In N Out Burger offers protein style burgers (wrapped in lettuce as a bun) AND I've spoken with my students who work there: if they even accidentally put bread on your burger they make your entire burger over for you without you having to say a word. They are super careful.

I had a shake there yesterday and it was great..

Aren't shakes usually OK as long as it's not a malt?

mmmm they have a neopolitan shake there (choc/straw/van mixed) it is out of this freakin' world!

My prob with In & Out is that they toast the buns on the grill next to the burgers. I went there ( not the one by me) totally excited to have a protein style burger and left because you can see everything where they are cooking and the grill was covered in buns. Its always so busy that I didn't feel like asking them to clean a part of the grill to cook my burger.

What is your experience with that aspect, because there is one walking distance to my house and it is sooooo yummy I would love to eat there.

My dad does some electrical work for In-N-Out, and he asked a guy if they can be absolutely sure that is gluten-free. He said to ask for the manager of the store, then ask him for a Gluten-Free Burger. He/she should know what that is. They will cook it on a totally separate, clean grill and someone with clean hands will make the protein-style burger! I haven't had ANY problems with In-in-Out since then! :D

Man that will make me so happy if I can work that out. Their food is soooo good, and I know their fries are ok, its just potatoes, and they don't do other fried food.

Yeah their shakes are awesome too. If I hadn't just had dinner, I'd be there right now.

Does anyone know if In N Out thousand island dressing is gluten free? I bought a burger there tonight and couldn't eat it because it had dressing on it.

I had already left the store and wasn't able to go back so I had to scrap the entire burger.

If anyone knows this, please let me know asap! I want to have In n Out again!!!

The Thousand Island Dressing is NOT gluten-free!! Well, at least they don't put it on it if you ask for a gluten-free burger... so it is safe to assume that it is NOT gluten-free.

I was still having problems with protein style burgers there but then found out I am sensitive to citric acid and the wash they use on the lettuce must contain it because I now order it "Flying Dutchman" with onion (Flying Dutchman is two patties with cheese between, that's it) and I haven't had a problem. I haven't asked about the lettuce wash there but just avoid it now. Since we usually get it to go and come back to work, I will toast some gluten-free bread (yep, in my own toaster at my desk - don't think I'm not the talk of the office!) and eat it just like everyone else. Mmmmmm!

I never liked their fries, honestly, which is good because I can't eat potatoes now (nightshade) and I don't eat refined sugar so I have never had the shakes. But they sound great!

Potatoes are part of the nightshade family, along with tomatoes and, I think, peppers, but I'm not sure about that one. Sometimes, if you're sensitive to one type of plant, you'll be sensitive to the whole family of plants. Nightshade's a tough one to work with, because those items are also pretty common (particularly that potato!).

(Ironically, tomatoes, as a part of the nightshade family to which the deadly belladona herb belongs, were also thought to be very poisonous because they were in the same family. So, for a long time, many parts of the world didn't eat them!)

I was reading the new SillyYaks Restaurant list and the dressing is gluten-free but there is a risk of cross contamination because they use a knife to spread it on the buns.

So protien style no dressing. Yummy.

My hubby just went to In N Out to get us lunch. No dressing this time! That's OK cus' I don't like dressing on burgers, anyway. I told him to ask for it gluten-free and to ask for it plain. I'll put my own ketchup/etc. on it at home.

Can't wait!

Thanks for the tip about the dressing. I figured it was not gluten-free! Glad I played it safe and didn't eat it!

      Im so frustrated and still getting the run around trying to reprove my celiac disease which my past primary ignored for 25 years.I understand that theres a ray of medical that doctors are limited too but not listening and telling the patient ( me) that im not as sensitive as I think and NOT celiac!Correction Mr white coat its not what I think but for cause and affect and past test that are not sticking in my medical records.I get sick violently with foods consumed, not eating the foods will show Im fabulous. After many blood draws and going through doctors I have the HLA- DQ2 positive which I read in a study that Iran conducted that the severity in celiac is in that gene.Im glutenfree and dealing with related issues which core issue of celiac isn't addressed. My skin, right eye, left leg diagestive issues affected. I have high blood pressure because im in pain.Im waisting my time on trying to reprove that Im celiac which is not a disease I want, but unfortunately have.It  has taken over my life personally and professionally. How do I stop getting medically gaslight and get the help needed to bounce back if I ever do bounce back to normal? I thought I was in good care with " celiac specialist " but in her eyes Im good.Im NOT.Sibo positive, IBS, Chronic Fatigue just to name a few and its all related to what I like to call a ghost disease ( celiac) since doctors don't seem to take it seriously.

      @Martha Mitchell, your reaction to the lens implant with gluten sounds like it could be an allergic reaction rather than a celiac reaction. It is possible for a celiac to be also allergic to gluten as it is a protein component in wheat, barley and rye.

      Scott I also have different symptoms than most people. It affects me bad. Stomach ache, headache, nauseous, heart racing, whole body shaking, can't walk then my throat starts to close. It attacks my nervous system. The only thing that saves me is a 1/2 of Xanax...it calms down my nervous system

      Scott Adams. I was dealing with a DR that didn't care about me being celiac. I repeatedly told him that I was celiac and is everything gluten-free. He put an acrylic lens from j&j. I called the company to ask about gluten and was told yes that the acrylic they use has gluten....then they back tracked immediately and stopped talking to me. The Dr didn't care that I was having issues. It took me 6 months and a lot of sickness to get it removed.... which can only happen within 6 months. The Dr that took it out said that it was fused and that's why I lost vision. If they would have removed it right away everything would be fine. He put in a silicone one that was gluten-free and I've had no issues at all in the other eye. Do not do acrylic!
