  1. I would love to talk to your friend. I've gotten some information off the internet, but it sounds like it's still so new that a lot isn't known about it. Some of the stuff I read sounds like it's not that big of a deal and then other things make it sound extremely serious and scary. I just want to be as knowledgeable as possible so I know what questions...
  2. Our son just turned 2 a few weeks ago. We had our first visit with our pediatric GI dr. 2 days ago. By the way, we waited a long time to see her as she came highly recommeded and is very knowledgeable of celiac disease. We have not tried the gluten-free diet as we are still waiting on the endoscopy, which won't be until the end of November now. She...
  3. We are going the biopsy route and need to keep him on gluten for that. I would rather know for sure now (assuming it comes back positive), than to change his diet forever and never really be sure. It's one thing to be allergic to foods....it's another to have celiac disease. If I know for sure, there would be no question that we would stay gluten-free...
  4. Did you have any hives or rash where you were itching? Did they tell you if you were allergic to anything that they found on the skin test? And if so, did they mention how allergic you were? Two of our kids recently had skin testing done and the third will be getting hers tomorrow. Our youngest had moderate to moderate-high allergies to every food...
  5. I can't afford Enterolab yet or I would do it. I cut the apple juice out and the diahrrea stopped almost immediately. It's been 3 days w/o pooping though, so I'm afraid we're in for some painful ones coming up soon again. He eats all regular foods (gluten included until after our GI appt(s)). Right now the doctors (pediatrician and allergy/asthma...
  6. So exciting! I have to tell you that I'm an advocate now of seeing an allergy doctor, so I was excited when you said you were referred to one. Our pediatrician is the first person to mention celiac to us and referred us to an allergy/asthma doctor. The allergy/asthma doctor is the first person who was aggressive in figuring out what was going on with...
  7. I can barely sew a button on, so I'm going to have to pass on making my own, but I agree that shortalls are so cute on little kids. I'm going to have to stick to this and the occasional pair of shorts or pants that have a small enough waistband. HOpefully, this will change soon. I got so excited yesterday when the dr's office called to confirm our appt...
  8. Ursula, Thanks so much for your quick reply! Absolutely, we will be going gluten-free no matter what they tell us. I will definitely be talking to a nutritionist and the doctors for help. His blood work also showed him being allergic to all nuts, milk, and eggs. I'm not sure what else I should have him tested for, but everything on the first panel...
  9. My 10 year old just starting getting hives about 2 months ago and has had them almost every day since. He had never had them prior to this. He usually gets anywhere from 2-10 at a time. They last 4-5 days, go away, and then a day or two later, they show up somewhere else. He's had them on his legs, back and eyelids, but nowhere else. I took him to an...
  10. I have a just turned 2 year old who will be seeing the GI for the first time next week. He has the exact symptoms you described for your child. His IgG number was the only elevated one though, at 29, so I'm interested to see what happens with your results. When my older son had an IV at 4 1/2, it took 2 nurses and me to hold him down while they put...
  11. We're still waiting on our 2 year old son's GI appointment (next week, finally...4 1/2 months after making the appt.!) , so he is not gluten-free yet. (Bood test has 1 of 3 panels positive) He had severe diahrrea when solids were first being introduced for several weeks, but has been very constipated ever since...crying "poop, poop, poop" every time right...
  12. Hi Wonkabar, I have felt the same way when I've posted things, too, and yes, it's frustrating when you're looking for answers. Keep in mind that your post and replies (even if there aren't many) are helping other people. There are many times I read, but don't respond because I don't know the answers, but I check back often to see if someone else does...
  13. My little guy doesn't each much either. I always carry something in my purse for him so I can sneak in any small amount of calories any where I can....a snack while he's in the stroller, at the park, wherever. I also share a bite of anything I'm eating as sometimes he's more interested in mine, (probably just because it's not his.) Maybe these aren't...
  14. Don't feel bad about leaving the room. My son screamed around the clock and never slept more than an hour at a time (if we were lucky)...it was basically catnaps 24/7. I used to put him in his crib/bassinet/playpen and go to my room, shut the door, and take 10 really deep breaths, then go back to face him again, try to calm him for a few minutes or as long...
  15. I'm not an expert on this, but I have heard over and over again on this site that you need to have quite a bit of gluten every day for quite some time in order for blood tests or biopsies to show celiac disease. If you eliminate it, the tests will come back negative and you will never know. If changes from the diet are good enough for you, than that's fine...
  16. Hi bugsmom, My son's blood results were almost identical to yours (IgG 29), the others negative (he did have the ttg test run though). We can't even get into our GI doctor until middle of October and we booked the appt in June. I'm following this thread to see what you find out as I have been very curious as to what the numbers mean as well and why wouldn...
  17. I'm so sorry. About a week or two ago, my son had blood drawn for numerous tests. We got the results back on everything except for his mono test. I called my doctor's office to find out the results and they told me they didn't have anything and then asked me if I was sure I had the blood drawn there...I was not too happy about this mostly because it was...
  18. DO YOU NEED SOMETHING TO MOTIVATE YOU AND INSPIRE YOU? GOOGLE "CAN WORLD'S STRONGEST DAD" AND CLICK ON THE FIRST ONE YOU SEE. THERE IS A STORY AND VIDEOCLIP THAT WILL GIVE YOU GOOSEBUMPS AND MAYBE A FEW TEARS. IT IS PROBABLY THE BEST STORY I'VE EVER HEARD....TRULY AMAZING...WHAT A DAD WILL DO FOR HIS CHILD AND VISA VERSA. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED! ...
  19. I think we probably just have to avoid being in situations like this as much as possible, and when in them, try to ignore the stuff you don't need to see or hear. If possible, maybe bring her own food. One day down the road, when there's a lot more public awareness about celiac, these people will feel badly for the way they acted. Who knows, maybe one...
  20. I had the same thoughts about Enterolab...seems like everyone's diagnosed and nobody comes back negative. My husband made a good point....The majority of people going to Enterolab already suspect they have some sort of intolerance and/or celiac, so the chances that these people would be diagnosed would be a lot higher than just random testing. I'm going...
  21. A couple tips that helped me.... Keep a health journal and plan ahead. If you can plan a week at a time, that's best. Write down what you'll eat and when as well as what exercise you'll do and when. You can get all your groceries for the week, do all your chopping, etc. to have things ready for the whole week. We would even grill up a week's worth...
  22. Thanks so much for the info! The numbers are always so confusing it seems.
  23. I don't have a copy, but will try to get it as soon as possible. The doctor was very non-chalant when he told me, so you think it would just be a little low, but who knows with everything else the doctors say. As much as I don't like to hear that, part of me is glad because it explains everything. My daughter has not been the same since her mono...
  24. So, if you have the gene, it just takes gluten adn a trigger, right? I would think almost everyone would end up with celiac who has the gene, wouldn't they? Or is it possible that a stressful event in someone's life might not trigger it for one person when it would for another?
