  1. ROFLOL!!!! In a sense, I'm sure this is NOT a funny problem, but oh my! Your post sure hit my silly-button!
  2. I finally decided that I needed to go gluten-free for a while to see if I felt any different. My symptoms have never been that bad--mostly some cramping and loose stools since the birth of my daughter, four years ago. So, I went gluten-free and was really religious about it. After three weeks, I went to visit my mom, and she had made several bread-y dishes...
  3. That feeling of not being able to catch your breath is something I've felt off and on all of my life. I thought it was normal to feel that way sometimes, so I was surprised when last year at age 39, I was diagnosed with asthma!
  4. I don't think that's fraud at all--my pharmacist told me to do it to my son's pills so I could save money!!
  5. So is this same restriction given to pilots? I figured it was just for passengers. As for the pilot getting on the wrong runway comment--he had just started flying for the day! I think that's a little...silly to suggest that the reason for the crash may have been a lack of contact lens solution, don't you?
  6. this is wrong on several levels. first, that is harrassment or something--i mean, i would think that chick could get into legal trouble over a prank like that. and if you ended up needing a sick day due to illness, your company loses money. second, i'm not sure what kind of facility you work in, but that is just not something you teach kids. it sounds...
  7. Another thumbs up for the Zoji! I have an older one that I have owned for many years. I have never used it for gluten-free flour, but I used it with wheat flour, when I had ground my own wheat berries. Its motor is amazing and can handle really thick, dense flour without even straining at all. It is a GREAT bread machine!!!
  8. My son is great! Very healthy as far as we can tell. And quite outgoing and friendly, I might add. That's him in our itty-bitty family picture on the side--in the center, lying down. We aren't aware of any food issues, but we do (finally) have an appointment with a dermatologist in October. I am a little suspicious of DH.
  9. Hi, I can't really answer your question, because I'm still in the exploration stage myself, but I wanted to say hi as another mom to a son with Down syndrome! My son is almost 16. I noticed the link for a Lowcountry Down syndrome association--are you near Hilton Head/Savannah? We lived in Savannah for several years when my son was younger, and my mom...
  10. I got an email from Scott at Gluten Free advertising finger-prick blood tests that you can receive by mail from Optimum Health Resource Laboratories. One of them claims to test IgA/IgG/IgM Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG). Is that all that needs to be tested? Does anyone know if this test is legit? If so, why haven't I seen it mentioned before??
  11. I generally cook with coconut oil--it is supposed to be very healthy! If you do a google search, you'll come up with a zillion hits about it.
  12. Here's a good vegan/gluten-free recipe: Mixed Veggie Thai Curry Firm tofu, sliced into cubes Button mushrooms, sliced Tomatoes, sliced Cucumber, sliced Broccoli Peppers, sliced Cabbage, sliced Thai curry green paste Coconut milk (150 ml) Chilis, sliced Garlic, sliced Onion, sliced Soy sauce 1 Tbsp brown sugar Olive oil Rice Boil...
  13. Good timing! I just got an email with this link: Open Original Shared Link
  14. Oh YEA!!! The black bean was my favorite!!!
  15. The breathlessness could also be asthma. I was just diagnosed with asthma last year, although I've had some of the symptoms for a long time, and now I'm questioning whether I have gluten problems. I have read that celiac can trigger asthma.
  16. THANK YOU! That's exactly what I was searching for!! And DARNIT--I thought I was being so smart buying spelt flour--I just began some sourdough starter with it. Arrgh!
  17. Is there a place where I can get a list of all of the unsafe ingredients that might be in a food? I have been reading labels at the grocery store, but then I get confused and can't remember if certain things I see are gluten-free or not.
  18. We actually do live in Alabama, and we like Auburn, but those are Clemson shirts--LOL! My in-laws live in Clemson and got the whole family together and bought shirts for all 25 of us--we did a huge family pic, and then more pictures of each famly group!
  19. Actually, the reason for the gallbladder removal, according to what we've been told is this. He and his identical triplet brothers have a rare blood disorder--hemalytic anemia caused by a pyruvate kinase deficiency. His hematologist always suspected that removing the spleen would help with this. And then he had a car wreck in high school and ruptured his...
  20. My DH had his gall bladder removed in 1984, due to gall stones. (His spleen was removed about a year before.) I met him in 1985, and he has always had some weird symptoms, which I assumed were related to the lack of a gall bladder. Sorry if this is TMI, but here goes. He has always had explosive BMs that look like diarrhea. When he has to go, he has...
  21. Actually, if you are talking about kids, ask ANY kid about quality of life and he will say, "being near Mommy." Ask a teenager or a young adult with Down syndrome, and you will get a variety of answers, but "being near Mommy" is not likely to be one of them. They might learn slower than the general population, but they are not permanent children. I know...
  22. I thought Enterolab could NOT tell you whether you have celiac. Their test only shows gluten sensitivity or gluten intlerance, right?
  23. Oh my goodness...are you kidding me??? I've not been diagnosed w/ celiac, but have a few very mild symptoms. I never have quite convinced myself to be tested, although my daughter was tested by Enterolab and came back as gluten sensitive. Anyway, I've had those bumps along the back of my hairline for YEARS. I just thought it was from sweating or something...
  24. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama. My daughter's was covered, but I was not reimbursed the full cost. Enterolab was considered out of network, so first they took off the $200 deductable. Then they paid 50% of all other "customary" charges--meaning they considered some of the costs to be too high. Basically, they paid about $60 for her. I have...
  25. As a mom to a son with Down syndrome, I was especially interested in this article. All I can say is "WHAT A MAROON!!!!" to quote Bugs Bunny. Sheesh--like the only reason to test for celiac is to decrease the risk of cancer? And quality of life is determined by the ability to continue to eat gluten?? I hope nobody who has a child with Down syndrome pays...
