right :(

i dont suffer with any gastro problems at all- pretty regular really. so ive tried to be gluten and dairy free, even making my own homemade soup. and this morning had my gluten free cornflakes with rice milk and a teaspoon of sugar with a cup of coffee. it got to about 10.30 at work and i felt the need to use the loo. thought id wait till break but no there was no waiting, and its a bit of a trek to the loos from the shop floor . had stomach pains and only just made it. had the biggest poo ever ( sorry for being graphic)

well, had a look( you have to dont you) and basically it was sausage shaped but kinda soft and fluffy and looked exactly like the soup id had for tea last night - carrot and sweetcorn with red lentils -blended til thick. it was lovely.! but i dont think my poo should have been a yellowy orange colour and look like the soup id eaten the night before!!!!! kinda put me off a bit lol.

is this normal, odd or what? or just coz im eating more veggies than usual!!

really hoping this isnt gonna become a regular occurance.

im a bit worried

If you said it was white or all water and burning upon expulsion.... or anything else, I'd say, maybe there's something going on.

But a formed stool and "passed" without any strain, pain or blood? Not anything I'd worry about.IMHO

Could very well be "colorful" because of the veggies.

You should see mine when I eat beets

The majority of people on this forum who are still dealing with symptoms would be thrilled to have a poo that was shaped like anything at all.

Just recall--we are not doctors and if you think something is amiss-you should really see a doctor.

jhol Enthusiast

thanks,

cant imagine what it would be like to have constant D or C. i know i sound like a bit of a wuss , it just coz i dont normally have any bowel problems. well i had the soup for tea again so we,ll see tomorrow if i have any problems lol. :D :D

The undigested food passing through is an indication that things are not digesting well in your gut. If I were you I would take a digestive enzyme with each meal to supplement what the pancreas is putting out, because that output might not be very much at the moment. Gluten has a very negative impact on the pancreas, and if the food is not digested and broken down it cannot be absorbed and your nutrition is passing right through you (although corn is very hard to digest at the best of times and if everything was blended it probably interfered with the digestion and absorption of everything else. I took (and still take occasionally) digestive enzymes for several years after I first went gluten free. I would recommend it if you are not already doing it; also, a good probiotic.

I started( Jan 27, 2013) a probiotic/dig.enz. program. Hope it helps with frequency of bowel movements as well as color, odor, and appearance of poo. Yes, a good turd is hard to find with celiac. I'm bothered with IBS/GERD issues since 2007.

In March, 2012, I started to slowly introduce more fresh fruits and veggies, nuts, and protein into my diet. For me, the urgent poo, jhol, posted are infrequent. When I eat spinach/kale my poo is greenish. When I eat dark chocolate (72%) it's black. Introduced a good weight loss program too. Lost 30 lbs.

I keep daily food/poo journals .Some statistics follows:

From 3/1 to 3/16/12; 34 poos between 6 am to 11am (1-3/day). Only 5 between noon and midnight(1-2/day). On 3/4, had 5 movements. A very annoying day.

From 4/18 to 5/3/12; 28 ditto . Only 3 ditto (1/day).

From 7/23 to 8/7/12; 28 ditto (1-2/day). But 12 ditto (1-3/day).

From 9/25 to 10/10/12; 31 ditto (1-3/day). But 17 ditto (1-2/day).

From 1/27 to 2/6/13; 15 ditto (1-2/day). But 10 ditto (1-2/day). To early to tell. ????

I believe 1-3 movements/day is considered normal. With my numbers, it's hard to get out of the house!!! Always need a rest room nearby.

To go back to 2007 and totally abstane from eating anything healthy would really annoy me. Will probiotics/dig enz help with frequency in the long term? I/we celiacs need to win a battle here.

crikey i dont poo that much lol :D

id say im more or less every day now but that could be because ive upped my veg and fruit. i was thinking about what happened the other day - i thought id been good with the gluten dairy free thing but remembered id eaten a cheese sandwich for lunch on monday that someone had made me and i didnt like to refuse . could it have been a gluten reaction that happened on the wed. i cant believe the diet could work so fast , my gerd has completely disappeared and my bloating has calmed down a bit as well . i,ll have to keep an eye on that now and be more vigilant about what im eating.

i had a bit of a meltdown the other day in the biscuit isle of the supermarket - going oh no lovely biscuits i,ll never be able to eat these again!! choccy ones , shortbread what will i do!!!!! etc I NEVER EVEN LIKED BISCUITS!!!and certainly never bought them  think im going mad lol..

mushroom Proficient

Repeat after me: I WILL NOT ACCEPT AND EAT FOOD JUST TO BE POLITE!!!! If someone had made you a cyanide sandwich would you have eaten it?? Of course not. And that cheese sandwich is the equivalent for your body. Do not keep doing this to yourself. It is not impolite to refuse to eat something that will make you sick. Tlhere are polite ways of refusing food. You can go from "No thank you" to No thank you, I can't eat that" to "I'm sorry that you made that just for me, but I really can't eat it or I shall be very sick." and anyway in between or in some other way, I don't care how you do it, but you DO refuse the food.

