Plastics Any Ideas

How on earth can I affordably obtain filtered water that has not been exposed to plastics. I have tried and tried and have not been successful finding anything at a practical price. I know I have got to get rid of this exposure because it makes my throat hurt and my lips and tongue burn like oats do (which I tested positive for an allergy to). I needs help figuring this out if anybody has ideas. If I don't figure something out soon I'm gonna end up living like a caveman or live in the woods where I can build my own distillment mechanism with a pot and some bamboo over fire or something. Lol I'm clueless. Appreciate any suggestions, although I don't know that anyone else on here has developed an allergy to plastics.

Something strange: the thinner the plastic, the worse it is like those plant recycled dasani bottles.. I now know why gum bothers me because it all has man made plastics in it! What! Come to think of it I need to check out xanthan gum as I use it frequently just to make sure it is all natural. Boy my body sure does not like fake lol. I can truly say I have an allergy to fake.

Get a Britta or a PUR water filter for your tap.

I've read that the PUR is better even than the really expensive water purifiers/filters!!

and certainly better than bottled water!

they sell refill cartridges and you don't have to haul water...and it isn't in contact with plastic.

Another option is to buy your own water distiller. We had a countertop one for about 10 years before it broke- was around $150 I think? Disttill your tap water.

But isn't PVC plastic? All of the pipes in our house are made of that. And they were to the main line as well until we had them replaced with copper.

Are there any natural springs near where you live? We have one here and it is always packed with people getting water. Now what you would put that water in to transport? I don't know. You can also buy some bottled water in glass bottles.

We used to have a natural spring just down the road but recently several tornadoes ripped through the area and I wouldn't begin to know whether it is contaminated or whether the property owners even still live there let alone whether they still offer buying from the spring.

I was concerned about the pipes in the house too I know they have plastic so I am pretty overwhelmed right now with gluten-free, DF, oat allergy, and corn allergy. But plastics is something I seriously don't know how to avoid. I mean I may even have problems with foods in plastics as well. I am so overwhelmed and anxious right now. I guess ima buy a distiller or one of those expensive filters. I guess I don't have a choice. Thanks guys for your input. I will try and find a spring nearby in the, meantime if they are not all dried up.

I think a number of the plastic water bottles now incorporate corn derivatives into the plastic don't they? Maybe that is your issue?

I buy still water in glass bottles - which is a total and utter pain, especially lugging them around from place to place, but I guess you never know what may help do you?!

It may otherwise be worth getting in touch with a few manufacturers and seeing what they use in the plastic, although generally the plastic is pretty bad for you in terms of thyroid functioning etc - hence my conclusion re water in glass bottles. Or soon I may start collecting rain water instead..!!!!!!!!!!

Razzle, could it be the corn you are reacting to? When you spoke about the thinner plastics being

worse I thought of corn right away. In an effort to rid plastics of BPA they have found a replacement that is made with corn. Those clear plastic water bottles are the worst offenders. I react badly to them. I can still drink out of the cloudy plastic that they use for gallon jugs or milk jugs.

I'm not doubting that you have a plastic allergy at all. After reading your post I looked it up and, wow, what a nightmare! There are some people so allergic to plastics they can't even use credit cards. I think that in today's world, those people would have to live in a bubble - a GLASS bubble.

When I read stuff like that I thank God all I have is celiac, corn intolerance, nightshade intolerance salicylate sensitivity, and asperin allergy!

Thats what i was thinking to. Not specifically corn but that it was an ingredient being used in some of the plastics! That makes a lot of senseb now. Today was my first day dairy and corn free (nothing with corn starch) and i finally had a day i did not bloat :D soooo excited! Although i am really gonna miss cheese (maybe hopefully not permanent) and miss my favorite corn tortilla soup but it is worth it for to be healthier and not in constant pain and misery.

I wondered why the foods that were exposed to plastic didnt bother me. I think you were right, the allergy test may have not detected some allergies. My allergist suspected that and wrote an order for some RAST tests but i didnt get them done because im kinda broke right now. You are a lifesaver thank you!

I react to things sporadically and one of those things is nylon. Happened to me as a child. I got a weird itchy rash on the bottom of my feet which the Dr. said was caused by the nylon in my socks. I had to stop wearing them and could only wear cotton socks. I was a dancer so I did have to wear tights. I found I could wear them for an hour or two but after that the rash came back.

This seemed to go away for awhile, only to come back as an adult. I began reacting to my earrings so I bought some that said they were hypoallergenic. I got the worse rash ever! Turns out they were made of nylon. At that time women still wore nylon hose when they wore dresses. I found I could only wear hose for an hour or two or I would get the rash.

Thankfully I don't have that problem now because I have to wear compression hose and they are made of nylon!

