ARCHIVED "you Might Be A Celiac If....."
angel42 replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Ok, one more, on a different note: You must be Celiac if....... you've gone home hungry from Thanksgiving dinner at a friend's house. (true story ) -
I am sure there are several places in the country where tap water is better. I live about 30 minutes east of Manhattan where, I assure you, the tap water is not better.
-
I will definitely try that. Was it glass bottles that had been filled with other things or did you buy special bottles?
-
I tried bottled Poland Spring water last night with the same effect. When you say "fresh" what do you mean? AFAIK I cannot tolerate any bottled water. I guess it could be the plastic but I am now drinking bottled orange juice in a plastic bottle. It's probably not that big a deal but I have noticed when I got to people houses all they seem to have is water...

ARCHIVED Carabbas.. Outback And Bonefish Grill?
angel42 replied to zachsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I have never been to Carraba's. I got very sick at the Outback but I think I am in the minority. The server and the manager seemed extremely attentive to my Celiac. I did get the Ceasar salad and I am guessing some crumbs got in my salad accidentally. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Shampoo, Conditioner, And Body Products
angel42 replied to angel42's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Now the you mention it, my hair does shed alot and my scalp is always extremely dry. Someone mentioned bumble and bumble being gluten free. I might switch over to that one and see if I notice a difference. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Shampoo, Conditioner, And Body Products
angel42 replied to angel42's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just looked up my shampoo and conditioner online. I think the conditioner is ok. Can you get sick from gluten in shampoo? Shampoo 8 oz: Water (Aqua), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Cocobetaine, Cocamide MEA, Polyglyceryl-3 Laurate, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Decyl Glucosamide, Sodium Lauroyl Oat Amino Acids, Olive Oil... -

angel42 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, People keep mentioning gluten in their shampoos etc. How can people tell? When I look at my shampoo and body products it just looks like a list of chemicals. What should I be looking for? Can anyone help? Thanks!!!!!!!! -
ARCHIVED What Products Have You Pitched -after Gluten Free?
angel42 replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
How can you tell if your shampoo/conditioner/body wash/body lotion has gluten in it? I have checked the ingredients on all and nothing says wheat or oatmeal or any other grain. It just looks like a long list of chemicals. -
ARCHIVED I Feel Great!
angel42 replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This could have been me posting this thread. I was diagnosed about 3 months ago and while I am thrilled not to be constantly sick I find myself starving all the time. I actually eat almost exclusively protein since I know it will not make me sick. This is all pretty new to me. -
Hi, I have been looking through gluten-free cookbooks and find myself a bit overwhelmed. I was looking at one today that for every recipe seemed to require three different types of flour in different combinations (one part this, two parts that etc) I confess I am no Julia Child. I just want a baking cookbook with simple recipes that will taste...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Teriyaki Sauce
angel42 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, I have found gluten-free soy sauce but not gluten-free teriyaki sauce. I get very sick from take out chinese food even if I just get steamed chicken/shrimp so I thought I would try and buy some shrimp and make it myself. Does anyone cook asian food at home? Is there a gluten-free teriyaki sauce that people like? Thanks!! -
Hi, I know it sounds silly since what on earth in water can make you sick. However, every time I have bottled water I get incredibly sick almost immediately. I used to drink it constantly but now I can't drink it at all. I would ask a gastroenterologist about it but I think it would just be a waste of time since the dr would probably have the same...

Hi, I am really trying to help out my mother in law and find a gluten-free cornbread recipe for Christmas. I got super-sick after Thanksgiving at her place so she is now going out of her way to make sure it does not happen again. Does anyone have a quick and easy cornbread recipe that they like? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

The owner of a gluten-free restaurant said that Seagrams ginger ale was not gluten-free. Something about the natural coloring? -

ARCHIVED Coca-cola (caffeine Free)
angel42 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, I'm sure someone has asked this as some point but I couldn't find it. I drink caffeine free coke and it never occurred to me that it could have gluten until someone told me that seagrams ginger ale(of which I have a case in my apt) is not gluten-free. Is caffeine free coke safe? Does anyone know? How about sprite? Is there a list somewhere? ... -
I vote for Charles. It is actually one of the names that I want but I can't seem to get my husband on board. Tyler is a very nice name as well but speaking as someone who has had 9 friends give birth this year alone, and 8 more who are currently pregnant (no I am not exaggerating, it's genuinely bizarre) I can tell you that Tyler is going to be a very common...

I was a little hesitant about eating here after I had read mixed reviews on the boards. I went there with my husband last night and it was fantastic. Not only was the food terrific but it was the first time in as long as I can remember that I did not get sick from eating out while still being able to have a normal meal (I went to the Legal Seafood near my...

ARCHIVED Pamelas Chocolate Chip Cookies
angel42 replied to elaine33's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
It's so funny you posted this. We have a pot luck at work and I brought these cookies in today. I make them differently. I use an 8 x 8 pan and bake them almost like brownies at 350 degrees for 20 min. This is the same way I used to make regular cookies before I was diagnosed. I had such a hard time telling when the cookies were ready the conventional way... -
Hi, This time of year there are so many holiday parties. My husband just took me to his firm's holiday party and I was afraid to take food since I didn't know what was in anything. I went to a holiday party last night and just stuck to cheese and olives because I was afraid to eat anything else. I feel like I have developed a sort of food aversion...

ARCHIVED Got Sick From Outback gluten-free Menu
angel42 replied to angel42's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I really appreciate everyone's feedback. People keep mentioning tickets. What are these tickets? Noone gave me a ticket or put anything special on my table. It was a shame I got so sick cuz the food was actually really good. I had a holiday party last night and was still too sick to eat anything. To make it worse the party was out of state and was a two hour... -
I went to the outback last night and order a cesar salad, the alice springs chicken and the chocolate thunder. I have been sick since last night but I have no idea why. I was very careful to explain my celiac and they seemed really nice about it. Has this happened to anyone else?

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Restaurants In Nyc?
angel42 replied to angel42's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
My husband loves the outback but we haven't been since I was diagnosed around 2 months ago. What is on the gluten free menu? -
I did go to Dos Caminos. The food was great. I had seafood ceviche and tuna crusted with avocado and iced cream for dessert. The waitress was extremely understanding and friendly and I had no problem at all. Sorry for the late reply, I was away this weekend and had jury duty all day.
