  1. Taz, Similar "Mom" issues. I think my mother, who baked all our bread and was a "health food nut" in the seventies, just can't accept that "good" food could make you ill. Also, anyone, (like my mother), who has not lived a life in combat with food and their intestines seems to have a hard time putting themselves in another's shoes! It is HUGELY frustrating...
  2. Paati, Thank you! I figured it was a personal message, but, what a dummy I am, eh? Thank you; I will "PM" her now! Thanks for your well wishes. lisa
  3. Lorka, I'm so computer illiterate I don't even know what a "PM" is! But I would love to have that list. Maybe when my daughter gets up she can explain it to me. Thank you! lisa Just had a horrible night-throat in a vice grip and chest hacking and now conjunctivitus as well! I took the first dose an hour ago.
  4. Yes, read it in high school, 400 million years ago. Between the mice and the dolphins and many other contenders, indeed. lisa
  5. Maybe it would be helpful for everyone to realize doctors are not Gods. I grew up understanding this implicitly with parents who questioned everyone and everything and cetainly never expected doctors to know all. All disciplines need a healthy respect for what is not known, maybe cannot be known. As an actor, a dancer and a human being I respect the fact...
  6. Carla, I have always known soy bothers my intestinal tract. Just can't seem to digest it- bloating, gas, crampy pain. Don't know what "brain fog" is, although this last awful year before figuring this out I thought I couldn't remember things because of being pre-menopausal, but now I wonder.Feel better. lisa
  7. Yes, that's what stinks and why gluten-sensitive people can seem obssessive about gluten! It can be awhile before your body returns to "normal?" Feel better soon. lisa
  8. Luckily, the woman at the Lancome counter was a celiac sufferer. (It's everywhere!) I trusted that and it seems to be okay-if pricey! (I actually researched it first) lisa
  9. Thank you all very much! I hate to take antibiotics anyway- don't like taking any prescription drugs- but this chest infection is quite nasty. Good health to all. lisa
  10. Excellent point. I've always thought of the Internet as a completely public space. My kids were annoyed for years because I would not get a computer, then would not get on the internet. (We don't have television either) It's good to be reminded. lisa
  11. Before I was gluten-free and quite sick, one of the multitudinous symptoms I had was an almost constant case of reddened eyes. I looked like I was high all the time. My mascara had gluten- I'm pretty sure it helped to switch as I don't seem to have that too much anymore. Good luck! lisa
  12. Thank you. lisa The pharmacist said the ings. were okay, but perhaps I should ask for the list 'cause that's what I'm worried about- things he may not know contain gluten. Thanks again. lisa
  13. I have been prescribed antibiotics for a possible strep throat. Specifically Zithromax. Does anyone know if this is gluten-free and if not what antibiotics might be gluten-free? Thanks. lisa
  14. Lancome Defencils IS gluten-free. I use it-no problems. lisa
  15. I've always been in the low range. If I got sick, I inevitably pass out. Not fun. I read an article by a gastroenterologist- can't remember where, that links low blood pressure with celiac. A low platelet count is another fun by-product. When pregnant I was always considered "high-risk" because my platelet count would bottom out. Saw 5 jillion specialists...
  16. Dawn Thank you about the auditory processing thing. I would like to see if we could get Luke off gluten but he can be very stubborn about this. I love your resourcefulness. I work as well with autistic teens and those with Asperger's and am aware of the food connection. His problems are pretty much entirely school-related. He is also quite gifted as...
  17. Since you mentioned looking for a good book, I can't help but recommend Michael Pollan's "The Omnivore's Dilemma" which I'm in the middle of right now. Just a an unflinching look at what has happened in this country with our "disconnect" from nature in terms of the "food" we grow and everything else! It is, at times, painful to read, even though I've been...
  18. I, too, would find out exactly which genes they tested for. I have two DQ1 genes (gluten intolerance) and definitely feel better without it. (gluten) I was very sick, but had a negative biopsy. You are smart to arm yourself with more info. You might want to keep a food log with symptoms on it as you reintroduce wheat, if you do. That might help you...
  19. I just looked at this post and am truly sorry for your situation- can't imagine it, really- too painful. I do have to say, working with abused kids every day for years and their extremely dysfunctional families (like most families, I guess, only pathologically so), I guess New York must be trigger-happy or something, because getting DHS to remove a child...
  20. I am just reading all the family issues and, I must say, it can be frustrating! I have a Mom who's a wonderful French and Greek cook, believes in grains and is difficult to convince how sick I've been. Like Carla, my kids and Michael know firsthand what's been going on and they are unbelievably supportive. They don't like to see me in pain. Every single...
  21. Leah, Cool crystals; I remember that-maybe I'll make myself some. Thanks everyone regarding honey and lemon-the preferred treatment of my French and Greek family. Unfortunately, I can't tolerate honey anymore (a lot of fructose in honey, I think) and right now citrus doesn't feel so good either! Gggrrrr... I'll make some simple syrup. Thank you all for...
  22. I would agree- sometimes it's a few days later, so HARD to pinpoint offending thing! Good luck! lisa
  23. Thank you, Molly and Kate and Jen and all! Molly, yes, I have the peppermints (very tiny); I didn't know of their other things so I'm going to try some- thank you! Kate, I'm starting to wonder if this is strep myself although I've never had it, only my son. I now have lost my voice as well. Hoping you're feeling better. And,Jen, thank you for the Thayer...
  24. Would you know if these are also free of High fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, dairy and soy? Yikes! That's a lot! lisa
