  1. Most chefs are a lot more aware now than they were a few years ago. Down to Earth Health Food store has a greta buffet although not all gluten-free they do have a lot of gluten-free goods. For restaurants, just call the chef first. 12th Ave Grill -- Chef Kevin Haney Town - Chef Ed Kenny are two places I go when there and they wil make sure...
  2. I wouldnt say any of them serve strictly gluten free meals but they care careful when I ask. Hotel restaurants like the Four Seasons and Fairmont are extremely careful. i feel safer there than at the health food store where some of the kids think spelt is gluten free.-- yeah I have to yell at folks sometimes but they are getting it -- sloooowly! A lot of...
  3. Buttermilk in Hawaii is bulked up with wheat. Found out after getting sick for 3 days.
  4. Open Original Shared Link shows a picture of one of the common japan export types of potato starch
  5. FInd an Oriental market. In Japanese a very good potato starch is called katakuriko. clear plastic bag about 3 x 7 inches showing the white powder inside. # big blue Japanese characters on the fruit. Works way better than any corn starch.
  6. I had a fried who was the chef at the Four Seasons in Costa Rice, Jim Cassidy. Almost all of these types of 5 star resort chains worldwide are aware of requirements for celiacs. Some have vegan and raw food menus now too. A recent report I read said 12% of the guests have some special dietary requirement now. Gets easier and easier to travel! I would look...

  11. Something you're eating may be killing you, and you probably don't even know it! If you eat cheeseburgers or French fries all the time or drink six sodas a day, you likely know you are shortening your life. But eating a nice dark, crunchy slice of whole wheat bread--how could that be bad for you? Well, bread contains Open Original Shared Link, a protein...

    ARCHIVED Acqua Pazza

Ate at acqua pazza today in Rancho Mirage (Palm Springs) Ca. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Linkmenu_glutenfree.htm great gluten-free menu. Really loved the quinoa stuffed in the acorn squash.
  14. Wheat starch was used to make particle boards and pressed lumber. The key word being was. I dont know if it still is. They never affected me unless I had to cut them. If its simply used someplace its not a problem
  15. Besides the B12, my Kaiser Doc suggested alpha liphoic acid capsules which really have helped a lot. Make sure you have your blood sugar checked too.
  16. I find its really up to the Chef no matter what the chain is. The more expensive the chain like Four Seasons, Fairmont, Taj, the more aware they are. Here in HAwaii the Fairmont as a "allergy" menu with gluten-free foods, Vegan, raw and a few other highly specialized items. The Four Seasons here will do anything needed. Hiltons usually have a pantry...

would be nice if they changed it but in May it said wheat.
  19. I've seen it list wheat on the side of the box-- I don't have it here for obvious reasons but it has said that as recently as last May when I showed the box at the store to another celiac. S&B "Oriental" mustard and curry powder is fine. The curry mix is not. ken
  20. Received this from Howie who has this restaurant near the airport in Kona! Great place too! Lotus Caf
  21. How about fruit and beans -- like hummus with lime or lemon juice-- Avocado is a fruit too so you could make your own designer version of guacamole. we add tree tomato or tamarillo to it - Thats another type of fruit. If you can get fresh guava where you are, guava pulp with a touch of gluten-free bbq sauce is a great dip too. what kind of fruit can you...

    ARCHIVED Hawaii

Just let me know when your coming and I'll make sure its all gluten-free! Our culinary school is really good now too. I give a food allergy lecture to each class and they have to ask all the guests they serve each week so both students and guests are becoming more aware.
