Makeup Product Regarding Gluten

Does anyone use or used, Loreal True Match Natural (mineral foundation)? I have researched and do not think it contains gluten. Has anyone had any problems with it? Does anyone know for certain if it is gluten/wheat free? (Or if you have used loreal skin products in general)

I've only used a L'oreal moisturizer and didn't have any problems with it but have not used their makeup.

I've now switched to Garnier and like their moisturizer more than L'oreal.

Cosmetics and personal care products are the most difficult to check for gluten. The one thing that's really important to be gluten-free is lipstick and lip balm since they can be ingested.

Michelle L, I noticed that you recently joined so I'm assuming that you are new to this? If so, it can be very difficult to figure out if your cosmetics are gluten free or not. You may want to first look at the ingredients on the packaging and see if any wheat ingredients stand out. If they don't, try contacting the manufacturer.

I don't use any of the Loreal products so can't help out on that front.

I know that many people on this forum like the Everyday Minerals - do a search on here and you will see tons of messages. They are very reasonably priced. I use Bare Escentuals which is also gluten free for foundation and concealor. I use Lancome eye shadow, lipstick and mascara(definicils) which I have confirmed by calling them that they are gluten free. I also use Burts Bees lipshimmers, but understand they will no longer say their products are gluten-free so I will have to re-evaluate that.

Sorry I couldn't help on the Loreal, but hopefully someone else on here uses their products and can comment.

Only wondering because I noticed my face had gotten somewhat puffier/bloated over the past year...but i dont know if this has anything to do with makeup/skin care products or more because of the previous gluten foods I had been eating?

I would suspect, though I wouldn't say 100%, that any reaction you would have from foundation or face wash would be more along the lines of itchy skin or a rash. I switched my shampoo from one that had wheat in it because it was making my scalp itch. I think puffiness and bloating would generally be more due to toxins you've eaten (i.e. gluten).

Thank you all so much for the make-up discussion. I was wondering if anyone knew of safe gluten free chapstick, lip balm,etc.? I did contact a few companies, but it is difficult to wade through all the "25 $" words naming the ingredients.

I actually do use Loreal true match foundation and have had no issues. It really does not get near my mouth. I wash my hands well afterward.

Like other people said, watch the lip color/balm! I use Desert Essence Organics Lip Tints.

Okay, thats kind of what I was thinking too. Even though I am gluten/dairy free, my face puffiness isnt going away. I have a list of my allergies and so I more or less think I know what to stay away from....and drink a lot of water. So I dont know what could be causing it! Just trying to think of diff. things.

I wonder if the puffiness could be due to inflammation. If you are new to this, you could still have some inflammation in your body. Or, maybe an allergy to some of the ingredients in the products you are using? It is so hard to tell. I hope you find out what it is.

Okay, thats kind of what I was thinking too. Even though I am gluten/dairy free, my face puffiness isnt going away. I had/have some puffiness that isn't all fat.

About 2 months gluten-free my eyes started swelling from Devita skin care products that are labeled "gluten sensitive safe". They use regular oats and de-germed wheat germ oil. Was fine for years until 2 months gluten-free then whammy.

So, you never know....

Btw it wasn't just "puffy", it was obviously swollen. Different than it had ever looked.

I use MyChelle products and one Origins product that appears gluten-free. So far so good.

That is a valid question.  Unfortunately the short answer is slim to none.  Be proactive, when the diagnosis process is completed, start GFD.  Remember also that the western diet is deficient in many nutrients that governments require fortification.  Read the side of a breakfast cereal box. Anti-tTG antibodies has superseded older serological tests It has a strong sensitivity (99%) and specificity (>90%) for identifying celiac disease. A list of symptoms linked to Celiac is below.  No one seems to be tracking it, but I suspect that those with elevated ttg, but not diagnosed with Celiac Disease, are diagnosed with celiac disease many years later or just die, misdiagnosed.  Wheat has a very significant role in our economy and society.  And it is addictive.  Anti-tTG antibodies can be elevated without gluten intake in cases of other autoimmune diseases, certain infections, and inflammatory conditions like inflammatory bowel disease. Transient increases have been observed during infections such as Epstein-Barr virus.Some autoimmune disorders including hepatitis and biliary cirrhosis, gall bladder disease. Then, at 65 they are told you have Ciliac Disease. Milk protein has been connected to elevated levels.   Except for Ireland and New Zealand where almost all dairy cows are grass fed, commercial diaries feed cows TMR Total Mixed Rations which include hay, silage, grains and concentrate, protein supplements, vitamins and minerals, byproducts and feed additives. Up to 80% of their diet is food that cannot be eaten by humans. Byproducts of cotton seeds, citrus pulp, brewer’s grains (wheat and barley, rye, malt, candy waste, bakery waste. The wheat, barley and rye become molecules in the milk protein and can trigger tTg Iga in persons suseptible to Celiac. I can drink Grass fed milk, it tastes better, like the milk the milkman delivered in the 50's.  If I drink commercial or Organic milk at bedtime I wake with indigestion.

      I strongly recommend 2 dedicated gluten free (gluten-free) restaurants in my area (East Bay of San Francisco Bay Area) (2025) -- Life is Sweet Bakery and Café in Danville. I've been a few times with friends and tried multiple entrees and salads. All very good and worth having again. I've also tried a number of their bakery goods.       I'm 67 and have been celiac for 17yrs. I had cataract surgery and they put a gluten lens in my eye. Through a lot of research, I found out about MMA acrylic...it contains gluten. It took 6 months for me to find a DR that would remove it and replace it with a gluten-free lens . I have lost some vision in that eye because of it . I also go to a prosthodontist instead of a regular dentist because they are specialized. He has made me a night guard and a few retainers with no issues... where my regular dentist didn't care. I have really bad reactions to gluten and I'm extremely sensitive, even to CC. I have done so much research on gluten-free issues because of these Drs that just don't care. Gluten is in almost everything shampoo, lotion, food, spices, acrylic, medication even communion wafers! All of my Drs know and believe me I remind them often.... welcome to my world!

      If this applies geographically, in the U.K., physicians will often declare a diagnosis of celiac disease based on the TTG-IGA antibody blood test alone if the score is 10x normal or greater, which your score is. There is very little chance the endoscopy/biopsy will contradict the antibody blood test.
