ARCHIVED Food Without Cooking
hapi2bgf replied to starlitgrl27's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree with Richard. Find out which dorm has at least a community kitchen and demand to be moved to that dorm for the spring semester. Find out who controls the disability policies and determine if you need to be classified as a 504 to get any action from the school. Until then, hopefully you have a small fridge, try the George Foreman type grills. That... -
ARCHIVED Can Anyone Explain What Dh Symptoms Are?
hapi2bgf replied to hapi2bgf's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Thanks for the replies. I seem tp have Deb's problem with toughing the gluten. Maybe one day soon I'll get an allergy test to see if a true allergy to wheat is the contact problem. -
ARCHIVED Can Anyone Explain What Dh Symptoms Are?
hapi2bgf posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi, I thought DH was a rash that affected your knees and elbows. From the little I have read, it sounds that many of you have other symptoms. Can you list some common symptoms or your own symptoms? Can you tell me if my skin problems could be DH? I had a biopsy diagnosis of Celiacs a little over a year ago. I have been gluten-free ever since with... -
Do any of you dye your hair? Which products work for you? I don't have DH, but I keep having problems when I dye my hair. The gray is overwhelming and depressing. Any suggestions? I have not found any of the henna dyes in my area. Tiny86: If you find a list of chemical names and what they mean to celiacs, can you send it to me? Thanks!

Can anyone tell me which brands of Ham are safe or what I need to look for when buying a whole ham. I am trying to buy a whole ham to cook for the family. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

My house is mixed. Some items are gluten-free. Some items are peanut/tree nut free (for peanut allergy without Celiacs). Some items are non-gluten-free. Most meals are gluten-free except pasta, pizza, pancakes, and waffles. We share all household appliances and so far, the only problems arise when company comes to visit. I bring gluten-free foods...

ARCHIVED Band-aids: Transdermal Gluten Contamin?
hapi2bgf replied to Donna F's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know people on this site say that you cannot absorb through the skin, but I know if I touch gluten with my hands, my hands break out. I do not have DH. It's almost like a mini-gluten reaction. My hands split open and bleed. So, I for one believe there is some connection between Gluten on my hands and Celics. On a different note, an allergist can do... -
ARCHIVED Chicken--most Have Broth Added
hapi2bgf replied to mcalister14's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've called Tysons about their frozen chicken and it is gluten-free. The borth that they add is literally boiled chicken water. I had a long chat with them to make sure I was clea. Now I eat the frozen chicken all the time and never have a problem! I can't remember the answer about the fresh chicken, but I am pretty sure it is gluten-free too. Please call... -
ARCHIVED Gf Vodka?
hapi2bgf replied to jusright's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I drink Smirnoff and have no troubles. I checked it about a year ago and it was gluten-free. -
Just a thought . . . .I had pain in the upper right of my stomach almost under my rib cage. Turns out it was a bad gallbladder. It was never a excrutiating pain or anything like the gallbladder attacks that have been described to me. If your pain continous you may want to talk to a Gastorinterologist - preferably one who knows about Celiacs.