I'm not laughing.

IrishHeart Veteran

I'm not laughing.

I do not think jhol is laughing at you, Opa. I doubt she meant to be disrespectful. Please do not get upset.

Jhol, those of us who are celiacs and severe gluten intolerants do not eat any gluten. We cannot afford to poison ourselves.

We do not do the gluten free diet 90% of the time. We do not dabble in it, hon.

We do it to stay alive.

If you have celiac or gluten intolerance, you cannot ingest gluten just because someone offers you food.

jhol Enthusiast

i know,

soz if ive upset anyone - wasnt intended. i know ive got to get sorted with this. its because ive not got a diagnosis that im kinda saying to myself- do i really need to be doing this. and also coz i dont have the gastro problems as well. its only 2 weeks now so its early on my journey. hope i havent come across as flippant coz i really do think this is my problem and i know ive got to stick with it.

sorry opa3

and thanks everyone for replying.

At first I read this as you saying you were pooing 28 times a day. Now I realize you're doing some

weird math thing ( ) and I now see the 1-3 a day numbers. (Am I just math challenged?) I totally feel

you on how annoying it is to not be able to leave the house. At one point my problem was so bad

that if I wanted to leave the house I literally had to bring toilet paper and an emergency container,

because sometimes all you get is 20 seconds warning.

IrishHeart Veteran

and sometimes, we have had to do the unthinkable.

A trash bag inside a wastebasket ---because the loo was occupied and you cannot wait a single second more.

or go outside, way back in the woods. (good thing we own 7 acres)

I know where every bathroom is within a 180 mile radius of my home. Not kidding.

but I do not need to know that anymore.

As for whether 3 times is "normal" or not? Opa, there are many views on this,

but most GI docs will say "one good solid BM a day" is more the "norm".

.

Sorry. Not weird math  , just a weird presentation of the facts. Glade you figured it out. I give you an A+.

I think so, yes, IMHO. Dr. Guandalini (Celiac specialist and GI doc) and Dr. Lewey (GI doc) seem to think so as well. There's an article about probiotics and which ones are most useful in that book we talked about on the other thread? Real Life with celiac disease.

In any case, they certainly can't hurt! They're the "good guys". :)

Probiotics are HUGELY important for me, I'd be non-functional without them. I have also found

that when I started supplementing with (necessary) iron, it slowed things down some too.

I slowed down more when I went entirely grain free a few months ago, wasn't expecting that.

If I start to get too loosey-goosey I take a couple charcoal pills once a day for a few days and

that sets things right.

Some interesting articles regarding the use of Zinc Carnosine to help heal gastric ulcers, gastritis and intestinal permeability. I would consult a medical professional about it's use. https://www.nature.com/articles/ncpgasthep0778 https://www.rupahealth.com/post/clinical-applications-of-zinc-carnosine---evidence-review https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7146259/ https://www.fallbrookmedicalcenter.com/zinc-l-carnosine-benefits-dosage-and-safety/

He is. Which makes everything even more difficult. I’m not a believer in “staying for the kids” but I have nowhere to go and it’s not just me, it’s me plus my babies. We live in a beautiful place, lots of land in the country and me and the kids love the place we’ve called home for their entire lives. But Im seeing that he’ll never change, that my kids deserve a happy healthy Momma, and that staying in this as is will be the early death of me. Then I look at the scars covering my entire body…this disease and the chronic stress I’ve been enduring for years that tell me I’m no longer beautiful and no one will ever look at me with interest again. I try self care, try to give myself grace so I can just start loving myself enough to gain strength but the slightest sparkle in my eye and skip in my step attracts his wrath and it all comes crashing ten fold. Life is just absolutely railing me from every single direction leaving me wanting to wave that white flag bc I don’t feel like there’s much hope no matter what happens.

