ARCHIVED Absent From School
gfgypsyqueen replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I believe the form you are looking for is called a "504". It is used for people with special needs and does cover Celiacs. This form provides legal protect for your child in the school system. The your doctor, school district, or a lawyer should be able to tell you where to get this form and what information needs to be provided. -
ARCHIVED Lets See Who Can Answer This One?
gfgypsyqueen replied to whattodo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The numbness in the face and sensation of shaking hands without them actually shaking is concerning. I would have to say go get checked out by a doctor - nuero would be best. Celiacs symptoms can be pretty strange, but when it comes to nerves acting strangly I would go make sure you haven't found some other diisease that you body is battling. -
ARCHIVED My Doctor Doesn't Believe Me
gfgypsyqueen replied to Ellie2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In my opinion, you know something is wrong with you, therefore you are not a hypocondriac. Find a doctor who will blood test, gene test, endoscopy until they get you feeling normal again. Also look into Entero labs for alternate testing if needed. FYI: Pregnancy can bring on symptoms of celiacs that were liveable or dormant for years. It did for me... -
ARCHIVED Kitchen Aide Stand Mixer
gfgypsyqueen replied to mairin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I would say look for higher watts - you can always order any color. The wattage is the power of the machine. Smaller watts and you will burn out that engine. Our doughs can be pretty dense. Go to a Williams Sonoma,a high end Kitchen supply store, or call kitchen aide to learn about the machines and what it will do for you. The point is to get someone knowledgable... -

ARCHIVED Lunch And Snack Suggestions?
gfgypsyqueen replied to bnsnewman's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If there is any food that your child likes for dinner, try to pack it for lunch. Mac and cheese never traveled well for us. deli meat, crackers, sliced cheese. (all separate for us no foods can touch!!) Jello, fruit cups, apple sauce, pudding homemade cup cakes pizza - maybe he'll eat it cold? chips and salsa or cheese dip We made a big... -
ARCHIVED Irritability, Crabbiness
gfgypsyqueen replied to Sheriinwi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Major mood swings, depression, crabbiness is polite for me. The sensitivity to touch is what really sets me off. Hug, don't rub. What I find helps is benedryl at the beggining of the reaction. It calms down some of the side effects for me. I think it might be the forced sleep too. Then I steer clear of everyone and try really hard to bite my tongue and... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Home
gfgypsyqueen replied to sara78's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We have multiple food allergies in our house. I am the Celiac. As an adult, I can keep myself safe easier than the kids with their allergies. So we do not have a gluten-free house. We do have strict rules about how foods are made, placed in the kitchen, etc. I have a gluten-free collander and metal slotted spoon. All teflon, wooden utensils, wooden cutting... -
ARCHIVED Pregnant - Got Glutened
gfgypsyqueen replied to Guhlia's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Benedryl helps me sometimes. I am not sure if it is the forced deep sleep, or the calming of the inflamation? Maybe Motrin if dr approves?? -
ARCHIVED Chinese? Can I, Cant I
gfgypsyqueen replied to jambo massive's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I loved Chinese food too before diagnosis. I ate it a couple times a week if I could. Now it is not so much fun. PF CHangs is a great chain restaurant in the US that has a gluten-free menu and gluten-free soy sauce. Maybe they have a branch in England?? Maybe a similar upscale chinese franchise? I still go to my local chinese restaurant, but I bring... -

ARCHIVED Travel Suggestions By Plane...
gfgypsyqueen replied to mrsnj91's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Another option is to look into a Whole Foods market in Orlando, maybe some other healthfood stores. Get on map qwest and see if they are close enough to stop there when you arrive to resupply for the trip to Disney. We went to Disney recently and had a great gluten-free and allergy reaction free time!!! Gotta love Disney! If you don't want to stand out... -
ARCHIVED Safe Meats?
gfgypsyqueen replied to kyliekatiesmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I found out about my Celiacs almost four years ago and have yet to find a support group in my area. I we have moved too. This site is full of very knowledgable celiacs. Ask all your questions. People are always willing to help I am not sure about Canada, but in the US, generally you find a good healthfood store and they can help you get started. Sometimes... -
ARCHIVED How To Handle Kids At Banquets
gfgypsyqueen replied to confused's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would call ahead and talk to the food manager or the chef. I would talk to them in a way that makes it clear, they will accomodate your child or you will be bringing all the food you want with you. They can't tell you not to bring food if they cannot provide safe food. (And I am not sure I would trust them to provide safe food, but that is just me ) If... -
Yes I know better and should have called first. But....I was hungry and in a rush..... I had bought the Jimmy Dean breakfast bowl (eggs, bacon, and cheese) for a quick and easy breakfast. I have not had a chance to call them yet. I thought Jimmy Dean had good labeling practices and there were no gluten items listed in the label. There was something suspect...

ARCHIVED Mac & Cheese

I buy the frozen gluten-free mac and cheese from Amy's. I love it. I gave up trying to buy a gluten-free box mix. Maybe you'll have better luck. -

ARCHIVED Need Help With Other Allergies!
gfgypsyqueen replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, Sorry to hear your little one is having such troubles. Mine is also unable to tolerate milk from birth. We spent the last year or so battling blistered diaper rashes, lack of growth, constantly hungry, and being told every imaginable line from doctors (like she is just petite, you can't get Celiacs under age 3!!! and others). Finally she has been tested... -
ARCHIVED Introducing Solid Foods To Baby - Cereal Issues?
gfgypsyqueen replied to RiceFiend's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have celiacs (biopsied positive). My first child has a nut allergy - so we don't have the best gene pool With the second baby I knew I was a celiac and had problems with the baby everytime I got glutened while pregnant, which happened at least 5 times. She was born and had colic and never tolerated formula well. Nursing didn't work so hot with the... -
So sorry you are feeling so crappy. Yes, I've been there in the "this sucks!!!!!" times. Cross-contamination is a *&%#@!!!!! Everytime I turn around I find crumbs on the counters, on the sofa, on the scale at the DELI COUNTER (That made me so mad. Had to leave without my lunch meat for the week!!!) I just wanted to add a few thoughts. Maybe it will...

I use Panteene and Suave products. I am also one of those people who has a contact reaction to gluten. I don;t know how or why, but I know when I touch gluten products like bread my hands break open, swell, and bleed. When I used to dye my hair, I too had all kinds of problems after. For some reason, foil highlights works well for me. I think it is because...

ARCHIVED Handling Bread Dough?
gfgypsyqueen replied to EVERYBODY'SAUNTIE's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been told and read it on this site that you CANNOT have a reaction from gluten on your skin. That being said, it kills me!! My hands crack open and bleed and my finger tips swell when I handle wheat/Gluten. I found out maybe a month after my diagnosis that I had this reaction becuase I thought I could touch wheat, but wash my hands and I would be fine... -
I am really the only one who gets the "must be a celiac thing" write off from the doctors?? I would actually love to hear that I am the only one that this happens to, but sadly I doubt that is true. I know regular family doctors don't know a whole lot about Celiacs. I understand that. I know my gastro even said I would know more about this disease in...

ARCHIVED What Do I Do Now?
gfgypsyqueen replied to Electra's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Some people seem to have a good response going to Entero labs (sp?) especially when they can't get a diagnosis from blood and biopsy. You might want to look into this if you feel you really have to have diagnosis. Have you had her allergy tested? Maybe she is allergic to something in addition to having the DH or skin rashes? My child (2yr old) ended...
