  1. I replied and lost it somehow, so here we go again! Tom's of Maine toothpaste...there are others gluten free, but I appreciate their upfrontness about gluten on their website, and feel safe using their toothpaste. Johnson's Baby Shampoo...I found it listed as safe on some celiac list somewhere on the web. (sorry, I can't remember where)\ I bought...
  2. A plea for socks with sandals... I'm just about to turn 54, female...work out hard and have good abs, good quads/calves, good biceps/triceps...etc. etc. etc. I LOVE socks with Earth Shoe sandals. They keep my feet from getting dusty outside, and keep my toes warm when I'm inside air-conditioned buildings (stores or work...I personally do not like...
  3. I was already dairy free when I went gluten free. But going gluten free even apart from any possible dairy issues was a LOT of ups and downs for me, for many months. By one full year, things were pretty much settled down, although still improving pretty steadily. That's when it started getting all kind of messed up again, and I had an idea maybe it was...
  4. Hello. I've been gluten free for 15 months now, and am now almost 54 years old. I "suspected" I might have a gluten problem back 7 years ago, attempted gluten free (now I understand all of my many errors), didn't see any difference, and gradually added back the grains, first oats, then kamut, spelt, and finally wheat. During the next several years, my...
  5. I thought that I'd read that maltodextrin in foods was made from corn (in the U.S.) unless otherwise stated, but that that rule did not apply to vitamins or medicines, and that maltodextrin used in those things might come from any source and not give the information on the label.
  6. I think it's true women are physiologically more susceptible to autoimmune disorders than men, because of hormonal fluctuations, etc. But I also wonder if men just eat less gluten than women...at least it seems to me most men would rather have meats, etc., and women would be more inclined to have something with pasta, or desserts like pies, pastries, where...
  7. I got the same reply from Oil of Olay. I would love to use the stuff...but won't. I'm comfortable only with stuff I can get a gluten-free guarantee from...some brands of lotions and soaps found in health food stores state it on the label. I appreciate when they do that, and they get my business because of that reassurance. Most stuff on my outsides...
  8. Fiddle Faddle...my thoughts, exactly. It's so unfortunate that we can't really rely on doctors. I gave up on them years ago, after discovering that just about everything they ever diagnosed in me was incorrect, and just about every med or treatment they did to me backfired and caused me even more health problems. It's pretty crazy, but I feel the...
  9. I agree that most medical research is done by those with the money to do it...pharmaceutical industry...and most medical research is thus done with the ultimate idea of managing conditions with more new, advanced high-class drugs. Most textbooks in medical schools are published through the pharmaceutical industry, and even the "Bible" of diagnostics, the...
  10. Hathor, You are fairly newly gluten-free, right? With me, sometimes higher fiber, coarse foods made me slightly ill in the beginning, but no longer do now. I don't know if that's what's going on with you...maybe it is cross-contamination if it indicates the possibility on the bag of wheat. We know each other from the McDougall Board...but I feel...
  11. Well it's interesting, and probably informative...but, I feel somewhat irritated at the tone of the article in general. Being undiagnosed, mostly because I have no faith in doctors and am accustomed to dealing with problems on my own, I am quite sure by this time that I do have celiac disease, but have no "doctor proof" on paper. It's kind of embarrassing...
  12. Here's a link to the Tom's website. This is so comforting to me, I just won't use any other toothpaste! Open Original Shared Link
  13. I've had the same questions about toothpaste. Finally, I got onto Tom's of Maine "natural" toothpaste website and saw that almost all of their products were gluten free, so we began to buy the ONLY Tom's toothpaste sold in our regular grocery store. Before that, I was so confused I was just brushing my teeth with baking soda. I'd like to see a safe...
  14. When I started suspecting gluten might be a problem for me, I bought organic whole wheat, sprouted it myself, and ate that either whole or ground up into cookies or dehydrated crackers. Made me SICKER than ever!!!! Also, I'd read the same thing about allowing natural fermentation, sourdoughing wheat, that it eats up the gluten. I made sourdoughed breads...
  15. I tried to reply twice above, but could only manage to quote the oriiginal poster...so, I'll try ONE MORE TIME...(this is getting on my nerves now) I've been buying rice noodle products from China and other Asian countries, rice from Asian countries, and rice flour from India. I've done this only because it was cheaper to go into a local international...
  16. If you feel uncertain, it's probably better safe than sorry. Here is the link that I am going by in considering the FROZEN vanilla Rice Dream ice cream substitute to be gluten free: Open Original Shared Link I hope that's correct info. I don't eat it very often, but hasn't seemed to bother me when I do eat that stuff.
  17. Rice Dream milk substitute was a surprise to me! Fortunately, their frozen vanilla "ice cream" substitute is okay, though.
  18. It might take some time. You might want to seek out grief support groups either in your area or online somewhere. Try to remember the good times and help other family members, but also, what you have been through and are going through isn't easy and obviously can't go away very quickly. Find yourself some support or just someplace where people will let...
  19. vegans and celiacs probably would all be better off to supplement with b12. You can just buy any cheap, generic b12 tablets, making sure they are gluten free (and vegan too!). Even if they aren't made to be chewed, it's best to chew them up anyway, because they are difficult to absorb when swallowed whole. B12 is nothing to mess around with: by the...
  20. I don't get on this board much anymore, because, thank God, I am self-diagnosed and very well these days, all because of this board only! But I do look it over very quickly a few times per week. I would like to say a prayer of THANKS, because of the help I got here, sometimes lurking silenty, and a few times asking questions. I am so happy to be...
  21. Here's a list I found a while back. I've been chewing Big Red with no problems for the past few months. U.S. Wrigley Products - Per company representative, the following is a list of U.S. Wrigley products that remain free of any wheat, oat, rye or barley gluten: Wrigley's Spearmint gum Freedentgum Doublemint gum Extra gum Big Red gum...
  22. I didn't start feeling any lump in my throat until a little while after starting gluten free. It seemed to come and go, like it would be there for a few days, and then gone for a few days. Finally, after several months of gluten free, I haven't had that annoying feeling for a while. It felt like there would be a kink in my esophagus sometimes.
