ARCHIVED People With Clinical Depression And Anxiety
allison replied to Mtndog's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey Just wanted to double back and report that I have been trying the St. John's wort and it has been helping. I'm not sure if it will be enough in the long run but right now I'm taking only 600 mg. a day and my doc wants me to go up to much more than that. (To 900 in 3 doses and eventually to 1800 in three doses). This coming from an psychiatrist ... -
I started a new job a few months ago, and I spoke to the person who arranges such things before we started so that she (the organizer) was the only one that knew and she arranged for there to be options (we went to a place where there were options and even the waiters knew but didn't say anything). I'm sure not every situation would work so well, but if...

ARCHIVED People With Clinical Depression And Anxiety
allison replied to Mtndog's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm curious if anyone has taken St. John's Wort for depression? I used to take Lexapro and tolerated it well, stopped, and when i went back couldn't take it. -
Sophiekins, I have heard of the buddhist walking meditation--but don't know too much about it. Any recommended resources? I have not been good about eliminating other possible offenders from my diet, so I will try some of those too. Thanks! Allison

Citrucel is gluten free.... -
it's funny, meditation is hard because everyone/everything seems to conspire to intrude upon it. but the whole point is to let those intrusions happen and then bring your mind back to your breath. very haaaard. i've done it before at yoga retreats in rooms of a lot of people and found it even more difficult because it seems as if every person in that room...

ARCHIVED Anyone In The New York Metro Area?
allison replied to Sirevan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I know this post is old, but anyone in NY City?? -
Hi everyone, A little backgroud: I have been gluten-free for a year now, and my tummy and fatigue problems are doing better but I've had a whole load of new things come up recently. Really ad GERD, dizziness (recently diagnosed as vertigo, not sure if they are right), TMJ, tremors in my legs, and general shakiness. Emotionally this is throwing me...

Hi, People say sometimes to "PM" them to speak personally (is this "personal message"?) How do you do this, or is there another way? People don't seem to post email addresses on the site if someone else wants to contac... Thanks! Allison

ARCHIVED The Emotional Side Of This
allison replied to Anonymousgurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey--forgot to mention that I'm 22 and I had this all through college! So I feel you big time!!! Especially because young people (our friends) who are so excited to have lots of energy and fun at this point in their lives have a hard time believing and understanding how we feel. You have to drill it into them.... -
ARCHIVED The Emotional Side Of This
allison replied to Anonymousgurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am also going through this right now--you are not alone! I am a little scared to go back to my everyday life--it often seems like it is all or nothing to me b/c if people see you doing some things, they assume you are ALL BETTER! and can do all things....not true! I think baby steps is right--otherwise you risk setting yourself back. I am trying to make... -
I have low blood pressure and was told to eat a high salt diet-- I found canned soups/powdered soups (like Cup O'Soup) to be very helpful. Campbells is chock full of salt.

Just wanted to put my two sense in...I'm 22 y.old and i feel like my life has just stopped. My mom basically can't do anything either because I've been staying with her instead of in my own apartment and she's taking care of me. I feel awful for her! It's so wonderful of her to do this for me! Anyway, I think the worst part of this is going to doctors...

ARCHIVED Very Shakey, Almost Low Blood Sugar Feeling...
allison replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This has been driving me crazy recently. I don't think it's from glutening though. I don't know what it is and neither do any of my doctors. For those who mentioned Lexapro, btw, I know it makes me really dizzy--enough so that I can hardly move. I used to take it and tolerate it well, but was off it for a few months, and now am going back and can't get... -
ARCHIVED Feelings In Stomach Area
allison replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I often get that too! I don't know if I can positively associate it with being glutened, but what you describe is EXACTLY what I feel--like someone just came over and KICKED ME IN THE STOMACH! -

I discovered the other day that the "wheat free toaster waffles" are made on equipment that processes wheat...I have been eating them for a long time and I don't think they bother me. Watch out, if you are that sensitive! -
ARCHIVED Help Against The Gerd! (reflux)
allison replied to allison's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I haven't tried it myself, but others say that the natural remedies have been very helpful for them, and may allow you to stop using the medicine at some point. Apple cide vinegar and baking soda come to mind, but you'll have to do some more research on that. Allison -
ARCHIVED Help Against The Gerd! (reflux)
allison replied to allison's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi guys, hope you had a good thanksgiving! I think celiac and GERD is very much related. That's what I've read...This doesn't explain why it's so bad now for me, because I've been off gluten for a long time (unless I'm accidentally CCing). Anyway, I've been having horrible diarrhea every morning for a few weeks, and I'm starting to wonder if it is related... -
Mine was similar to the mono thing, but I never actually had mono. Everyone in my college dormitory got sick with a stomach virus; I woke up one day and thought I had it too because I went to the bathroom and fainted. (They all thought I was drunk--I WISHHH!!! I was drunk!) Anyway, after that the exhaustion, nausea, and relentless dizziness very near...

ARCHIVED Help Against The Gerd! (reflux)

Thanks guys! I am definitely going to try the apple cider vinegar fix... I have a doc who told me to try taking little bits of mylanta every hour, and I think that is also helping. I am already avoiding the chocolate, alcohol, caffeine, tomatoes and citrus. Definitely a good idea, but not helping me at all--since it's worse than ever and I haven't had... -
Please guys, it's so bad! I went to the ER last night b/c my chest hurt so bad--and it was the GERD again. (Apparently both acid from my stomach and bile from my small intestine). I'm on prevacid--it's OK. But what do you take over the counter for immediate relief? (Opinions on the best ones are welcome!) And I know there are all these foods that...

Hi-- My endoscopy yesterday revealed that I had a whole bunch of bile in my tummy. My poking around on the web indicates that it could be more GERD, except coming from lower down. I'm getting a gastic emptying scan and a upper GI/small bowel xray to see what the heck is going on. But has anyone else experienced this? I'm wondering if it...

ARCHIVED Carrying On With Your Daily Life When You Feel Like Poo!
allison replied to allison's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I like the half-hour at a time rule. That seems a little more manageble. How do people at work take it when you often have to leave early? I find that one of the problems is that people have no understanding of how disgusting I feel--but explaining just makes me sound like a complainer! I agree on the dog thing--I don't have one because of the hours...
