ARCHIVED Chemical Sensitivities?
holiday16 replied to holiday16's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Wow, glad to know I'm not alone in this! I was thrilled to see someone else mention the dryer sheets because when we lived in a subdivision I hated when we went on walks you get these overwhelming odors from the dryers. I hated that. Now that we live in the country it's not as bad, but every now and then I get a whiff. It's interesting to see what is... -
ARCHIVED Borderline Negative Enterolab Test
holiday16 replied to fedora's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My IGA levels were low, but not by that much. I think mine were in the 70's and my sons were in the 80's. I was told my sons were normal, but that test was actually ordered through his cardiologist and when they called they gave me the numbers because they weren't really sure what they were looking at if that makes sense. Both of us were low positive... -
ARCHIVED This Diet Changes Everything...
holiday16 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My sons 5th grade class went on a 3 day trip and we had to put food together for 3 days. I was up so late last night making pizza and bread plus we spent a bunch of money at the store getting smaller sizes of things to send, snacks and some frozen gluten-free meals. Then I had to put together his menu and instructions on how to prepare away from the other... -
ARCHIVED Borderline Negative Enterolab Test
holiday16 replied to fedora's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you have low IGA levels you can come back with a borderline negative result. The results for me and my son were borderline for being positive and our IGA levels are both on the lower end. My mother was borderline negative and she's been doing the diet for about 1 1/2 years and she really has not noticed a difference, but she was not symptomatic before... -
ARCHIVED Chemical Sensitivities?
holiday16 replied to holiday16's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've always wondered that too! When we're at the mall I hold my breath past the candle stores. My oldest wanted some lip gloss for Christmas so I held my breath while I found it and then gave it to dh to buy while I ran out, LOL. We ended up taking it back anyway because after looking at the ingredients it had saccharine in it. -
I've always been sensitive to chemicals, fragrances etc. and my oldest very obviously is as well. I noticed after I went on the diet I'm not as bad as I used to be. At it's worst I could not go anywhere near the cleaning aisles in the grocery or I would get dizzy, chest pains, headaches and other symptoms. After being off gluten it has seemed to improve...

ARCHIVED Muscle/joint Pain After 6 Years Gluten Free
holiday16 replied to frec's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Have you had your vitamin D actually tested? If mine goes low I get all kinds of joint problems. It has to not just be in range, but has to be at the higher end or I have problems. The D test to get is the 25 OH. Also, have you looked at the fibro. diet or have you been evaluated for fibromyalgia? I began to cut out things that were bothering me and... -
ARCHIVED Explaining Celiac To People
holiday16 replied to Breila's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, when we're in eating places I use the term allergy because it immediately gets their attention and they take it more seriously. Also, at some chick-fil-a restaurants when I've said allergy they flag it where if I said anything else to describe it they would not have done that. If I want to be totally upfront I tell them we have a gluten intolerance... -
ARCHIVED Could Hand Sanitizer Cause A Gluten Reaction?
holiday16 replied to holiday16's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Everything we use is non-toxic and biodegradable. I did send some germicide wipes with her to school. She started using the antibacterial soap when she ran out of the wipes. I just sent some more in with her. That's what made me question if the reaction could have been chemical rather than gluten since we use no chemicals at home. I'm very sensitive... -
ARCHIVED Could Hand Sanitizer Cause A Gluten Reaction?
holiday16 replied to holiday16's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thought I would update on this situation. My daughter stopped using the hand sanitizer and we did see a slight improvement. However, this week she was o.k. for the first part, but midweek she had what was obviously a gluten reaction with more accidents than we've seen over the past few weeks. This Friday I had a meeting where we invited some of her... -
ARCHIVED Iga Deficiency = Negative Blood Test
holiday16 replied to lcarter's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
LOL, my son is a huge daydreamer. He has his own site if you want to see him. It's terribly outdated as he's 11 now, but it will give you an idea of his other health issues. It's part of the reason we pursued seeing the GI Dr. the way we did. The second link has more recent pictures with him in: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results
holiday16 replied to Crimson's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't know what the other ones mean-wish I did. The only reason I knew what the other one for my son was is because we had both Enterolab and Prometheus genetic testing done. Without the Enterolab testing I would never have known his was DQ 2.2 and the other gene was DQ7. I wish they gave more detail with Prometheus. I'll have to ask his GI how common... -
ARCHIVED Iga Deficiency = Negative Blood Test
holiday16 replied to lcarter's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No they don't, but so many of our family members were tested through enterolab that I began to see a trend that I thought might indicate low IGA I talked with the nurse at Enterolab who agreed so I went to my Dr. and requested the test. Mine came back low, but just barely. My son had his tested and came back normal, but just barely. The reason I suspected... -
ARCHIVED Tired Legs
holiday16 replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
When I talked with the nurse at Enterolab I asked her about this and she said they hear that alot and it seems to be the last thing to improve for some reason. In my case I've had it evaluated extensively and can find no solid reason for it. I take many supplements including protein, multi, EPA, GLA, b-complex, calcium magnesium, E, C, D etc. I had... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab
holiday16 replied to OBXMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did you happen to figure out the gene part yet? My son had the same DQ2 (0202) and it took me a while to figure out how it was different from the DQ2 (0201). Wikipedia helped alot, but wow is it confusing!!! -
ARCHIVED Cleaners That Are *not* Gluten Free?