ARCHIVED She Gets It

That's great! Aren't kids amazing in what they learn and deal with! Sometimes I think kids do a better job than adults with life's little issues! -
ARCHIVED 2 Months Gluten Free And Feeling Down
hapi2bgf replied to lilliexx's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I go out to eat often and have a great time. Find a few restaurants in your area that would be fun "date" places and call ahead to figure out, with a manager's help, what foods would be safe for you. Ask about plain unmarinaded foods, dedicated fryers, etc. Most manager's are very earger to help because they want your business. Start a list of local restaurants... -
ARCHIVED I Have A List Of Gf Menu Items At Chili's
hapi2bgf replied to Killarney's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks for the list. I took it to my local Chilis and spoke with the manager who was very knowledgable due to a family member being a celiac. We agreed that all of the items on the list would be safe EXCEPT for the Fries (not dedicated fryer), Baked Potato soup, and Citrus Fire Chicken and Shrimp. They apparently orders several different cuts of chicken... -
ARCHIVED What Would You Do? 2 Yr Old And Endoscopy...
hapi2bgf replied to sashabetty's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If it were my child, I would have to say take the next step in testing. Either try the Entro Lab (Sp?) or do the endoscopy. No one wants their child or loved one to be diagnosed with Celiacs or any other disease, but your child is showing signs of problems with something. I would feel better testing and eliminating the Celiac disease possibility for sure... -
ARCHIVED Reaction After Touching Foods ?
hapi2bgf replied to wildones's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know I have heard everyone say you can't absorb Gluten through your skin, but I know my hands split open and bleed whenever I touched Gluten. I do not have DH. Now I wear gloves when touching any foods that contain gluten. I do not recall an intestinal reaction, but the last touch reaction was close to a year ago. -
ARCHIVED Have Pink Eye
hapi2bgf posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi everyone, It seems that my illness this week is Pink Eye. It's a lovely little disease. I get this very easily. The last time I had Pink Eye was before diagnosed with Celiacs. The doctor is fine with me just keeping the medication and using it for my next round of Pink Eye. My problem is the Pink Eye medication that I have is from Bausch and Lomb... -
ARCHIVED What Is The Endoscopy Like?
hapi2bgf replied to Killarney's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For as awful as the idea of an endoscopy is, the actual procedure is easy. I was out and remember nothing. Bring someone with you as you will not remember much or be able to form any real questions immediately after the prodecure. If you are really nervous/anxious going into the procedure, ask the nurse or doctor for something to relax you. They will... -
ARCHIVED Allergy Test Didnt Show Wheat Allergy.
hapi2bgf replied to azedazobollis's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Christine, I have a child with a peanut allergy too. She also tested postive for a milk allergy at her first skin test, but since she lived on cheese and dairy products at the time the allergist said to consider the milk allergy result a false positive. At her second allergy test a year later, she tested neagtive for the milk allergy, but had a very... -
ARCHIVED Dizziness
hapi2bgf replied to hapi2bgf's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks everyone! I have a new found respect for Vertigo sufferers! I can't relate this problem back to a gluten ingestion. Besides, typically when I ingest gluten my reaction is very different and noticable by my whole family! I am having a right sided problem too, so maybe it is a fluid in the ear thing. Any thoughts on how to get the fluid out of... -
ARCHIVED Dizziness
hapi2bgf posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This may have nothing to do with Celiacs, but it seems that when something goes wrong I check for a relationship to Celiacs before I look any further. Recently I have been getting dizzy spells that are cuasing problems. I few weeks ago when I had the first one I associated it with the headcold I had. Now I am no longer sick and the spinning rooms are killing... -
ARCHIVED Broth?
hapi2bgf replied to FreyaUSA's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The local warehouse store sells Tyson's bagged frozen boneless chicken breasts which have broth added. When I called the company I was told that the chicken broth is gluten-free. I made the lady explain and she said they just boiled chicken and chicken parts in water and that was the broth which is added to the meat. I eat the chicken regularly and never... -
ARCHIVED Visiting Friends And Relatives W/o Cd
hapi2bgf replied to kabowman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
First bring all the food you need to the family trip. If you have a great dessert, brign enough for everyone to share. As for the Xmas party, call her before and let her know about your food issues. Either bring all of your own food or bring something you can share like the fruit salad. I almost always eat before going to any party. That way it is easier... -
ARCHIVED Amys Pizza
hapi2bgf replied to terri's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've never seen anything except the Plain Cheese Rice pizza from Amy's. I know that one is good. Can you check the box again and call the company? Feel better soon! -
ARCHIVED Kroger Cheese
hapi2bgf replied to BRCoats's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use the Kroger brands cheeses (both shredded and block) and I have not had any problems. I believe I called months ago about it. They have a great dieticians line to call in and get help with their products.