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with Celiac and dermatitis herpetiformis after years of suffering without answers. I lost my mind. I lost my job. I lost so much time. I lost Me. Conventional doctors are opulent come near me and the one who did sat across the room, misdiagnosed me, pumped me full of steroids which collapsed my entire hip for 6 months. So without answers I began my holistic journey. Fast forward a couple of years and still struggling with a mysterious whole body itchy, crawling “skin hell”, perfect teeth now deteriorating, thick hair now thinning rapidly and no more than a day or 2 at most relief….An acquaintance opened up a functional medicine practice. Cash only, I found a way. Within a month tests clearly showing my off the charts gluten allergy/sensitivity as well as the depletion of vital nutrients due to leaky gut and intestinal damage. dermatitis herpetiformis was more than likely what I was experiencing with my skin. I was happy. I thought this is easy, eat healthy Whole Foods, follow the diet restrictions and I finally get to heal and feel confident and like myself again very soon! 😔 Supplements are very pricey but I got them and began my healing. Which leads to the other major issue: not working, stay at home Mom of young kids, entirely financially dependent on my man of 7 plus years. He’s never been supportive of anything I’ve ever done or been thru. He controls everything. I’m not given much money ever at a time and when he does leave money it’s only enough to possibly get gas. His excuse is that I’ll spend it on other things. So my “allowance” is inconsistent and has conditions. He withholds money from me as punishment for anything he wants. Since being diagnosed, he’s gained a new control tactic to use as punishment. He now is in control of when I get to eat. He asked for proof of my diagnosis and diet bc he said I made it up just to be able to eat expensive organic foods. Then after I sent him my file from my doctor he then said she wasn’t a real doctor. 😡. I go days upon days starving, sometimes breaking down and eating things I shouldn’t bc I’m so sick then I pay horribly while he gets annoyed and angry bc I’m not keeping up with all the duties I’m supposed to be doing. His abuse turns full on when I’m down and it’s in these desperate times when I need his support and care the most that I’m punished with silence, being starved, ignored, belittled. He will create more of a mess just bc I’m unable to get up and clean so that when I am better, I’m so overwhelmed with chores to catch up that the stress causes me to go right back into a flare from hell and the cycle repeats. I’m punished for being sick. I’m belittled for starving and asking for healthy clean water. I’m purposely left out of his life. He won’t even tell me he’s going to the grocery or to get dinner bc he doesn’t want me to ask him for anything. I have no one. I have nothing. Im not better. My supplements ran out and I desperately need Vitamin D3 and a methylated B complex at the very minimal just to function….he stares at me blankly…no, a slight smirk, no words. He’s happiest when im miserable and I am miserable.  this is so long and im condensing as much as I can but this situation is so complicated and disgusting. And it’s currently my life. The “IT” girl, the healthy, beautiful, perfect skin, perfect teeth, thick and curly locks for days, creative and talented IT girl….now I won’t even leave this house bc Im ashamed of what this has dont to my body, my skin. Im disgusted. The stress is keeping me from healing and I think he knows that and that’s why he continues to keep me in that state. He doesn’t want me confident or successful. He doesn’t want me healed and healthy bc then how would he put the blame of all his problems on me? This journey has been hell and I’ve been in Hell before. I’ve been killed by an ex, I’ve been raped, robbed, held hostage, abused beyond nightmares but the cruelty I’ve experienced from him bc of this disease is the coldest I’ve ever experienced. I’ve wanted to give up. Starving and in tears, desperate…I found a local food pantry in our small town so I reached out just saying I had Celiac and was on hard times. This woman is blessing me daily with prepared gluten free meals, donations, educational info, people who know this disease and how they manage life and the blessings just keep coming. But it’s overwhelming and I feel like I don’t deserve it at all. He just glared and I know he’s going to sabotage it somehow. I don’t even know what to do anymore. I’m so broken and just want peace and healing.

@Colleen H   I am just curious,  when you were tested for coeliac disease, did the doctors find out if you had any deficiencies? Sometimes muscle pain can be caused by certain deficiencies, for example, magnesium, vitamin D, calcium, and potassium.   Might be worth looking into having some more tests.  Pins and needles can be neuropathy, again caused by deficiencies, such as iron and B12,  which can be reversed if these deficiencies are addressed. In the UK where I live we are usually only tested for iron, B12 and vitamin D deficiencies at diagnosis.   I was very iron anemic and supplementation made a big difference.  B12 was low normal, but in other countries the UK's low normal would be considered a deficiency.  My vitamin D was low normal, and I've been supplementing ever since (when I remember to take it!) My pins and needles definitely started to improve when my known deficiencies were addressed.  My nutritionist also gave me a broad spectrum supplement which really helped, because I suspect I wasn't just deficient in what I mention above but in many other vitamins and minerals.  But a word of warning, don't take iron unless blood tests reveal you actually need it, and if you are taking it your levels must be regularly monitored because too much can make you ill.  (And if you are currently taking iron, that might actually be making your stomach sore - it did mine, so my GP changed my iron supplementation to a gentler form, ferrous gluconate). Lastly, have you been trying to take anything to lessen the pain in your gut?  I get a sore stomach periodically, usually when I've had too much rich food, or when I have had to take an aspirin or certain antibiotics, or after glutening.  When this happens, I take for just a few days a small daily dose of OTC omeprazole.  I also follow a reflux or gastritis diet. There are lots online but the common denominators to these diets is you need to cut out caffeine, alcohol, rich, spicy, acidic food etc and eat small regularly spaced meals.   When I get a sore stomach, I also find it helpful to drink lots of water.  I also find hot water with a few slices of ginger very soothing to sip, or camomile tea.  A wedge pillow at night is good for reflux. Also,  best not to eat a meal 2-3 hours before going to bed. If the stomach pain is getting worse, though, it would be wise to see the doctor again. I hope some of this helps. Cristiana
