  1. Are their brands or lines that are gluten free? I can't seem to find anyone who will commit to spices being gluten free? I'm assuming I need to dump all my current spices (I have used a couple of them recently, and I don't think I'm reacting to them, but I'd prefer to be safe than sorry). Even Whole Foods doesn't list ANY of their spices on their...
  2. Definitions of the flours and starches and things like xanthum and guar gums to see what they offer to baking things like breads, cakes, etc. Like if I made a bread with just different types of rice flour (like brown and white) and I used xanthum gum, would it work or would I need to have tapioca or potato starch in it? Does that make sense? I want...
  3. I've only been doing the diet for 16 days, so I'm NO expert. BUT I can say, i think it's easier to give up when you have the "gut" reaction! I mean, it makes you so obviously sick, that you can say "why would I want to do this to myself". But when you have little or no major symptoms, I'm sure it's hard to justify because you can not physically feel or...
  4. I've had the same thought. WE do not have pets...but about a year ago I did the pb/birdseed feeders with my kids. I had hives all the way up my arms and got REALLY REALLY sick from the exposure. This was way before I was gluten free, (only been doing this two weeks) but i'm assuming that had to do with it, somehow. I do have a severe dust allergy too...
  5. I cannot speak from experience, but it's been mentioned here that Bob's REd Mill Whole grain bread mix (make sure it's the gluten free one) is really good. I have a few others I want to try before that one, but you might lik eit - you'd have to bake it yourself, but I think it wouldn't be difficult - most of them are mix together, pour in pan, let rise...
  6. Okay...wait....I'm confused!!!! I missed for a few days and missed the drama. Are FOREIGN sources required to follow the labeling law? I think I said in my original post that the yogurt was from Aldi. I believe them to be an international company so it is entirely possible that the MFS in the yogurt and the yogurt itself was from a foreign source...
  7. You are so much braver than I! i can't do it! I've thought, like you, that I need a doc's diagnosis! I thought, I could eat it again for a few weeks, just till I get the test...sure, I can. NOPE!!! Thankfully, I'm the kind who can just say "it feels better" and move on (still going to have my kids tested though, I don't want them EVER to go thru this...
  8. Awwww!!! LOL so....what's the name of the gluten-free soy sauce?
  9. I LOVE your avatar! That is SOOOOOO cool!!!!
  10. Okay. I'm going to trust you guys. Once I get thru my gluten free pantry bread mixes, I'll give it a try. THANKS. I'm really missing bread. And the two times I've had gluten free bread it's been just awful. Icky icky awful. Will my tastebuds change and actually start to LIKE it??? LOL
  11. Is it really that good???? I'm missing bread and want to make some (I'm going to bake my gluten-free pantry mix first. BUT....) is it really good? REALLY????
  12. Thanks. I didn't get to make them yet. I got too wrapped up with other stuff. I tried to use the bread from the bakery I had gotten. YUCK. It's REALLY bad. i will try it tomorrow. I more think I'll make them into rolls anyway b/c if it doesn't taste right, I don't want to force myself to eat it too fast. Does that make sense? Will I EVER...
  13. I was going to try it this weekend but the wait was 80 minutes! If you go on their website, they have a gluten-free menu...BUT it's really the menu with suggestions on how to order it so that it is gluten free - you would still need to tell the server what to do. ALSO, on the salads they say to tell the server to have the salad made in a "new bowl". ...
  14. Alright. LAck of answers is forcing me to try it! I'm going ot the bread machine right now to put it in. I'm hoping it works. I really want a chicken cheese steak! WAAAAAAA WAAAAAA!
  15. So far I've just been using White Rice flour in sweet/quick breads. I think the flour mixture makes a HUGE difference in yeast breads. The key to a muffin mix is to mix until combined but it will still be kind of lumpy - not smooth. I also agree with previous posters revision on the recipe directions - my only comment is for the true "muffin...
  16. I had heard that too. But it was the only questionable ingredient which I why I was blaming that. I heard that if it's from a foreign source it can be from wheat - but a US source is not "usually" wheat. The Yogurt was from Aldi so it is ENTIRELY possible that the source is foreign and that is why. I don't know. Don't plan on trying again to find out...
  17. I love the Lundberg ones too....I can eat them PLAIN!!! Which says a lot for a rice cake!
  18. Classico made by Heinz? Or is it KRaft? I was on the phone with one of them the other day (both, actually but whoever makes them), the rep specifically said that the Classico's are gluten free. Now, me, personally, i make my own sauce in 8 quart batches and freeze them, so I don't buy jarred sauce. I was "told" they were gluten free. could it be...
  19. WOW! You are so sweet! DEFINITELY stick to the things that are not "packaged" that way you won't have any possible gluten in your ingredients. And listen to folks regarding the cross contamination. I always love salads with a meat or fish on top. Annies Natural makes some salad dressings that are gluten free right on the bottle (their buttermilk...
  20. I've been using Lundburg as well - they say gluten free right on the label which is why I chose them over the others. I REALLY like them too, I don't ever remember liking them before, and I used to eat them on and off b/c they are "diet" food.. I get the brown rice ones. I use them for EVERYTHING!!! I even break them up so they act as croutons in my...
  21. I had a horrible reaction last night from some yogurt that contained MFS. I think you need to be concerned WHERE it was packaged. Mine was from Aldi's plain yogurt. i didn't check the label before using it - it was last minute and I just grabbed it. I didn't even think (I'm so new at it). It is ABSOLUTELY the only way there was gluten. The pans, cutting...
  22. Is it a sweet bread? I have used white rice flour so far with my sweet quick bread recipes and it's worked just fine. Worked for pancakes too. i wouldn't use a baking mix for the reason you mentioned (and it's hard to know how to adjust the baking soda/baking powder) in order to make it work. hope this helps
  23. GNC???? REALLY!!!!?????? WOW, thanks. There's one at my mall!!!! I found another company "Nature's Bounty", they're sending me a list, but they say that most of their items are gluten free and that they clearly label either way. I can get them at CVS. THANKS!!!
  24. Hi. A store nearby was going out of business so I picked up 4 of these for half price. i was really excited. I got the french bread/pizza crust one and I'm wondering. Can I make on the dough cycle in the bread machine and then shape into small loaves and rise again and bake? I want to make chicken cheese steaks for dinner tomorrow night, but I need...
  25. Cherrybrook Farms makes one too - and frosting mix as well. A girlfriend of mine made them for her daughters birthday party. NONE of the kids knew that they were gluten AND dairy free.
