  1. Definitely have him try the diet! I've been sick, tired, in pain and depressed for as long as I can remember. Worse int he last 10-12 years. I went gluten-free on January 1st and cannot believe the changes in just a few days. My blood tests were "inconclusive" and I just didn't want to outlay the cash for the upper GI tests to confirm. We decided...
  2. they made me sick yesterday BWAAAAAAH BWAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Oh well. I'll figure SOMETHING out...gotta have my fries!!!!
  3. Malitol is a prescribled pediatric laxative (as well as a sugar alcohol). (I think it's anything that adds "itol" at the end is a sugar alcohol?). I know A LOT of the sugar free candies, chocolates, etc are made with them. They ALWAYS make me sick, but I don't think it's a gluten issue as much as a sensitive system issue. Does that make sense? I...
  4. Was it the liquid or the powder? I have a hot chocolate I made with the powder before going gluten free, haven't had any b/c I'd been told ot avoid non-dairy creamers. I'm assuming it was the liquid.
  5. LOL I'm cracking up!!!! Most American doctors are CLUELESS!!!!! That's why they call it a "practice" HEE HEE HEEEEEEE!!!!
  6. I have this GREAT recipe for a cinnamon swirl breakfast bread and it's so good! I'd love to make it, I guess I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and make a loaf - maybe I'll half it and make muffins instead and if THEY work, try the bread. I just don't want to waste the flours b/c they cost so darned much!
  7. We just had gluten free pancakes this morning. I looked at A LOT of recipes and then just made my old recipe and used white rice flour. They were so great! My kids didn't even notice a difference and my husband said "you can make these ALL the time". I was pleased... Here's the recipe... 1 cup white rice flour 1 Tbs sugar 2 tsp baking powder pinch...
  8. I got them! I'm going to make my powersticks now! Got all my gluten free ingredients!
  9. I have several quick bread recipes....would I just be able to substitute the flours? I mean, quick breads don't really rely on gluten do they? 1 is a banana bread 1 is a cinnamon quick bread I know they'll be denser, and probably drier...but would I be able just to use, say a mixture of white rice & brown rice flour (I want to stay away from beany...
  10. THANK YOU!!! Do you think you could let them bake as the balls THEN put a hershey's kiss in them and make the PB Blossoms? Those are my absolute favorite cookie in the world. Or is Hershey's not gluten free??? EEEEK!!!
  11. I can honestly say, i do not ever see me "embracing" being high maintenance! LOL I HATE attention! Well, BAD attention! I like good attention just fine. I feel bad enough being alive sometimes, taking up room and space (that's meant to be tongue in cheek, not serious). I HATE putting others out. I KNOW I have a right to, it's just hard for me to do...
  12. GEESH! I thought my hsuband was being supportive, then last night he says "oh, so you're not buying any bread anymore?" LOL! I wanted to strangle him! I guess I can't make everyone gluten free like I'd like. And I know if my kids see bread in the house they'll want it. I WILL NOT let this make me fail. I WILL do this.
  13. I just RECENTLY went gluten free. I'm on day 5. Overall, I feel better. I have a LITTLE bit more energy. BUT, I think that there might be gluten in maybe my vitamins. I've taken them the last two days and I get the big D almost right after taking them (maybe 20-30 mins) When I take my vits I take on an empty stomach and then eat right after taking...
  14. Brands? I know that Nature-made makes gluten free ones - but not ALL of them are. I looked at 20 labels last night by them and found only 4 that came right out and said "gluten free" on them. Any others? I'm currenlty taking a product that claims to be gluten free (Green's First), but I've had the D after taking it...I stopped it when going gluten...
  15. Any kind of pasta will freeze well... I made a pasta bake the other night... I'm not sure how to link the thread, but here's the recipe: 1 lb ground meat (I used chicken) 8 oz brown rice pasta 1 28 oz jar spaghetti sauce (gluten free, of course) 2 cups shredded mozzarella 1/4 cup shredded parmesan Brown the meat. Add the sauce and cooked...

    ARCHIVED Family

sorry. People can be so cruel! I'm concerned about my first family gathering since going gluten-free. BUT.... My husband has gout, so I'm ALWAYS concious of what's available to him for eating. To the point where I usually bring something I know is safe. I'm am the complete opposite when I know someone has specific dietary concerns. I have...
  18. Jerry - I'm on day 4! Newbie, twobie. I think support is so crucial! My husband is 100% supportive, to the point of doing it with me. Of course, I'm the SAHM who takes care of all the grocery buying and cooking in the house, so they really don't have a choice!!! LOL I can't believe how different I feel in just 4 days. It's astounding to me...
  19. Not a huge issue right now. NOT planning on going to any restaurants in the near future...but how do you navigate restaurants without being "high maintenance"? I don't want to be the one at the table that says "well, this is what I need, yada yada yada" and make everyone at the table feel uncomfortable. BUT I also don't want to "endanger" myself. ...
  20. CONGRATS and happy anniversary!!! Glad to hear it. Very encouraging to someone who is only on day 4.
  21. What's up with Amy's? I thought they WERE healthy? NO? I have the luxury of being a SAHM, BUT....catching lunch is hard for me now too. I used to eat whatever was left on the kids plates (don't laugh it's true!). I've only been gluten-free for 4 days, but have been investigating longer. Hormel Pepperoni is gluten free. I found brown...
  22. LOL!!!! I was looking in the "living without" magazine...there is actually a glutenfree company called "Silly-yak"....SO FUNNY!!!!
  23. Made a brown rice pasta bake for dinner last night! It was GREAT! Kids loved it, hubby loved it....I was so happy!!! I used 8 oz Tinkyada Brown rice elbows, 28 oz of homemade (always was always will be gluten free) spaghetti sauce, mozzarella cheese and parmasean (both were amazingly, gluten free even though I bought them before I went gluten free...
  24. Hi....I'm REALLY new at this (day 3) but I bought a copy of Living Without lastnight. There's a guy in sedona that makes an "all purpose" flour blend that you can apparently substitute cup for cup for regular flour. I'm going to order the sample pack after I use up the white rice flour I bought. The website for it is www.glutenfreeflour.com . It looks...
  25. Okay! I get it now! WOW....interesting!!!! THANKS! for clearing that up, now I won't feel silly wondering what it is! I dont know why it never even occurred to me that this site would be worldwide, but WOW....the WWW really makes it a small world, doesn't it! ?
