  1. Apologies if this is known information, but I jut got off the phone with Hall's Cough Drops and was told that their entire line is gluten-free! In my starter kit it said only Sugar-Free varieties, which I asked the woman about, and she said that used to be the case, but in the last few months they have made ALL Halls items gluten-free. So lozenge away!
  2. I had them both done in on sitting too, and the prep is absolutely the worst of it. Make sure you start early in the day! I was told to begin drinking the mixture of evil around 5pm for a 10am procedure the next morning and was up half the night running to the bathroom. The only thing I can recommend for the prep is get a couple of different mixers. I had...
  3. Ha, jk, I know your pain well. I am also a New Yorker and have experienced many of those late night evenings when I'm dying for a snack and just can't have one. There's something so integral to the New York culture of drinking late, then eating something awful at 3 am, and we can't. It stinks. And then you'll tell someone you're hungry, they'll ask why you...
  4. Sounds familiar. I passed every test with flying colors - biopsy, blood panel, the only shibang. No celiac, no crohn's, no uc, no nothing. Basically, I was in perfect health - except for the being sick all the time. My GI gave me the "i guess it's IBS" too. I had been having success with the gluten free diet, and met with a different doctor who gave me great...
  5. I think my most vivid experience with the fog was when playing trivial pursuit with friends. For some reason I could handle the questions fine, but when I tried to roll the dice and move my piece I just couldn't do it correctly. I would move 5 spaces confidently, then realize it was only 4. I'd try it again, and screw it up again. It was like I couldn't get...
  6. i too have tried them both and they're both excellent. The prairie bread, as mentioned, has sunflower seeds and a bunch of other earthy things, so it has a nuttier taste and a nice crunch. The most simple flavor though is the sandwhich bread. Oh, and fyi, I'd consider freezing a portion. I find mine usually spoils (even in the fridge) before I get to the...
  7. I'm surprised he was so discouraging even with some positive bloods. I had negative blood work and negative biopsies, but have responded extremely well to the diet. I have been told with certainty that I don't have the disease, and received a somewhat perfunctory "maybe it's ibs". I just saw a new doctor yesterday and he said "forgot the other doctors, do...
  8. Just to clarify, I agree that a crummy GI is not really worth the trouble. But if you work hard to find a good one you'll get something out of it. Celiac presents with symptoms similar to several other diseases/issues (part of the reason why it's so hard to diagnose conventionally), and it's really important to rule all those out. Even with positive blood...
  9. yes, you should. It's important to make certain the problem is "just" Celiac and not anything on top of that. Endoscopy/Colonoscopy/Blood tests & a GI can help you with that. If you're not getting the info you want after that, then perhaps consider Enterolab. Enterolab has great word of mouth on this site, but I don't think they should be used as a substitute...
  10. yep, had the exact same experience. i was really excited to discover 'em, tried them out right away, and felt the familiar brain fog and threw them out immediately. Can't say for certain that they're trouble, but didn't react well personally. In fact, I've had problems with Mi-Del's chocolate chip pecan cookies too. Bummer, because they taste really good...
  11. I have an appointment with Susie Lee on Monday. She also has a practice in Fort Washington which might be easier to get into, and I know she accepts a lot more types of insurance than Dr. Green. Having already seen a few reported experts that were anything but, I'm very hopeful. I'll let you know how it goes.
  12. My parents are both eucharistic ministers and they have a celiac parishoner. She has her own special host that the church orders and is kept in a special box. So in my experience you can request one that is gluten-free. But I could be wrong. And, not to get too theological, but it's all about symbolism anyway. I'm sure the big G is cool with you doing your...
  13. I had mine a couple weeks ago, and pain and gas are definitely standard. Unfortunately, of course. I found though that the gas calmed down after 24-48 hours, but the soreness lasts about 7 days. Definitely don't be shy about the tylenol for a couple days, especially if they took biopsies. I had that "beat up" feeling too, and it was the only thing that let...
  14. I did have blood test, it was negative too. Going on the diet anyway makes some sense, but i'm not sure i have the patience/fortitude to stick something out for three years without concrete results or evidence that it's the right thing to do. You know? Enterolab makes a lot of sense. I'll ask my GI what she thinks. Oh, and thanks for the shoutout 'Runner...
  15. Wholefoods has a pretty good sandwhich bread which is great for sandwiches or just toast in the morning. You don't even need to keep it frozen, which is handy. But the best bread and rolls I've had are from Gillian's (gilliansfoods.com). Great sandwich bread, dinner rolls that are buttery and amazing, even pretty solid brownies. They'll ship direct too.....
  16. Hey all, new to posting, but have been reading the site for a few months. Let me start off by saying thanks to all you who have indirectly been giving me a lot of great advice on how to feel better. This board is really amazing. But, that's not why I called.... here's the rundown. I'm in my late 20's, and in early March began experiencing serious gastro...