Yay! I kept having a problem trying to reply to your post idk why. You and bartfull I think are right. Thx you two have been a tremendous help. I think I will check up on certain plastics like the other water pitchers and sink filters. That may not pose a problem. I am sure my allergist can help verify. I was so close to the edge just a little while ago and now I feel much more confident I can do this. Can you not use stainless steel bottles?

This happened to me as well. What’s weirder is that within a couple hours of taking paxlovid it subsided. I thought maybe I got glutened but after reading your post not so sure.

Hi Tiffany. Thank you for writing your dituation and  circumstancesin such detail and so well writte, too. I particularly noticed what you wrote about brain for and feeling like your brain is swelling and I know from my own experiences that's how it feel and your brain really does swell and you get migraines.    Way back when I was in my 20s I read a book by 2 MD allergist and they described their patient who came in complaining that her brain, inside her cranium, was swelling  and it happened when she smelled a certain chemical she used in her home. She kept coming back and insisting her brain actually swelled in her head. The Drs couldn't explain this problem so they, with her permission, performed an operation where they made a small opening through her cranium, exposed her to the chemical then watched as she brain did swell into the opening. The DRs were amazed but then were able to advise her to avoid chemicals that made her brain swell. I remember that because I occasionally had brain fog then but it was not a serious problem. I also realized that I was becoming more sensitive to chemicals I used in my work in medical laboratories. By my mid forties the brain fog and chemicals forced me to leave my  profession and move to a rural area with little pollution. I did not have migraines. I was told a little later that I had a more porous blood brain barrier than other people. Chemicals in the air would go up into my sinused and leak through the blood brain barrier into my brain. We have 2 arteries  in our neck that carry blood with the nutrients and oxygen into the brain. To remove the fluids and used blood from the brain there are only capillaries and no large veins to carry it away so all those fluids ooze out much more slowly than they came in and since the small capillaries can't take care of extra fluid it results in swelling in the face, especially around the eyes. My blood flow into my brain is different from most other people as I have an arterial ischema, adefectiveartery on one side.   I have to go forward about 20 or more years when I learned that I had glaucoma, an eye problem that causes blindness and more years until I learned I had celiac disease.  The eye Dr described my glaucoma as a very slow loss of vision that I wouldn't  notice until had noticeable loss of sight.  I could have my eye pressure checked regularly or it would be best to have the cataracts removed from both eyes. I kept putting off the surgery then just overnight lost most of the vision in my left eye. I thought at the I had been exposed to some chemical and found out a little later the person who livedbehind me was using some chemicals to build kayaks in a shed behind my house. I did not realize the signifance  of this until I started having appointments with a Dr. in a new building. New buildings give me brain fog, loss of balance and other problems I know about this time I experienced visual disturbances very similar to those experienced by people with migraines. I looked further online and read that people with glaucoma can suffer rapid loss of sight if they have silent migraines (no headache). The remedy for migraines is to identify and avoid the triggers. I already know most of my triggers - aromatic chemicals, some cleaning materials, gasoline and exhaust and mold toxins. I am very careful about using cleaning agents using mostly borax and baking powder. Anything that has any fragrance or smell I avoid. There is one brand of dishwashing detergent that I can use and several brands of  scouring powder. I hope you find some of this helpful and useful. I have not seen any evidence that Celiac Disease is involved with migraines or glaucoma. Please come back if you have questions or if what I wrote doesn't make senseto you. We sometimes haveto learn by experience and finding out why we have some problems. Take care.       The report did not mention migraines.

Hi Jmartes71 That is so much like my story! You probably know where Laytonville is and that's where I was living just before my 60th birthday when the new Dr. suggested I could have Celiacs. I didn't go on a gluten challange diet before having the Celiac panel blood test drawn. The results came back as equivical as one antibody level was very high but another, tissue transaminasewas normal. Itdid show I was  allergic to cows milk and I think hot peppers. I immediately went gluten free but did not go in for an endoscopy. I found an online lab online that would do the test to show if I had a main celiac gene (enterolab.com). The report came back that I had inherited a main celiac gene, DQ8, from one parent and a D!6 from the other parent. That combination is knows to sym[tons of celiac worse than just inheriting one main celiac gene. With my version of celiac disease I was mostly constipated but after going gluten-free I would have diarrhea the few times I was glutened either by cross contamination or eating some food containing gluten. I have stayed gluten-free for almost 20 years now and knew within a few days that it was right for me although my recovery has been slow.   When I go to see a  medical provide and tell them I have celiacs they don't believe me. The same when I tell them that I carry a main celiac gene, the DQ8. It is only when I tell them that I get diarrhea after eating gluten that they realize that I might have celiac disease. Then they will order th Vitamin B12 and D3 that I need to monitor as my B12 levels can go down very fast if I'm not taking enough of it. Medical providers haven't been much help in my recovery. They are not well trained in this problem. I really hope this helps ypu. Take care.
