  1. How do you handle daycare when they let your child eat an absolute NO NO food? My child was allowed to eat a known "not allowed" item. When I questioned it, I get the look like I am the idiot here. The answer was "she took it". Well heck she's taken things from me too, BUT I TAKE THEM OUT OF HER HANDS!!!! I certainly do not allow her to eat something...
  2. I hate to say this but, start a massive list of EVERYTHING you use on your child (soap, cream, toothpaste, diaper cream, plus foods and drinks) and start calling. If you do not get a straight answer, use a different product. Clan Thompson used to sell foods lists that might be helpful. They come in paper back and electronic. I know play dough contains...
  3. I was undiagnosed and visably sick while trying to breast feed the first child. It didn't go well. Part of her colic and problems was probably not enough milk, but I had no help while trying to nurse. I too had to give up. I don't think the lack of milk is a direct sign of celiacs. For me I was starving away and couldn't maintain weight while trying to...
  4. I've brought all kinds of things into a restaurant before and never had a problem. I would not even think twice about bringing pizza. I would be sure to order a drink at least from the place. I make the Bette hagman italian bread recipe and put it in my pizza pan. Partially cook it, then add toppings and cook the rest. Time consuming, but great!. My...
  5. Hi, Does anyone have a database that they use to manage gluten-free food lists? I have purchased the list from Clan Tompson before and it does not fit my need. I was looking for a database (Access file) that I can add foods to and delete foods I don't need. I do not have regular access to the Internet, so checking online before I go out is not a good...
  6. I have not checked in a while, but I thought Snapple contained Gluten?? Maybe it was just the Iced Tea.... regardless, check your foods again just in case something has changed. I always rule out a gluten attach first. As far as allergies are concerned, yes you can develope an allergy "over-night". But, if you have been overall itchy for two days in...
  7. Just overwhelmed today. Added yet another food allergy to the household and I can't figure out how to manage it very well. I'm trying to figure out how to manage mulpitple food allergies in one house. Everyone has one allergy of their own, but we have a total of three different allergies. One allergy is anaphylactic. I know other people on this site...
  8. My child is now two and we have been battling all sorts of issues from the start. Although none sound as serious as yours. We have food allergies and celiac disease in the immediate family and autoimmune diseases throughout the extended family. My child dropped 30% at her 9 mth check up. I was told that is normal. She will just be smaller than the older...
  9. I am expecting a copy of the test results at the next doctor appt along with clarification on exactly what came back positive (gene test or biopsy?) Promethuis labs did the testing, so I expect the results to be accurate. From what I understood of the phone call, the lab is the one stating "unlikely to have Celiacs but results do not exclude it." The doctor...
  10. We just made cake gluten-free for me and the kids begged for more. We used the Cherry Brooke Kitchen Chocolate cake mix and home made buttercream frosting. Easy and tasted great! Cherry brooke kitchen cakes are gluten-free, Nut free, egg free, . . . . free of so many things it should have been awful but the cake was great!!!!! Plus my kids are really...
  11. Actually we did put her back on gluten She is off to the kinesiologist for recommendations soon. Regular doctors just are not doing it. The doctor knows that her eating gluten is a limited time frame for him to do testing or prove she is not a celiac. He wants us to visit a dietician. The illness has cleared up. That is good news. Yes the...
  12. A few weeks ago I posted that my 2 yr old was about to go in for her biopsy. We put her on the gluten-free diet that day. The results from the tests just came in. "Only has one positive for celiacs out of seven. Does not rule out celiacs, but highly unlikely that she has it." We go in for the official reults in a few weeks. Then I will get all the numbers...
  13. Thanks so much for all the input. A debate was raging on whether or not I was being just a tad crazy in regards to the ".002 % barley as being unsafe." I have always viewed this as unsafe for myself, but since I was facing limiting my child's food to only gluten-free I wanted other opinions. The doctor has pulled her back off the gluten-free diet for...
  14. Hi, I have a 2 yr old who cannot tolerate milk. Normally we use Soy milk. But I have heard a lot of bad reports about giving young kids Soy products. The Rice Milk that is available states "contains Barley .002%" I know this is a very small amount but still. Is this safe for gluten-free diet? Do any of you use products with this statement? Any...
  15. I seem to be very sensitive to gluten and even have contact problems, plus I needed to dye my hair. Way too much grey - and only on one side! What I found to work the best was having foil highlights done at a salon. The dye does not sit on your scalp and this seemed to work for me - although expensive. I had to stop due to the cost. I would bring my own shampoo...
  16. I live near Ft Myers and was hoping to find a support group. Anyone have any ideas? Naples and Sarasota are a drive but can be worked out if there is a support group there. Thanks
  17. Hi Does anyone have experience with children starting a gluten-free diet after they were already in school or daycare? I need some advice. What are acceptable expectations for the teachers? How did you handle foods and drinks and eating? Right now, I am providing all food and drink. Can the child be at the same table with the other kids? I see no reason...
  18. Hi Everyone, I really need some help and advice. I have celiac disease. I can manage my own celiac disease just fine, but I do all of the cooking and food purchasing. The problem is my 2 yr old just went gluten-free. She is in a daycare and I need to find a balance about what can be used at the school and what I need to provide for her. Since this is...
  19. I have another child who is already in kindergarten with a different food allergy. Here's what I did, maybe you could modify it to fit your child. I am hoping to modify my copy to make it fit celiacs, I just don't know what items to include with celiacs yet. If you'd like I can send you a copy when mine is complete? First, as always, introduce yourself...
  20. Hi, The baby had her endoscopy and she is now on the gluten-free diet. How soon did you see a noticeable change in your child
  21. Please post what your doctor said about the miilk and constipation. I have one child that was taken off milk about a month ago due to constpaion. Much better now with little to no milk.
  22. Are second graders old enough to do a science experiment? i.e., use something like a shag carpet that is highly absorbent and something flat and not very absorbent. LIne the inside of a tube with each and see which one absorbs more. Idea is to show how little nutrients are absorbed during a gluten reaction. Maybe this idea is beyond 2nd graders? I do...
  23. Hi Everyone, I've been reading previous posts and hoped that maybe you had some words of advice for me. My daughter is 23 months old. She has not grown much in the last year. Her percentages started a drastic drop at 9 months and have not stopped. She is starving and has a distended belly. She eats more than the older child. I finally have a good...
