Sorry to hear you are having such problems. Do you have a good source for health foods? The reason I am asking is sometimes they can recommend a good herbalist/kinisiologist (sp?). The kinisiologist uses muscle testing to see which herbs , creams, etc will work best for you and how much and how often you should use it. I am the first to admit that I was the...

ARCHIVED My Husband Spent The Last 24 Hrs. In The Hospital
gfgypsyqueen replied to T-Bird's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm so sorry to hear you and your husband are going through this. I really don't have any advice except to make sure the doctors address all of your concerns and test him thoroughly. You mentioned he may not be a celiac. Was he ever tested? If he is having this much trouble with the ulcer, maybe an endoscopy is needed to see what is going on? Research... -
ARCHIVED Lets Talk About Tea
gfgypsyqueen replied to pedro's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you want bottled tea, try Sweet Leaf tea. I like the raspberry flavor They are all gluten-free. Also Snapple teas are now gluten-free. I don't know why, but Snapple really bothers my stomach - like a mini reaction, but the tea should be gluten-free so I have no idea. Personally, I live on Luizianne Iced Tea with fruit juice. -
ARCHIVED Any Support Group In South Florida?
gfgypsyqueen replied to pedro's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi, I think there is one in Tampa. What part of Florida are you in? I'm just outside Fort Myers. I know there are a lot of Celiacs in my area, but I have not found a support group here ( -
ARCHIVED Great News! Allergy Database
gfgypsyqueen posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My local healthfood store told me to check out Wellshire farms on line. They have a searchable database online. You can search for gluten-free foods, dairy free, and other allergies!!!! It's great! Plus they put gluten-free, DF (dairy free) and others on their label so it makes grocery shopping easy!! -
ARCHIVED Does This Sound Like A Dairy Reaction?
gfgypsyqueen replied to Nic's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I would have him checked out by an allergist. He sounds a bit like my kids - neither handle milk well. The oldest is probably lactose intolerant. My oldest ALWAYS got severe constipation from too much milk, cheese, yogurt etc. And she love yogurt and cheese!!! We used to monitor how much milk she ate and still battled tummy aches, crying, constipation... -
My child recently went completely dairy/casein free. Believe it or not, I found the dairy.casein very hard to figure out at first. And I am still learning. FAAN has shopping cards you can buy that help. Look for Vegan products. At first I bought a lot of dairy free, non-dairy, lactose free cheeses and things and found out once I learned more that all...

ARCHIVED Calling All Gluten Free "chefs"
gfgypsyqueen replied to JennyC's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
For dessert I always bring a flourless chocolate cake with homemade whip cream and fresh berries. Some flourless choclate cakes require a little regular flour, so look for a recipe that is truely flourless. The nice part is it is shockingly easy to make, serves a lot of people and everyone loves chocolate! If you need a recipe, e-mail me. Cheese and... -
ARCHIVED Oddest Places That Have Gluten
gfgypsyqueen replied to confused's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Bird seed for the outside bird feeder. (So busy looking for nuts that I missed the gluten notice and got SICK!!!) Dog food and dog bones Minute Maid, Dole, and Tropicanna juices (Only 100% juice drinks are gluten-free. Pure OJ is fine, but Banana & Pineapple OJ is not gluten-free. Drives me crazy!) -
ARCHIVED gluten-free In Hospital
gfgypsyqueen replied to georgie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I have been in the hospital for surgeries and a baby, I always end up bringing my own food. I make big meals and freeze them. The nurses will sometimes help out in the reheating or you can get it done yourself. They usually have a patient fridge on the floor. When I had the baby, I went in and spoke to the dietician and preregistered and still... -
ARCHIVED Do You Celebrate Your Celiac Diagnosis Day?
gfgypsyqueen posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It seems that my past life was the life that I got to eat whatever I want where ever I wanted. Food was just something that tasted great and I craved different things at different times, like chocolate . . . I never read a label, execpt to look at the fat content and probably buy it anyway. Now after years of being sick and never knwoing what the problem... -
ARCHIVED Boars Head? Gluten Free?
gfgypsyqueen replied to justme's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We have a celiac and a dairy/casein allergy in the family. We eat Boar's Head. I buy the Mesquite Turkey and the Tavern Ham. As I have learned dairy free does not mean casein free. I have not figured out the labeling issues with the dairy allergy yet, but I have found dairy free items that contain Lactic acid , lactose, whey so I don't understand. Basically... -
ARCHIVED Gastroparesis?
gfgypsyqueen replied to mellajane's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, I've got gastroparesis. I found out when I was seriously sick before getting the Celiac diagnosis. They took out my gallbladder, which wasn't working anyway, in hopes that it would help the gastroparesis. It did not. So avoid that path if you can, until you try other methods. Gastroparesis is something you have for life that gets better and worse over... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Scared, Guilty, Overwhelmed
gfgypsyqueen replied to anemic's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have to agree with the last poster. Bloodwork can be unreliable. The biopsy can also be unreliable in young babies. But your body will let you know if gluten-free lifestyle is right for you. I was negative blood work and positive biopsy. Feel much better gluten-free. BTW: I daydreamed through many years of school . In todays world, I would have been... -
ARCHIVED Symptom Cycle - Related To Monthly Cycle?
gfgypsyqueen replied to lisalouryan's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think the moodiness and depression at PMS are better now that I am gluten-free. However, if you happen to be unfortunate enough to combine a Gluten attack and PMS, let's just say the results are not good for anyone in a 5 mile radious. I can usually tell when I have been glutened mainly by the depression and moodiness. Then is the realization that everything... -
ARCHIVED Allergy Or Coincidence?
gfgypsyqueen replied to chrrsn's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi, Sorry to hear your baby is having troubles too. Mine is also 2. We just tested her for celiacs - negative for now, but she has the gene so who knows. Her problem seems to be a dairy allergy. She has TERRIBLE diarreah and rashes as a reaction. Within 24 hrs she will have a blistery, fire red, rash on her bum. And yes we have days of liquid pourable... -
I pulled my daughther off dairy (She is 2). And clearly she has a problem with dairy. Over the first weekend I saw a big improvement is stools. Then everytime she has had even trace amounts of a milk product, her bowls are destroyed and she is a mess for days. I would have to say two weeks is enough time to see an improvemnt and probably a reaction if...

