  1. Awsome news! I know how excited you are!!! When my youngest finally started to gain weight I was so excited I told everybody I know. MOst of them thought I was nuts, and even after explaining celiacs and food allergies and all the issues, most of the people think I am slightly touched in the head! hahahaha i don't care. Just great to see your kids make a...
  2. As for the trip to Hawaii: pack your food for the plane. They have really cute soft coolers that look like tote bags now. Get a letter from the dr if you need to. Pack, sandwiches, fruit, scones, chips and dip, pretzles, all gluten-free of course. I am not found of sandwiches any more, so I make a sliced meat, salsa, and veggies mix. It fills me up and tastes...
  3. I don't know the exact time frame, but I would think you should see a big difference within two weeks to a month.
  4. Have a great vacation. Naples has a PF CHang's - Yum. Fort Myers is just north of Naples. There is a great health food store - Ada's- on US 41 near Colonial. The store is huge and they stock a lot of gluten-free foods!
  5. Hi DarkIvy, Glad to hear you had the biopsy done. The wait for the results seems to take forever. If you have problems with college or the house regardign your gluten-free diet, look into getting a 504 plan. It can mandate how the school will address your diet and issues that go along with it like housing. I've had that radioactive test done. It sounds...
  6. Do you have an allergist that you go to for the shellfish allergy? If so, call them and ask about the iodine. I do not know how the shellfish and iodine are related, but I would check before taking the meds. My child has a shellfish allergy and the anesthiologist was very concerned about the shellfish allergy and the iodine. To the point that I think...
  7. That is great news!!!! Glad to hear doggy is okay and home!!!
  8. I would see about gettign to a chiropractor today. Soemtimes they can really help with the pain. Good luck on finals.
  9. Ankle and leg swelling can be signs of heart disease. Please go see your regular dr and be checked out. I do not think this can be related to Celiacs.
  10. I would say since your child does not have an anaphylactic (immediate and potentailly deadly) reaction to gluten don't get too paranoid. So set up strick rules. Wash hands after going to a playground. Depending on age - nothing in the mouth unless from parents and hands are clean. Eat and drink only from clean surfaces.... Celiacs doesn't mean kids can...
  11. I don't know the scientific reason for the depresion. I always assumed it had to due with poor absorption of minerals and with chemicals not being produced for the brain. I found it helpful to list everything that was going on in my life and all of my health problems when I got diagnosed. Then after being on the diet a month or two go back and re-read...
  12. The idea of my child flying alone would make me extremely uneasy too. However, call the airlines and discuss their unattended child programs in detail. You may find you only have a few airlines you feel truely comfortable with or you may find that all of them work well for you. I have no idea what the unattended child policy is. But young kids do fly alone...
  13. I am also not so trusting of Drs or specialists or the test results... everything seems to be open to interpretation... We had good experiences with a kinesiologist/herbalist. They do muscle testing to see if the herbs are good for your body and in what amount. Again, some are better than others, so see if you can get a recommendation. My youngest...
  14. You just described my reactions! Want to be held, but also feel the need to crawl out of my own skin. Absolutely nothing helps me to calm down. Everything seriously agitates me. The quick temper and agitation seem to take forever to go away. I could deal with the intestinal problems, but the skin thing and agitation just drive me crazy. I take motrin and...
  15. Sounds fine to me
  16. Wow! Sorry you are having so many problems with him. Sounds like he is pretty pissed off that he has this crappy disease. I remember the previous posts about the trouble he was causing. How old is he again? Not trying to overstep boundaries but, what does his Dad say about his behaviour? What about his Mom? Is any of his behaviour just because you are the...
  17. Hi Kbabe1968, I think food allergies are just a really weird area. No one in my family or extended family has food allergies. We have some environmental allergies, but who doesn't. I had never even considered food allergies as something to learn about "just in case". But my oldest had a first reaction to pb cookies be an anaphylactic reaction. We had...
  18. I know I was told not to have the baby tested for Celiacs immediately since I have it (Mom) she would also test positive for it as a newborn and probably while nursing. I have two pieces of advice: One is for mama not to eat anything excessively while pregnant and while nursing. Watch the baby's reactions to different foods mama eats while nursing....
  19. Disney is very allergy friendly. We have gone many times with a peanut/tree nut allergy and a celiac and never had a problem. If you are making reservations for character meals or anything like that, make the reservations now and tell them about the gluten-free/allergies. The chef's will probably call you or check if you should call them. The park also...
  20. Cherry Brooke Kitchen makes the most amazing chocolate cake mix. It is easy and great. No one knows it is a gluten-free cake. I think they have a vanilla cake mix too. The cakes are gluten-free, egg free, dairy free, and nut free. (Even my picky child who is not a celiac devours these cakes!) The frosting is easy. Use Crisco shortening (I use the pre-measured...
  21. hahahaha that's great! What a funny kid!
  22. Hi, My daughter has the worst rash on her feet and ankles. I know she gets this as a reaction to milk. Who knows maybe it is a reaction to more. We see an allergist soon. Meanwhile, she got a hold of yogurt and is now having a reaction. She gets a terrible itchy, red, blistered rash on her feet and ankles. I assume this is eczema. The cortizone cream...
  23. When we travel, I pack an ice chest or two depending on the trip. One cooler has drinks and the other food. I make tuna salad, chicken and salsa with veggies, potato salad, fruits, chips and dip. pretty much anything that I would normally eat for lunch is packed into a cooler. Have a great time and good luck at the comptetion.
  24. Glad to hear things are sounding positive. But seriously, start documenting EVERYTHING. The number of times you speak to people and when and what about etc. Stay in contact with the grievance person etc. Sorry to hear you are having so many problems. Poor mom. Hopefully she is feeling better.
  25. Yup. You'll see a big difference in the way you feel. Sorry you couldn't get a diagnosis though. FYI: now when you eat gluten or come in contact with it, you will start having pretty bad reactions. I was shocked at how quickly I had bad gluten reactions. Glad to hear you are feeling better.
