  1. Since you're under a doctor's care and following his instructions, it might be a good idea to mention to him you are wondering if the initial dietary change that seemed to instigate all of this might have triggered a gluten intolerance or some other intolerance. Maybe he will give you a blood test for celiac and then you could go on from there. If it...
  2. What is irritable bowel syndrome? Something irritates your bowel...could be gluten...I had similar symptoms and went gluten free to see on my own (was already dairy-free, by the way), and kind of went back and forth between symptoms and not knowing for a few months. Finally, right about at the beginnning of my 7th month gluten free, I was amazed at how...
  3. any chance you could contact local news stations and get them to ask whomever got the kitten to contact you?
  4. I'm so sorry. It's a very sad thing we when lose our little furry companions.
  5. Well, if I was up on my tetanus shot, and the kitten APPEARED healthy...and someone caught the kitten...I would just want to know the whereabouts of the kitten. Ask whoever has it to keep you informed for the next two weeks, and if the kitten shows no signs of rabies, very rare, especially in a small animal such as a kitten, who would've had to have been...
  6. spanish rice??? add rice to the browned ground beef, plus chopped or canned tomatoes, diced carrots, onions, cumin, coriander, garlic, hot sauce or salsa... or if you have rice flour on hand you could make pupusas...make a filling kind of like meatloaf, except add some cumin or hot sauce to make it spicier. use about 2 cups rice flour with a tablespoon...
  7. some of them have terrible manners. I don't blame you for leaving him!
  8. Ugh. Sorry to hear this happened. I have found that if I take Digestive Advantage for IBS when I feel gluten symptoms, it alleviates them. I take this only for about one week and then I get back to normal on my own from there. You can buy that stuff at places like Walgreens or order through Amazon. It might not help everybody, I'm not even sure...
  9. This isn't easy. I feel for you. You need to get control of your lives again. I don't know how he'd feel about being checked out by that Enterolab everybody here talks about. But it sounds like it's something you can do from home, noninvasive, and could maybe hold some answers, either to SHOW him it IS gluten, or to reveal any other hidden problems....
  10. Since going gluten free, I shop for flours (rice, gram--not graham, but gram, which is chickpea flour), huge bags of rice of all types, rice noodles of all types, potato starch, tapioca noodles and starch...these things are REALLY cheap if you buy them in the ASian markets and avoid the health food stores for flour, noodles, etc. Thanks for posting this!...
  11. At 2 1/2 months gluten free I had horrible gas too. It's been my last symptom to go away. Now, at just about 9 months (this 8th month has seemed like forever, for some reason--but I'm feeling better all the time), my lingering symptom seems to be gas, but much less than what I was having. I haven't been able to relate it to what I eat; there might be...
  12. I'm sorry for your pain, Noel. Doctors seem to be of no help in these things and much suffering comes because of their inadequacy, many times. I've read of a curious link between nicotine and ulcerative colitis. Some people with ulcerative colitis get sick of the awful, often ineffective drugs, and use either a nicotine patch, or real tobacco in the...
  13. Does anyone know about Dr. Fine's general dietary recommendations, other than gluten free?
  14. I gave up gluten in February, and these "cleansing sessions," different than regular diarrhea, happened to me about 3 times during the spring. I always noticed a feeling of relief, and big general improvement after each time. Weird, but it did feel like some cleansing thing or something. I've been doing really well in the past month and a half, and haven...
  15. I've never had any luck making noodles, but if you go to an Asian store you can find all sorts of noodles...all shapes and sizes, made from rice, cornstarch, or tapioca (read labels...they have some wheat noodles too). This probably wouldn't be exactly what your family is missing, but Asian noodles are cheap enough to experiment with, and maybe you could...
  16. Oh my lord, that scared me to death!!!! I sent it to a bunch of other people, though...he he heh.
  17. Thank you for sharing all of that. I'm glad you finally found the answer. I am self-diagnosed too, and I don't really want any doctor's diagnosis or assessment of the situation. I'm feeling better and better all the time, now, almost 9 whole months totally gluten free. It's a sorry state the way doctors can't seem to do anything but steer people in the...
  18. Wonder if it would be a good idea to just buy coffee beans, rinse them off and grind them as necessary???? Maybe I sound really paranoid...maybe I just AM, but the longer I go at this, the better I feel, and I'm not into tempting fate with any possible down days...I like feeling GOOD.
  19. Most coffees don't bother me (drink it black), but everytime I've tried those Folger's flavored coffee grounds in the plastic tub I have something that seems like a mild gluten reaction within a couple of days. Since I'm new at gluten free, I'm not absolutely certain it is the folgers, but it's seemed like it enough I gave my folger's chocolate and French...
  20. I've tried vegan raw on and off a few times. I like the idea in theory...it makes sense to me for lots of reasons (so many food intolerances/allergens, etc. are automatically eliminated) and also matches up with the diets of what probably might be our nearest cousins, the bonbos and other apes. We are probably more similar to their anatomy and physiology...
  21. LOL...oh boy, and we think nobody knows much about this TODAY!!!! Pathetic!
  22. Thanks for bringing this up. I miss chewing gum too...I assumed it was all kind of starched up in something glutinous, since you can see something powdery on most chewing gum. I've avoided it all since February, and I was just wondering last night if there were any safe chewing gums! I want some...gonna go buy some today!!!!
  23. I LOVE these pretzels! I don't buy them often because of the expense. Even my gluten-eating friends always grab some out of my bag. I think they are worth buying, but I do wish they were cheaper so I could have them more often.
  24. Does the package list ingredients in the glue?
  25. Thank you all for making me laugh so hard about something I used to sit and cry about! AmandaD, I think my hubby's poop is celiac too, but he doesn't want to hear about it, LOL! Oh well, he must not be feeling as bad as I was before, I guess. To me, going gluten free is so much easier than putting up with all of this sh*t everybody's talking about here...
