ARCHIVED Puppy Treat Question
gfgypsyqueen replied to jen2be2's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you have a speciality dog store near you they may have some treats. The store near me (a Dog Bakery) has jerky for dogs and many of them are gluten-free. They also stock organic dog foods that are gluten-free. They have bones too. Otherwise, my dogs will eat just about anything! So for training classes try human quality deli meat, jerky, cheese, bread... -
I'm so sorry. Waiting for the reaction to start is the worst. Your mom is miserable right now too. Maybe you would want to talk with your mom about when and how you want to try new foods? Feel better

My kids love this brand of milk! One kid only wants real milk. She hates all alternatives to milk. Even that child likes this English Bay brand milk!! -
ARCHIVED How "protective" Are You
gfgypsyqueen replied to vanillazeis's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am always trying to keep the obsessive part of me in check We have several allergies in different people. So the house is mixed. It is hard, but so far keeping everyone healthy is working. My 2 yr old has celiac, dairy allergy, and shellfish allergy. For her, she rarley gets fish or shellfish of any kind. Unless we catch the fish, she doesn... -
Jeez...isn't family grand! Glad to hear bil will be with your family first. Look at bringing in an afternoon helper (teenager) for the kids if you need a break. Hope he feels better soon. He'll appreciate the love from you and your family.

ARCHIVED We Feel Trapped In Our House! She's Soooo Sensitive!
gfgypsyqueen replied to Momof2cuties's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
In a short time your child will be just a little older a little better equipped to listen and follow rules. Two yrs old seems to be the magic year for my kids. One diagnosed with peanut/tree nut allergy at 2. The other diagnoised with celiac at 2. Fun! My gluten-free/CF daughter is 2.5yrs old and she gets mad when I say she can't have something (shared house... -
ARCHIVED Restaurants In Fort Myers, Florida Area
gfgypsyqueen replied to MaryJones2's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hi, Hope you enjoy the trip to Sanibel. I love it there. We eat at the Island Cow (Pretty sure that is the name). Usually they do well at keeping the basic meals gluten-free for me and the kids. It is a kid friendly place. Otherwise, I don't really get to Sanibel very much. We do have the standard gluten-free chains like PF Changs, Outback, Carabas,... -
ARCHIVED Answers For Celiac Baking Newbies
gfgypsyqueen replied to imsohungry's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Great topic! I've found that the flours all have their own flavors and cannot be interchanged without affecting the taste of the baked good. Sorgum flour tastes nutty to me. Ruined my chocolate chip cookies I've also learned that most gluten-free recipes need to sit for a few minutes after mixing (don't over mix). Somehow sitting helps the lumps... -
ARCHIVED Packing Lunch For A Picky 5 Yr Old
gfgypsyqueen replied to mama2two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Don't overlook the cool factor in your childs lunch box. My daughter informed me that the other kids were making fun of her lunches. (She has nut allergy. And eats home lunch everyday) At that point her only lunch option was rolled lunch meat in one baggie and bread in a separate baggie. I have no idea why, but that was her favorite. Now we make home lunchables... -
ARCHIVED New Here, Some Questions!
gfgypsyqueen replied to Wthrman13's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just because of your brother being a Celiac is enough of a reason for you to be tested. You should look into the gene test too. Keep in mind, do not stop eating gluten if you plan on getting a biopsy diagnosis. Continue eating normally until the bloodwork and the biopsy tests are completed. How is your brother doing on the diet? A lot of people going... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Think Triggered Celiac For You?
gfgypsyqueen replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Great topic! I was biopsy diagnosed after three years of active celiac problems. Drs said it was female problems, all in my head, and normal. WTF! I lost 50+ lbs, non-stop stomach problems, constantly ill, etc. All of my recent problems started just before I got pregnant. After the baby was born my health took a rapid decline. The fun part is that... -
ARCHIVED Gluten + Multiple Food Sensitivities; Can We Go Out To Eat Too?
gfgypsyqueen replied to gffamily's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Pam, I just wanted to add that I have been absolutely shocked by the people I run into who know about food allergies and how supportive they are. Some people are not all that helpful, but the majority of people and restaurants are very helpful. You might be shocked at the friends who will learn to cook something, even if it is just one safe meal... -
ARCHIVED Gluten + Multiple Food Sensitivities; Can We Go Out To Eat Too?
gfgypsyqueen replied to gffamily's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Pam, I think eating out is a state of mind, in a sense. I love to eat out. I refuse to let a disease take away that pleasure for me. That was my mindset years ago when I was first diagnosed. I had lived in a world where eating out was part of being social, visiting with friends, etc. Over the years my perspective has changed. I still eat out, but... -
ARCHIVED Ugh The School Just Ticked Me Off!
gfgypsyqueen replied to Nikki'smom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, I have a peanut/tree nut allergic child in elementary school and I have already had this battle....key is to be factual and not to get mad in front of them. Very hard but it works in your favor. Bring any paperwork that would be informative and leave copies. Step 1. Research the 504 plan. You can have your child declared a 504. The short version is... -
ARCHIVED Ok Need Help Again With Symptoms
gfgypsyqueen replied to Melmelsmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You might want to ask about having the rash biopsied. That will decide if it is DH or not. I have been unable to get an oficial diagnosis for my youngest, but she is better and has no rash on the gluten-free diet. Accidental gluten and the rash comes right back. The nausea comes and goes. Find her comfort food. For me it is plain rice or rice and soy... -
ARCHIVED Pre-tested Newbie With Lots Of Questions
gfgypsyqueen replied to SwirlyGirly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi and welcome to the world of gluten free! Glad to hear you are feeling better on the diet. Here are a few more tidbits of info. First, call al lof the manufacturers of the products that you use daily like makeup, bath products, creams, lotions, etc. Ask if the products are gluten free or label for gluten. I react to contact, some people do and some don... -
ARCHIVED My 5yr Old Son's Diagnosis
gfgypsyqueen replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Another option is to look into the Entero Labs diagnosis. It is less invasive than a biopsy and you do not need a dr to request the test. That might give you the "solid" proof you are looking for. Does your son have any symptoms of Celiacs? If yes, try the diet. If no, I would get the Entero Labs test and wait for those results to make my decision. -
I would hate to swear off of a restaurant unless it is an extremely chronic problem. Maybe for your trip call ahead and talk to management? Do the interview the chef game? Kind a fun... anyways some chefs get it but the staff is still clueless. Some chefs aren't that understanding of allergies at all...still just people. Maybe for your trip find of what foods...

