  1. This probably isn't going to be very helpful, but I went pet food shopping last night seeking gluten free cat food. I have found no totally gluten free catfood, but I did find one that had oats as the grain. It looks very good for cats, because it also has things like dried cranberries, probiotics, and all of that. I can't understand why I can find gluten...
  2. I just bought some totally grain free dog food last night. The brand I bought is Innova, and it costs around 2.00 per pound. Very expensive! But I dont' want to see them get health problems, and I don't like inhaling the dust from the bags of food. Most dog and cat foods are loaded with gluten. Knowing what gluten does to me, that just makes me cringe...
  3. You really have to stay on your toes with this. I usually stand in the store reading labels for quite a while, but then read the labels again at home before eating anything. I keep a list of safe ingredients and forbidden ingredients on the fridge with magnets so I can easily double check anything doubtful in the kitchen. Even as careful as I feel I am...

    ARCHIVED A-m-e-...?

This is the type of thing that made me give up on doctors a long time ago. It's funny, but really scary, too.
  5. I knew things were "different" after two careful weeks of totally gluten free...but I wasn't actually "better," if that makes any sense. My "intestinal" activity was behaving differently, different patterns, but I was messed up pretty bad. After 3 months, I started having good days that felt like a normal person, but not every day was good, some were as...
  6. But I used to buy really expensive gluten-free pastas. I did like some of the brown rice ones, but most were kind of yuckie and just way too expensive. Since about last March, I've been going to a good-sized international market and buying rice or tapioca noodles of all types, mostly imported from Asian countries. I was a little worried about whether...
  7. I like the Tapioca Loaf...I think it's Ener-G brand, but I really can't remember for sure...it's the only tapioca loaf I've ever seen. Kind of expensive, but I grill it on top of the stove and make grilled cheese (I use fake, casein-free cheese), peanut butter/jelly, all kinds of sandwiches (after grilling the slices first), and even French toast. We've...
  8. It seems to usually take a couple of weeks for me to get back on track. Each mistake makes me that more careful for next time!
  9. I'm afraid of oats. In my very short (8 month) gluten free experience to date, eating a tortilla made with organic oats and oat fiber made me really sick. To me, it's not worth the risk. That's just my experience. I don't want to rock the boat, so I stay away from oats.
  10. Hello! I've read everyone's thoughts and experience on this and would like to add that it seems to take a long time to see hints of improvement, then you might feel worse again, or worse in different ways and get very discouraged before you start seeing REAL improvement. For me it was a wild roller coaster ride. It sounds like you're pretty careful about...
  11. Yes, I was ALWAYS starving to death! I ate much more than my husband could ever attempt to...he always thought I was such a pig! But I would stuff myself silly and then turn around and start looking for something else to eat just a few minutes later. Now, my in 8th month gluten free, and just finally starting to see consistent results within the past...
  12. You're all very kind! I wanted to say that Urusula, your posts have been especially informative. I'm sorry things are going so slowly for you and you've had so many difficulties, and hope things just get better and better for you. One of the most helpful insights for me was to see that gluten reactions might not be too immediate. I discovered in my...
  13. Hello! I just wanted to tell you all that I discovered this message board a while back and have found it immensely helpful to me. I am a mid-fifties female. Beginning around 15 years ago, I felt my health was taking a downward spiral, read about gluten and thought maybe it fit my situation. I went off of gluten for a while, got no better, and decided...
