ARCHIVED Ignorant Relative.....
gfgypsyqueen replied to LoveBeingATwin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I get that from my husband! Gain a few pounds, just eat a pizza and there goes the weight. Nice huh! Family sucks sometimes! Eventually they wake up. Glad to hear you explained life and included the little -stop eating the junk food and eat healthier and you too can drop some pounds. Perfect! -
ARCHIVED 8 Yr Old With Celiac
gfgypsyqueen replied to c5land's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It seems the beginning of the school year is the worst time for my kid too. She has a nut allergy so she is the odd ball at school lunch too. She can't have the school lunch so that hurts her feelings too. She also came home one day not in tears but pretty close. Turns out some kids were teasing her becasue she couldn't have PB&J and couldn't believe... -
Congrats on your diagnosis. After feeling crappy for so long you are on your way to feeling better! Some people have had lots of luck with dieticians. I am not one of them. Never found a good dietician yet. Sorry. I used to laugh that you have to go through the stages of grief after diagnosis. Anger, denial, ...eventually acceptance. Then you are off...

ARCHIVED Feedback Will Be Greatly Appreciated
gfgypsyqueen replied to bluewave's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, I'm not sure about the cramping and sports related issues and how those might fit in to the big picture. What do you mean a stomach scan? The "gold standard" for Celiac diagnosis is a biopsy of the intestines. It sounds awful but it is not painful. They are looking for damage to the villi in the intestines. Dental issues, soft teeth, etc can... -
ARCHIVED Parkinson's--a Celiac Connection?
gfgypsyqueen replied to elye's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for the info! Good article. My dad, with Parkinsons, was actually interested in hearing more about the gluten-free diet and what it would take for him to try it - just to see if it helped. That is a huge change of mindset for him! -
ARCHIVED Dr Is Suggesting Invasive Tests-----need Advice
gfgypsyqueen replied to dinali63's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think it is hard to make the decision to subject your child to the scope. It seems horrible, but it easy. If you really have a hard time with the idea of a scope look into EnteroLabs. In reality, I have my youngest scoped just prior to her 2nd b-day. The results were inconclusive. They did a gene test too. She has one of the genes for celiacs. So, after... -
ARCHIVED Need Advice From Parents
gfgypsyqueen replied to akflboyd's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Strict avoidance of all forms of dairy makes a big difference in my kid too. She is gluten-free/CF since August. I don't know much about OCD, but the eval might be worth it. Just to rule things out? Any chance additives and chemicals are causing problems for her? As in, try 100% pure organic no chemical no additive foods that are gluten-free/CF. You will... -
ARCHIVED Making The Whole Family gluten-free?
gfgypsyqueen replied to moonlitemama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have a mixed house too. My spouse refusses to consider a entire house being gluten-free. It was hard enough to get the house nut free. It is hard at times. I throw out the dish sponge after pasta night! We don't have pasta much. I use a handled scrubber to do dishes. Then dishes go through dishwasher. Gluten foods are eaten at the table and no place else... -
ARCHIVED Definite Link Between Celiac And Premature Labor?
gfgypsyqueen replied to Marjorie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have to agree that there is a connection! I am very careful about being gluten-free and still I got glutened at least three times while pregnant. Every time it was something stupid - like accepting food from a celiac and then finding out it had spelt in it!!!!! That one was really bad. Everytime the baby would flip out for an entire day after I was glutened... -
ARCHIVED Parkinson's--a Celiac Connection?
gfgypsyqueen replied to elye's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Maybe I am off the topic here, but anyone else curious why most of the posters stated that their father had parkinsons. How come it is so many fathers? Does Parkinsons affect men more than women? I have Celiacs. My fathers family has autoimmune diseases, but the mention that he could possibly benefit from this crazy diet starts one heck of a fight. Amazing... -
ARCHIVED Toddler With Celiac And Food Allergies
gfgypsyqueen replied to mom with gf toddler's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
LOL...I totally agree. The Celiac diet I can handle. The Nut allergy I have gotten used to. But the Dairy allergy kicks my butt. Then throw in shellfish and it is just pure fun... Can't wait to see what else is coming our way.... It is livable. And your son will grow and do well on gluten-free/CF. The rest we can hope and pray he out grows -
ARCHIVED Toddler With Celiac And Food Allergies
gfgypsyqueen replied to mom with gf toddler's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yup my kids have food allergies. One is anaphylactic to nuts, but not a celiac. As a result the other child has never had a nut. The second child has celiacs and dairy allergy and shellfish allergy. Her allergies are not anaphylactic, but I still have the TwinJect with me at all times. She reacts to trace levels and contamination. Yes it is scary. The... -
ARCHIVED Atopic Eczema And Celiac Disease
gfgypsyqueen replied to Krystens mummy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think it is very hard to get good test results on kids so young. If you think it is related to gluten, do a gluten challenge and see what happens. that is your best test right now for that age (10 mths). If the rash does not completely go away, try removing all trace levels of dairy. My daughter has had a terrible rash since she was an infant. They... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Ready To Eat Meals From Hormel
gfgypsyqueen posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, I live in a hurricane evacuation zone, so I am always looking for ready-to-eat meals for our evacuation kit. In light of the fires out west, thought some people might appreciate the additional convenience food option. I just saw these ready to eat meals from Hormel and thought they would work great for evacuations or emergency lunches at school... -
ARCHIVED 504 Info
gfgypsyqueen replied to confusedks's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't have time to find the info right now. But here is what I would do. Search this site and the web. Get bullet points. Keep info brief and grouped into bullets so they can scan the page to get info rather than reading tons of info. 1 in 133 have the disease. Last I heard 1 in 4500 get a diagnosis in the US. List the items that gluten is found in... -
ARCHIVED Just Started Gluten Free Diet - Help/advice Wanted!
gfgypsyqueen replied to Krayon's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi, I'm not sure what products you have in Scotland. I use Hershey's cocoa powder (not a mix) nad add the milk and sugar. Tastes great! BioNature is my favorite pasta. My kid likes Glutino best. As for breads...start learning to bake bread. Few of the store bought breads are worth the money. Glutino crackers are great, expensive, but really good. Try Glutenfreepantry... -
Send the dishes and pots and pans through the dishwasher. I wouldn't replace them. I would get a separate collander, plastic slotted spoons and spaghetti spork utensils. Any thing that has hard to clean areas should be dedicated gluten-free. If the plastic plates and bowls are scratched replace them. Get a gluten-free toaster and a gluten-free toaster...