ARCHIVED Is It Easy To Get Someone That Actually Understands Us?
gfgypsyqueen replied to shimo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In a way your are lucky that you were not married-easier to break up with a girl friend than divorce a spouse (emotionally both are hard). I think my spouse would have preferred to know about the "crazy food issues" before we got married. Believe it or not, I have friends who are far more lovingly supportive of celiacs and food allergies than my spouse. Non... -

ARCHIVED Foot And Groin Pain - Food Intolerance
gfgypsyqueen replied to katie67's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don;t know if the symptoms you described are necessarily gluten or celiac disease related, but they are probably food related. I also have a severe nut allergy child and another child that was not growing or sleeping although she ate non-stop. Drs saw no reason for concern in my kids. The short version is the oldest has the nut allergy and many many... -
ARCHIVED Trouble With Healing - Could It Be Celiacs?
gfgypsyqueen replied to Energy Seeker's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Entero Labs might be a lower cost option for getting a celiac test without the scope. I've tested blood negatve, biopsy positve to Celiacs. Always had shockingly low iron and gastro problems of all sorts. Some celiacs never get an official diagnosis-the blood work is questionable and the biopsy never showed enough damage to call it celiacs. You may be... -
ARCHIVED Behavior Question
gfgypsyqueen replied to gfgypsyqueen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for all the ideas. I knew this group would have good thoughts and ideas, well at least all but one Anyway, the dogs are actually only fed once a day and the bowls are only down long enough for them to scarf the food down. When I wrote this post originally it was becasue the dogs had new food and were not eating as quickly as normal. She was coloring... -
ARCHIVED What Type Of "milk" To Drink?!
gfgypsyqueen replied to jewi0008's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My super picky "real Milk" loving child loves "English Bay Original" it a potato milk. My little chocoholic sillyhead loves "Manitoba Harvest" Hemp Bliss-choclate flavor! We also use WestSoy Rice milk for baking. None of them will brink a glass of it!
