ARCHIVED Can Anyone Get The Rye-less Rye?
jazminecat posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi - I've been searching high and low for either the Enjoy Life Ryeless Rye or the Trader Joes brand, and can't find it anywhere. Enjoy Life emailed me and confirmed they have discontinued it. Can anyone out there find any of either of these? I would really like to get some and can paypal you any money including shipping if you can come up with some for... -
ARCHIVED Freezing Gluten Free Pasta
jazminecat replied to sammers1's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Works for me every time. I use Tinkyada pasta, and freeze the extra noodles tossed with a little olive oil, in a ziploc bag. I just toss them into boiling water right from the freezer, and take them out almost immediately - leaving them in just long enough to thaw and reheat. You can undercook them just a bit if you're worried about them getting mushy... -
Definitely try Almond Breeze. It's really tasty, and great on cereal, in tea or coffee, and for cooking. It's all we use now. They eve have a chocolate version that's a super tasty indulgence too!

ARCHIVED Hi, New To The Disease
jazminecat replied to katieanne's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Katie - welcome! Next time, just use Tinkyada pasta for the boyfriend - he'll never know it's gluten free, and you won't have to worry about getting sick. Note too, that if he has eaten gluten, had a beer, had bread, etc, and you kiss, you can get glutened - so make him brush first. -
ARCHIVED Celiac On Epicurious - Misinformation?
jazminecat posted a topic in Publications & Publicity
There's an article posted today on Epicurious.com about the gluten free cooking spree in New York last week. As soon as I started reading it, I was furious - because what the writer claims could not only make it even harder for us to make our point in restaurants, but it's misinformation that I think could make newbies sick. Here's the part that got me:... -
ARCHIVED Serious Salty Junk Food Craving
jazminecat replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Mission tortilla chips do it for me. Lundberg rice chips too. Homemade guacamole with lots of lime and a bit of salt works too. I also eat the Natural Ruffles or Lays brand potato chips, a little too much I"m sure. I'm not sure if they have CC issues though - I'm not that sensitive (yet). -

ARCHIVED gluten-free Restaurant In Dfw, Athens Or Keller? Desperate!
jazminecat posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hi, I"m going to visit my in-laws next week, and am wondering if anyone knows somewhere I can eat safely either coming from the airport, going to Keller, or near Athens? Somewhere that serves fish would be important since I am also a vegetarian who eats fish, and also can't eat dairy. I know, I know - I just don't go out to eat anymore, but they really... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free In Seattle?
jazminecat replied to jaimi alderson's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Wild Ginger has some great servers who are super ready to help you find items on the menu that you can eat. I have eaten there once since I went gluten-free, and had a wonderful experience! Their food is really fantastic. Also, I've only heard raves about Impromptu, so do try it. The Chef there is engaged to a celiac and knows all about making food safely... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Honeymoon Suggestions
jazminecat replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Don't let the media scare you off a cruise. I went on two and had a fabulous time on both of them. The stomach virus that the news likes to talk about on cruise ships is prevalent *anywhere* there are large numbers of people confined to a finite space. Institutions, hospitals, jails, and the like. When I was on the ships I was amazed at how many people... -
ARCHIVED Local Celiac Support Group's Leader Makes Me Nervous!
jazminecat replied to Electra's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I hear you there! I tried going to the local gluten-free support group once - and not only did not a single person come up and say hello, even though we were the only people there without nametags on - but it was all about what junk food we could safely eat. isn't that what got us into this mess in the first place? I don't eat meat, although I eat fish... -
ARCHIVED Food Diary "a Day In The Gluten-free Life"
jazminecat replied to kbabe1968's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm on about a year off gluten now. I'm amazed reading these replies, though, at how few veggies most people eat - some don't have anything green listed at all! And we're obviously not starving in the starch department. For me, I try to limit my egg intake to two per week, and that's usually on weekends. We will do an omelet with spinach or asparagus... -

ARCHIVED Maintain A Healthy Bowel?
jazminecat replied to sewfunky's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I take a supplement called Blue Heron, which has psyllium and flax and slippery elm - it's a tremendous help healing the entire digestive tract. I purchased it at my naturopath, and now I buy it online. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free For 3 Weeks And I Think I'm Feeling Worse!
jazminecat replied to AliceW's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Alice, I agree that cross contamination is a huge issue. when i first started, I was stunned at all the places gluten hides. I also did a massive elimination diet with the guidance of a good naturopath, and cut out soy and dairy as well. I can just now, after one year of healing, eat soy in small amounts, and still have challenges with dairy but can eat... -
ARCHIVED Help With What To Eat For Lunches
jazminecat replied to runnerjen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I bring my lunch too, and in the beginning, it was really challenging as I'm a vegetarian and can't eat dairy either. Now, I usually bring a banana, some almonds I roast at home with WF tamari, some cooked short grain brown rice, and some fresh chopped veggies in a bag to steam. I just add a little water to the bag and microwave them for a minute, and then...
