  1. I know you are going through a really hard time and wish you well. I haven't been dating in a while. But I can say that this disease would be an issue I would want to know about before I married someone. In a way, I think my spouse might have wanted to know about this issue before we got married. And Celiacs does affect their life too. So, in a way, knowing...
  2. Tell her to eat her favorite pizza, beer, and fried foods...lol... boy I miss those days... Seriously though good luck to her and the family. Sorry she has to wait so long...
  3. I have never been able to get the gluten-free food to be served correctly when I am at a hospital. Personally, I would freeze portion sized meals for her and DEMAND that the hospital handle it correctly. I would DEMAND a meeting with the head of the hospital and make it clear that a lawyer will be involved if Mom is served anything not provided by you, or...
  4. First, good luck trying to get pregnant and welcome to the board! Everyone has previous experience and tons of knowledge. In many discussions with non-celiac friends you are the person I feel the worst for. Someone with no bothersome symptoms but gets a postive diagnosis of Celiacs. Most of us have lost babies, lost weight or gained weight, but overall...
  5. Just wanted to say congrats! No more kiddos for me
  6. Mama2five, You really want to continue eating gluten until you see the gastro. The tests will not be accurate if you are not consuming gluten. Fluer, I know they say nursing prevents food allergies and ear tubes and all kinds of things, but both of my kids were nursed and both had severe colic and both have food allergies and ear tubes. I think...
  7. I skip it because of the Barley statement. I am too sensitive as it is. We use WestSoy Rice milk. We can't have nuts in the house, but I know some of the alternative milks are almond. Have you tried that one? I have also heard of Potato and hemp milks. They were talked about on this site. Potato is supposed to be closest to cows milk. Again I have not...
  8. This may seem a bit far fetched, but have you tried the local news station? Maybe the local news station would air a small story about your lost dog on the evening news. Not be to calous but a lost dog that ran away after a seizure, that pulls at heart strings which is what the news wants. Maybe they could help??? Thoughts are with you and Emma
  9. Celiacs is such a fun disease! Yes it sounds like you should be tested. Some people gain weight, some lose weight. Some have diarrhea, some get constipated. Acne getting worse makes sense. Your intestines are inflammed so you get acne, others get eczama. My child gets eczama so badly it wakes her up at night scratching it to the point of bleeding. That is...
  10. Thanks! So what herbs/medicines do you take to make everything normalize? I know it must be related to some slight glutening issue, but i can't connect the dots.
  11. Anyone else have varying levels of gluten reactions? I know when I've been seriously glutened. I practically pass out, vomit, diarrhea, etc. When I touch gluten, my hands break open and bleed. But sometimes I just have a nasty temper, which is not like me, with no other signs of gluten. Everything and everyone makes me really mad. Little issues really make...
  12. The endoscopy is not as bad as you think. Call the DR office and have them explain it to you in great detail - you'll feel better knowing exactly what will be happening. Express your concern about your last experince and see what they say. Some people opt to stay awake for the whole procedure, I couldn't handle that. From what I remember, you fast the...
  13. I know I joke that my internal thermometer is broken. Pre-diagnosis I was always too warm. Post-diagnosis when I get too hot I can't cool down quickly and when I get too cold it takes forever to warm up. I wear sweaters and bring light jackets in the summer in Florida because I get too cold. I would still get her thyroid checked. Mine always tested normal...
  14. Wow. Sorry it took you so long to find out about Celiacs. I think it averages 10 yrs for a diagnosis. When you go back for your follow up appointment you want to leave with a copy of the tests (blood work, biopsies, etc.) and the results. Lots of people on this site can help you interpret the results. Have them explain exactly what they tested/biopsied...
  15. Hi, I know you have to eat gluten for a biopsy, the debate is how long. Some people say 6 mths before you will see any damage that can be found in a biopsy. Gastric emptying, if it comes back delayed i.e., gastroparesis, ask about the meds and the side effects of them. Some of the meds really make me crazy. I refused to take them. Others only work...
  16. Hi, Yup I've got Gastorparesis too. I no longer take any of the meds for it though. Short background: After nuclear medicine tests revealed non functioning gallbladder (had pain too) and non-functioning stomach the Gastro recommended removing my gallbladder. Sometimes that helps the stomach... But not for me... I was on Reglan for my stomach emptying...
  17. Here's another thought: Is there any chance if sending him to a gluten-free camp this summer?? He'll be on his own, which he will like. Experience something different and cool than what he would do or see at home. But the added bonus is the peer pressure (Stick to gluten-free) and advice from the other kids at the camp. It might help him see the light of...
  18. Maybe he would be willing to talk to a therapist are the doctor, provided that you were not present of course. Whoever you have him talk to, make sure that they understand this disease, understand your position, and critically understand that even a touch or bite will make him sick. I duobt there is anything that you could say to change his mind as the...
  19. Sorry to hear you are going through that. Glad to hear you got the scope done though Keep yourself and your family healthy and don't worry about the sister and mom issues. As for family...it is impossible to understnad what they are thinking. Sometimes I think that they think Celiacs is contagious. Other times it seems like the parents feel guilty...
  20. Change the air filters in the house and do a thorough cleaning. Something like pollen might just be adding to the problem for you.
  21. Hi, Good luck to you and the kids. Sorry to hear you are having so many problems getting diagnosed, but the same thing happened to the rest of us. Like that helps with the frustration any As for your 20 yr old daughter, she is still eating gluten, you may want to go out for a good pizza and beer tonight. Figure that very likely tonight is her last...
  22. I don't know about the rest of you, but I get leary buying any fresh meat at my local grocery store (Publix). They have signs up about all of the meats, seafood, and deli meat may have come into conatct with the top 8 allergens are listed. I have talked to the managers I a feel confident about the safety of their food handling practices and that the sign...
  23. Thanks! Great reference article.
  24. I can't remember where I saw this information, but I thought there was some kind of a connection between celiacs or undiagnosed celiacs and miscarriages? Is that right or am I off my rocker??
  25. Thanks! That really makes me feel a lot better about it. I am trying to set up a suport group in our area (Fort Myers Florida) and gatehr all my info to have a 504 set up for the fall. Hopefully that will make next year run better
