As of lately I have been getting horrible stomach aches and occasionally what feels like a band around by waist that just aches. When it's really bad my stomach will hurt then next day and then another day after. I also have a very odd sensation where I don't know whether or not I want to eat, throw-up, or run to the bathroom. In the couple days that I have stayed away from gluten my pain goes away almost completely. Today I ate a bite of bread and again am having stomach pains. Should I go in to get tested? Thanks!

Hi. Just a few pointers. Most people do a couple weeks at least of gluten free o give time to see if symptoms recur. After that time it may be recommended to reincorporate gluten to see its effect.. How long did you quit eating gluten?

So far I haven't eaten it for almost a week.

If you have been fine that long other then when you were exposed to gluten, i would definitely start eating it again and get back with the doctor to schedule testing. The less time you have been off, the less time you will have to eat it again before getting the blood test done.

I’ve used tinctures and made my own edibles with gluten-free ingredients to stay safe. Dispensary staff don’t always know about gluten, so I double-check labels or just make my own.

It's great to hear that there are some good doctors out there, and this is an example of why having a formal diagnosis can definitely be helpful.

Update: I have a wonderful new gastroenterologist. She wants to be sure there’s nothing more serious, like refractory celiac, going on. She ordered various tests including some micronutrient tests that no one has ever ordered before.  I’m deficient in folate and zinc and starting supplements for both. I’m so glad I decided to go to a new GI!

Autoimmune diseases tend to cluster. Many of them are found close together on the chromosomes.

Just giving another update... I was referred to rheumatology, and they suspect that I may also be dealing with fibromyalgia (it has not been formally diagnosed, but just suggested at this point).  So, I am continuing with the anti-inflammatory diet and vitamins and still working to keep getting rid of all these hidden gluten sources, but I also do have another possible explanation for some of the issues that I'm dealing with.