ARCHIVED Gluten In My Meds?
gfgypsyqueen replied to BackTalk's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Actually, when talkng about prescription medications, there is very little to do except to call the manufacturer. I found an extremely helpful pharmacist once. She would check every product I was prescribed, which was quite a few at that time. Then she called one day to tell me that she had read an article and then researched it and found that the inert ingredients... -
ARCHIVED Parties And Eating At Friends' Houses
gfgypsyqueen replied to MumInOz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sounds like your husband is great. Your older child is on board with the gluten-free thing which is great. After that, if you get anyone to be helpful and supportive it is a perk. Unfortunately I found family to be the hardest to get the gluten-free issue and food alelrgy issue straight. My own opinion is that people take the Medic Alert braclet pretty seriously... -
ARCHIVED Should I Just Quit?
gfgypsyqueen replied to boho*mama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was in a similar position with my youngest, she just turned 2. She is very small. She gains weight, but her overall well baby percentages just keep dropping. She is barely thriving. I am a celiac. We have severe food allergies in the family. The fact that the baby was always hungry, bloated belly, barely growing, etc. we pushed for the celiac test. ANd... -
ARCHIVED Ever Been Glutened By Someone Who Was Trying To Prove You Would Not Be?
gfgypsyqueen replied to angel42's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can't even imagine what you are going through right now. So you do really think you are ever going to be able to trust him with making food for you again?? I am not sure I would. Some people are just inconsiderate, ignorant, *&*&*&^%%. Excuse my french! Unfortunately, the worst people I know regarding the food allergies are my own immediate... -
ARCHIVED Mu Husband Wants To Take The Kids Out Of Town Overnight.
gfgypsyqueen replied to Karwei5's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't know how Downs factors into the foods, does it require special diet too? Last minute trips are always really hard to plan. Actually I have always found breakfast to be one of the easiest gluten-free meals to eat out. Eggs, hash browns, fruit. (Omlettes are generally cooked in specific frying pans, so no grill contamination problems.) Bring gluten... -
ARCHIVED Medical Id Bracelets
gfgypsyqueen replied to Dandelion's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If the Celiac is a minor (child) I would get a medicalert braclet. My child wears one for a peanut allergy. Beofre she had her bracelet, when she told an adult that she has a nut allergy they did not take her seriously. Now with the medic alert bracelet, she shows them the bracelet and tells them she has a nut allergy. No one second guesses her now. In a... -
ARCHIVED Help With Daycare
gfgypsyqueen replied to gfgypsyqueen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you for all the advice. Unfortunately I was already running into small problems at the daycare, so the food incident was the last issue. No second chance. I am just furious that the people at that schoolwho the teachers do not get or care about the allergy issue. I know not all teachers are like this. We have had fantastic teachers with other children... -
ARCHIVED Help With Daycare
gfgypsyqueen replied to gfgypsyqueen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Too funny! My older child has an anaphylactic peanut/tree nut allergy. She had her initial anaphylactic reaction when we found out about the allergy and we have never had a second reaction. It's been almost 5 years. I mean, wwhat if the baby in daycare had an anaphylatic reaction. What would the answer be then???? So thanks to all my previous experience with...
