ARCHIVED Oh, My Dog, These gluten-free Products Are Expensive!

At least we can deduct the cost to gluten-free foods from income tax -- actually the difference between gluten-free and regular foods. So the ramen that you mentioned for 25 cents a pack vrs the 6.00 noodles we can deduct 5.75== I'm not a tax person but give all my receipts to the accountant. Your right it should be much less though. -
Thanks again -- I didnt search that much just because of lack of time but I will -- just glancing now shows a number of references. I use dogpile at times although there ads get a little invasive at times. I research a lot of horticultural issues in different languages so I'm always on some search engines.. thanks again

Thanks mushroom. doc said the SD was caused by low nutrient levels and will run some tests. The low levels I suspect are from the celiac. take care

Thanks much-- guess I should get my zinc levels checked. I keep hearing that its caused by low levels of various things but nothing concrete ever seems to come across. thanks again.

Good to hear about your BG too. After the clinic in Santa Rosa things really turned around for me. Still on a highly restrictive diet but cant complain since my heart is working right. I'm usually around a few days every day -- just been busy writing for work. Been stuffing myself with mizuna which the stores always have at new years. Love the stuff... -

Went to see the doc today because of a rash starting on my face that is not DH. He said it was seborrheic dermatitis a form of dandruff and gave me some OTC suggestions for scrubs and shampoos. He then started to get into possible causes which no one is really sure of, It is thought to be caused by malnutrition and current studies suggest lack of Vitamin...

ARCHIVED Experts discuss ways to tackle celiac - Indian Express
kenlove replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
Thanks for posting this Scott. It's much the same way it was in Japan 5+ years ago. Last year in rural South India for 3 months, I was surprised at how many knew about celiac --a greater percentage than here in Hawaii! -

ARCHIVED Realization About My Celiac
kenlove replied to Lindsay630's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My wife does not eat gluten free but she does not make anything with flour in the house ( she goes to her friends if she wants to make something with flour) and we have many separate utensils and pans. As a former chef, I dont want anyone using a lot of my kitchen tools anyway. She has started to used gluten-free flours for somethings and if she does... -
glad it all went well and you could even go to Sam Choys. Have known Sam for 30 years. and although his restaurant is in Honolulu, he lives a few miles from me in Kona. Nice to hear a good report about Hawaii!

its much better and chefs, especially on the Big Island, are much more aware. IN part, because I got celiac 6 years ago and work with all the chefs. On Oahu the new whole foods has a large gluten-free section and all the groceries now have some. the other health food stores like Down to Earth have much better selections than a few years ago. If you tell...

It does take time and there are a number of other factors including sugar levels. I used to get up every hour on the hour and they told me it was normal. I didnt want more drugs. Cutting back on the carbs made all the difference. good luck Ken

Grasshoppers, called Inago in Japanese are an essential part of the fall special meals -- Kaiseki ryori. As a kid in Chicago you could buy chocolate covered ants and grasshoppers at Marshall Fields, now Macys. Got them for my sister once -- back in the 50s-- I wonder if thats why she doesnt talk to me so much -

ARCHIVED Industry Warned Over Nutritional Content

I have never had any problem with buckwheat when I know its 100% buckwheat --- I just dont trust most of it from North America and tend to buy mine in Japan where I can watch it milled in small AG coop places that only do buckwheat (Soba) I've also had Bobs now that he has a gluten-free facility and the bags are marked gluten-free. I NEVER buy stuff... -

I've been pretty much everywhere as either a photo journalist and then as a researcher on tropical fruit. Outside of here in Hawaii India would be my first choice in the tropics and Japan would be 1st choice for anywhere else followed by Germany. I would do it at the Taj West End in Bangalore. Having traveled the globe for 30 years that is my favorite hotel (outside of the Big Island that is) There are a number of other Taj places that are really nice too but the staff at the West End is fantastic. The staff is excellent at gluten Free preparation and made me anything to order. The only other... -

It really depends on where the restaurant is and the level of quality. In the early 80's I wrote a guide book for visiting Japanese business men in the US listing 1588 Japanese restaurants. Went to over 300 of them. At that time only a handful had fresh or nama wasabi. Now there may be more. You can always ask to see the tube or can they used because of...
