  1. Hi, She had a celiac intestinal biopsy done a few months ago. Promethius labs did the analysis, so I trust the results being inconclusive. Same lab did the blood work and gene tests. Currently she eats what I would call low gluten. I am gluten-free. She usually eats my meals when we eat out. I try to buy dairy free food that is also at least gluten...
  2. I know I have seen eucharist holders or containers for sale in the past. I thought ener-G or some company made gluten-free hosts and sold a container so the priest never actually touches it. Google Eucharist container? Or call the local religious store and ask them to special order one for you. I know they exist, but I can't remember where I saw it. Congrats...
  3. Hi kbtoyssi, The gastro who diagnosed me I would trust with my life. He was excellent! But we no longer live in that area. The Gastro that my daughter goes to is good, but we have a hard relationship. Literally heated debates at the appts. It is strange. So, I listen and we discuss, but I do not fully believe his diagnosis. Our latest debate is to get...
  4. Hi, I know this is not specifically celiac related, but I have a 2 yr old with a problem and this is the most medically knowledgable group of people I have ever known! So I am hoping ANYONE can add some advice and maybe something will work. My 2 yr old just got ear tubes. The reason for the ear tubes was a recurring severe ear drum perforating...
  5. Hi, Just wanted to chime in that my 2 1/2 yr old is dairy free and when we make a mistake the eczama comes right back along with wild behavior. She doesn't whine much, but does not listen and does not settle. So it is an exhausting 4 days for us, We found that after four days the eczema goes away and she starts to get back to normal. BTW it took us about...
  6. I have to say...I wouldn't want this doctor doing any kind of testing on me! Anemia he should be knowledgable about. Seriously, cancel the appt and find a new doc! Maybe there is a local Celiac that could recommend a dr who knows a bit more about Celiacs?? Sounds like your sister needs an extremely knowledgable Gastro and Internist to start narrowing...
  7. Hi Kudja, First that's great that you adopted him! Sounds like he has a great home and loving mama! Keep doing what you think is best for your son. Incomplete medical history is just part of adopted children's lives both when they are kids and when they grow up. I think that is one of the hard parts of adoption - no medical history or family issues to...
  8. Whattodo, How are you doing? Any of the posts helping you think it through? I have to say that I like tarnalberries strong gluten challenge idea. If you are going to go off the diet, do a strong challenge and take notes before and after the challenge. That might be the best answer for you. Hope you are feeling a little better.
  9. Glad you found the reason for the mystery rash. Amazing what "healthy whole grain" foods can do to a body huh! Hope you start feeling better soon.
  10. I really don't know what to call normal stools, especially for kids. I think it sometimes relates to what they have eaten...too much constipating foods vs too many fruits type of thing. Sometimes the consipating or diarrhea food is just something that gives that child a problem. If your child has lots of runny stools, try the bananas and yogurt trick...
  11. I would camp out in an good Italian bakery. I used to go to one in LIttle Italy in Boston. Canolis (sp?) I still dream about their food... I would eat all day every meal - baked goods. Then a true Italian restaurant for ravioi, canaloni, fettuccini cabonera, lasagna, Then real NY pizza. Not a franchise. The real stuff. Then bagels and cream cheese...
  12. I have no idea where I heard this tidbit, but I heard that your body, in a sense, craves what it cannot process. Like more of the stuff will make your body figure it out. I ate excessive amounts of nuts while nursing my first child (and I was also sick with undiagnosed celiacs) and she now has a severe nut allergy. You would think I would have learned, but...
  13. Hi Whattodo, I understand your frustration and hope things work out and you find the source of the problem. In the end, staying on this diet is a choice-even for those of us with a positive diagnosis. Personally, I would never follow this diet if I did not have serious health issues and consequences that brought me here. So I understand, especially about...
  14. I think the rice flour add the grit factor. Try substituting other flours. I think the Soy or Fava bean flour added a subtle nutty flavor to nut free cookies. You might want to experiment with more non-traditional cookies. You'll have less to compare the taste of the gluten-free vs regular. Happy baking!
  15. I like the bionature pasta. Tastes normal even to non-celiac family. Personally, I buy the packaged foods out of convenience - not for taste. The homemade breads, cakes, pizzas taste much better. Maybe once he starts feeling better he will be willing to eat more. He eats a pretty bland diet. Maybe his tummy is just really sore and he doesn't realize...
  16. Go take a test...you might be pregnant enough already :0) ISome of those tests work pretty early in your cycle. Besides, if negative, have more sex and check again in a few days... Have fun starting a family ;o)
  17. I understand why that "just really bothers" you! That story got squashed by the higher ups in news broadcasting. I check the news often and never heard or saw a thing about this, but I am on the other coast. I guess the general public can't start distrusting the 911 dispatchers or their local hospitals. That is absolutely terrible. Makes you wonder...
  18. I believe that to legally call something VEGAN it cannot have any part coming from an animal. At least that is what I have been told and have found to be true. The Casein found in Vegan products is vegetable based. I think from beets?? I have no idea how that works, but Vegan cheese even with the vegetable Casein has not caused a problem for us. My child...
  19. I love kinesiologists! It's so nice to have the brain fog leave! When you find a good K, they are great! I felt sooo much better after going to one who put me on the right mix of herbals and supplements. Sometimes you do need an adjustment on the supllements. Some brands are gluten-free, but they really just bothered me. No idea why. If possible, call...
  20. family is such fun! There will always be some kind of issue with family members who just don't get it! They don't mean to hurt your feelings, but that's family... I used to make a flourless choclate cake to take to peoples houses. Add fresh whipped cream and fruit. It was to die for! That way dessert was gluten-free and peanut free. A dairy allergy eliminated...
  21. I hate to say it, but you just have to wait it out. But while you are waiting, check and recheck every product you consume or use on your body. Cosmetics, toothpaste, lotions, foods, drinks, etc. You may find something you didn't realize contained gluten.
  22. You might want to look into it for test taking purposes. BTW, It is doubtful that your school had a policy on Celiacs. The 504 does apply to celiacs and food allergies in a public institution. Private schools handle it differently. Most people have never heard of Celiacs although that is getting better. I can't imagine getting accidentily glutened prior to...
  23. Hi Jody, Did they do a biopsy and that is what came back positive for celiacs? If so, you have Celiacs. The biopsy is the gold standard test. If the biopsy is poistive, you have celiacs. The blood work is frequently false positive and false negative. Blood work is usually the first test done too. My blood work was negative but the biopsy was positive...
  24. Hi and welcome. Wow you have a lot going on. 1. do you want a diaper wipe recipe that will help your daughter? This recipe is great. Let me know if it doesn't make sense. Anothe rperk is it is cheaper than buying wipes!! Mix 2 cups water, 1 T baby soap (liquid), 2T baby oil. Cut a paper towel roll in half (so you have two short rolls.) I used to use a...
  25. Get a second opinion. Find someone else who can personally recommend a Gastro in your area- preferably one who knows about Celiacs The 504 plan can be used in the colleges, but it may not be necessary. Like you said you will be living in the soroity house and it is managed differently. A 504 is used mainly for special needs when things at school need...