holiday16 replied to holiday16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sigh, I guess it got moved, but I posted it where I did under the parents section because I wanted to hear about parents experience with their children since the nutritionist I'm meeting with is with a children's hospital. -
ARCHIVED Cleaners That Are *not* Gluten Free?
holiday16 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
After the situation I posted about with my daughter and the hand sanitizer I would like to hear more about other experiences people have had with cleaners that are *not* gluten free. I'm meeting with a nutritionist tomorrow and I would like to be able to pass this on if it's a fairly large issue. The hand sanitizer she was using appeared to be gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results
holiday16 replied to Crimson's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have the same genetic results from Enterolab that my son did. We ended up getting testing through a GI Dr. and part of that was a genetic test through Prometheus. They must look at it a bit differently because that test came back saying he is 16x's more likely than the general population to develop celiac and that he does have a celiac gene. The best... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin Question
holiday16 replied to OBXMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We've done alot with supplements with my son. I don't have much time, but you're welcome to e-mail me at paulette at thehealthexpress.com He has a heart defect so everything he takes is pretty much monitored by Drs. as far as safety. The bloodtests are frustrating to try and get ordered sometimes. My son was also diagnosed with eosophagitis. He's 11 now... -
ARCHIVED Would You Consider This A Positive Celiac Result?
holiday16 replied to todzwife's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son had a similar fecal fat score. His was 1254. I can tell you our experience with pursuing more testing. He has a heart defect so at his cardio. appt. I mentioned it to his ped. cardiologist and he was very concerned. We had been seeing a decline in his energy, but had assumed it was heart related. He had a stress test done and his heart was def... -
ARCHIVED Can You Actively Heal Villi? Okra Or Wine?
holiday16 replied to cs789's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just spoke with my NP last week and she recommends L-Glutamine. She said it would heal the intestines faster. The one she gave me is L-Glutamine Plus by Nutri-West. I used it for something else before the whole gluten thing (which she was the one to diagnosis), but did not try it for healing. My symptoms were more neurological so I wasn't as focused... -
ARCHIVED I Think My Dd Has Adhd
holiday16 replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Only have a moment, but I wanted to post to check out this site and the books she offers: Open Original Shared Link I have not read her books, but have heard countless wonderful things about her for years. I would highly encourage you to check it out. Is This Your Child is the one I've seen recommended the most often. I'll have to post more later... -
ARCHIVED Could Hand Sanitizer Cause A Gluten Reaction?
holiday16 replied to holiday16's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, she didn't use it today and so far so good. Whatever it is it seems to build up through the week so I'm not sure yet. I thought maybe it was just a reaction to the product, but she has the tell tale accidents by the end of the week which tells me for sure it's gluten related. She told me the brand and it should be gluten free so I'm thinking maybe... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Says No But Can He Still Be Coeliac
holiday16 replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
With our son the only test that came back positive was the genetic test. He's had the blood test and scope both of which were negative. Based on the fact that I react so strongly to gluten and his positive genetic test he's on a 3 month gluten free trial right now and we're supposed to challenge after 3 months. We can already tell a big difference. He... -
ARCHIVED Lactose Intolerance
holiday16 replied to Dolcenotte's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Great link for percentages of lactose in different foods. I used this to figure out that I was reacting to lactose. I would have problems after drinking a hot chocolate mix, but other dairy products didn't seem to be as bad. It all made sense looking at this site because the choc. mix had nonfat milk in it which is about 50% lactose. I find I do o.k....
