For the past yr, I have had tachycardia and heart palpations, ringing of the ears and panic attacks when this occurs, I have had my thyriod checked, saw a heart specialist and they have ruled this all out, I have always had gastric issues good majority of my adult life, nausea, bloating, diarrhea, constipation and chronic gastritist. My primary Dr. tested me for celiac and had a endoscopy and came back positve for it. It does explain all the gastric issues but still concerned about my other issues, they just cant figure it out and im wondering is anyone else experincing this? I am slowly tring to change my diet but its not easy. I have found when I do eat gluten filled products, Im up all night, having palpataions and feel like I have poison and toxins in my body I also constanly have my arm, legs or all over my body jerking right before i try to fall asleep. This is driving me crazy and In fear of my life. Its so discouraging that they cant figure out whats wrong and I fear its something pretty serious, I did have a head cat scan and it also came back normal! Thank god! But if anyone can give me some info or are experincing the same feedback would be so appriciated. I feel like Im going nuts!!!!!1 Help

OK

If you are going gluten free... It's all or nothing. "gluten lite' is a complete waste of time. imo

I did have some symptoms like that after taking an allergy medication just before a serious gall bladder attack. i have had my gall bladder removed for about 3 years and haven't had problems since.

Go back to a doctor and have your blood pressure checked, thyroid, and gall bladder.

Your doctor should be checking your Vitamin B levels--especially B12 and folic acid. Heart palpitations are very common with low Vitamin B12, and you can take Methyl B12 sublingually. It's an over-the-counter supplement, very inexpensive, and immediately effective. BTW, all of your vitamin and mineral levels should be checked.

Stop eating gluten... You've been diagnosed so that's not even a question mark for you.

With that said...

I have heart palpitations as well. I've been gluten-free since July 11 and already I see a huge improvement. I take atenolol for the palpitations (twice a day)... However, I've not really felt I need the dose at night. I will be checking with my doc at next visit to see if I can transition to just 1 dose in the morning. With the way I've been feeling, I'm quite hopeful that the palpitations will go away completely.

I see other symptoms improving, too. Feels so good to have real hope for the first time in years!

So...best advice... Do what your body needs...stop the gluten...

You need to be all the way gluten free. Even though it is hard, you must get rid of the gluten, because even traces can cause your symptoms to continue. Cross contamination is enough to keep people from healing. Once you are gluten free you should be feeling better. My heart palpitations stopped completely as well as migraine headaches. I think you are feeling like you have poison and toxins in your body after you eat gluten because that is exactly what gluten is to a Celiac...poison. Read labels on everything and eliminate gluten so you can feel better.

I should have added that magnesium levels are tied closely to heart health, too, and the American diet is low in magnesium. Celiacs tend to have very low levels at times....so you should DEFINITELY consider getting a magnesium supplement. If you're worried about how it might affect your stomach, two brands are easy on the digestive system: Bluebonnett's liquid magnesium and Nature's Way Magnesium Complex.

I have had Pre Atrial Contractions or PAC, and Panic Attacks for years. Please insist that they check all the Vitamin B levels; B1,B6 and B12. My husband had to insist they did this. My B levels were so low I had to have IV's and daily injections for a while. If they are low you should start feeling a big difference with treatments. You must be very diligent in your gluten free diet as even traces or small amounts can damage your small intestines. The sooner you control it with no exceptions, the better you will feel. My analogy for celiac disease is to do the diet. Would you stick your finger into an electric socket knowing you would be shocked. My panic attacks have abated or are almost gone; my atrial fibrillation had improved markedly. Remember there is no cheating

I had chest pains, dizziness, vertigo, migraines in addition to the gastro symptoms and they ask went away when I stopped eating gluten. it is hard to be gluten free at times, but it is so much easier than the stress I went through constantly thinking I was dying.

Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!

How do I contact someone at celiac.com concerning the cessation of my weekly e-newsletter? I had been receiving it regularly for years. When I tried to sign-up on the website, my email was not accepted. I tried again with a new email address and that was rejected as well. Thank you in advance!

Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?

I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
