  1. Sometimes I get reactions like that to severe stress. I have not had any possible gluten contamination, but my stress load is extremely high right now, and my bowels are a mess to put it mildly. Every day, foul smelly, floating, or pure liquid diarrhea. Amazing how your body reacts sometimes. Check your foods again just in case.
  2. The best advice is to buy little prepacked foods and buy as many foods that everyone can eat as possible. I only buy a few brands of cookies and cereals for the kids and they must be free of the kids allergens. I never buy gluten-free bread, rarely buy gluten-free waffles, and occassionally buy gluten-free pizza dough crusts. Pasta is always stocked. But...
  3. I am one of those people who just could not handle having the scope without being fully out. IMO, I was already seriously sick, felt terrible, and really confussed if I should hope they found celiacs or not. So for me, they knocked me out, did the procedure, I woke up and was told he thougt I had celiacs and start the diet the official results would be a...
  4. Hi, I just went there for a business trip. There is a PF Changs nearby. Outback, Bone Fish, but I didn't make it to those There is an area called KirkLand. It is on a lake. Nice walking, shopping, eating area. Third Floor Fish Cafe knew all about Celiacs. And there is another restaurant next to it on the water that was really great too. They also knew...
  5. Maye I am one of the lucky few...maybe I have a wheat allergy too...Maybe I am just hyper sensitive...who knows ...maybe I have some other new fun thing going on...BUT everytime I touch a gluten product, like bread, my hands break open and bleed. This has happened since I was first diagnosed with celiacs. My finger tips swell up and then burst along the cracks...
  6. My favorite stupid doctor comments: "Babies can't get Celiacs before age 3!" So I explained celiacs to him and never went back. "Can she eat beef? Yes, then she can't have a dairy allergy. Milk and beef both protein from cow, therefore if she can have one without a reaction she can't have a dairy allergy." Too dumfounded for words on that one. And...
  7. Hi, You might look into a 504 plan if the school isn't very helpful or understanding. I'm looking into it for the fall for other food allergies. Is a microwave an option at the school? (Sometimes that can be part of the 504). My youngest is a dipper - so chicken strips with ketchup, salad dressing, bbq, honey, anything to dip in. Stay hot Thermos for...
  8. I think how sick you are before diagnosis relates to how easy the diet is to follow. I was diagnosed in my 30's and I was very sick, had constant Dr appts and nothing made me feel better. After going gluten-free, I know how much better I feel, so I have no problem with the diet, but the people around me are not as supportive as I would have hoped. I think...
  9. I hope your childs teacher might see the fun side of food allergies (I try ) I really don't remember what foods we made in Home Ec, but it could turn into a great learning experience for the class. The class could have topics or discussions around cross contamination. They can make fun foods the kids would like to eat like homemade Twinkies and Ho-Ho's...
  10. I'd say two things help me the most. 1. a day at the beach either by myself or with a outgoing fun friend. It really clears my head and gets me more focused. 2. I used to have this really great romantic love story movie that I would watch. I would start out in a funk, cry my eyes out in the middle, and at the end of the movie I always felt better. Odd, but...
  11. That dress is gorgeous!!! Your going to look great!!! You got a steal of a deal on that one. It looks like it should be a lot more money!!! As for the coworkers, you know they are not friends, move on. They are not worth your time. Laugh about the fact you bought multiple dresses. Something silly that will make you laugh for years to come, like you just...
  12. Unsure where this post should go. Just started a new job and have the option to sign up for the flexible spending account. Normally I don't use this. In reading the paperwork it mentions typical items covered and these two caught my eye: "Food, organic, the excess cost for the person allergic to chemically treated food. Food, protein rich, the excess...
  13. Just wanted to say thank you for your service and good luck on your deployment.
  14. That's wonderful news!!!
  15. Thanks for all the advice! I really like this pediatrician. I am saying catch up on vaccines. But, atleast right now, I think the doctor and I are at an understanding about how the kids health is handled. He and I are a team. We talk and negotiate. It's kinda of funny really. Any way, yes, we will be doing the one at a time catch up. My bigger problem...
  16. I hear ya!!! My day dream is to become indepenantly filthy rich and have a personal gluten-free Chef! Let it be gluten-free and tasty too! Most importantly, let someone else cook once in a while!
  17. Thanks for all the replies. Sometimes I just need a reality check to make sure I am not going off the deep end with the everything affects allergy/celiac issues. Background: Older child has anaphylactic nut allergy. 2 yr old has no Allergist diagnosed allergies. She has a reaction to dairy and shellfish. Gastro agrees with Dairy reaction. He claims it...
  18. Hi, My 2 yr old is seriously behind on vacinations. She is due to go in next week to start getting her vacinations brought up to date. One of thereasons she is behind is because she hasn't been growing and hasn't been all that healthy. Now she is dairy free and starting to show signs of improvement, but still has issues. We are about to start a gluten...

    ARCHIVED Homeopath

LOVE EM!!!!!!! I have been to a Kinesiologist/herbalist. I love this lady. I went from being sick constantly, if someone got the cold, I got the flu. I have had more sicknesses than I care to admit to. I went to the herbalist after the baby (2 yrs ago) because the baby was having colic issues. A few drops for the baby and a bunch of vitamins and supplements...
  20. Hi, I am actually in the same position!! Weird! I have Celiacs. One child has severe nut allergy. My 2 yr old had growth and diarrhea, and rash problems, so we finally got the doctors to test her for Celiacs. Results inconclusive with one gene. Severe gastritis and other issues lead us to agree with the dr to take her off dairy. It has helped. But she...
  21. The holding it in due to painful poop is my kid too. After years of battles,we finally saw the link and removed milk. Low and behold, not another poop problem and no more meds for pooping normally. Now she proudly announces that "it didn't hurt a bit!" She poops as needed now. She used to hold poop for up to 5 or 6 days and along with that misery came the...
  22. Hi, I'm traveling on business soon too. It seems like such a big task to travel on business while eating gluten-free. Hope your trip goes well.
  23. Eating out can be soooo hard....and Orlando can be really hard when you don't know your way around. The breakfast buffet places are everywhere and can be hard to eat at for Celiacs. Maybe next trip people can give you recommendations to specific restaurants that are more accomodating...Sorry you had such a hard trip regarding the food. I spent many...
  24. Any chance she would be ok with the idea of you making a safe small cake and bringing it to the wedding?? I love Cherry Brooke Kitchen Chocolate cake mix. It comes Dairy free, Gluten free, egg rfee, and nut free and it tastes amazing!!!! Even my "normal" friends eat it and ask for seconds! Nice to have an understanding member of the family! Have fun at...
  25. Thanks for the replies. The really sad part is the child shows no signs of an ear infection and does not react normally to the pain of a rupture. I mean runny nose and not sleeping alone content through the night - those are her symptoms. That is it, then shocker, she gets a high fever and is unconfortable at night, eventually the ear drum burst and she settles...