ARCHIVED What To Do Next?
gfgypsyqueen replied to Lizking531's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you tried taking Ensure or something like that? It might help with nutrients. Talk to the dr and call the manufacturer about the meds. See if they are gluten-free and if that side effect is acceptable. About going back to gluten-free. Were you gluten-free before but not now? Many of us have negative scopes but still feel considerably better on the... -
ARCHIVED Do You Suspect Celiac In Your Child?
gfgypsyqueen replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Don't beat yourself up or feel guilty about it taking so long to get a diagnosis for your son. You are not a dr, you are a parent doing the best you can. At least your son sees such a difference in his health you probably wont have to fight too much to keep him on the diet. My parents wouldn't have me tested for Celiacs when I was a child and having regular... -
ARCHIVED I Have Hope Again!
gfgypsyqueen replied to shan's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Here's my two cents...not like you asked for it, but hey... I assume you or a family member has celiacs? Your child is almost one and having issues. I would make the Drs rule out diseases through testing. Rule out celiacs through endoscopy or EnteroLabs. Until they provide test results to indicate something is negative, I would not take their word for... -

I also lost my job after fighting through the celiacs diagnosis. I had a great boss, but my ability to perform my job suffered significantly. I found it very helpful to pursue hobbies that I "never have enough time for". My passion for my job was gone, but I was developing my passion about other topics. Eventually, my job became better and more interesting... -

ARCHIVED Glutened At Hair Salon
gfgypsyqueen replied to ginghamkim's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Technically you can't glutened unless you consume the product containing gluten. That is the official response. In actuallity, I get sick from contacting gluten. I do not have DH. I probably have a contact allergy to wheat in addition to celiacs. Who knows. The point is, when I touch gluten my hands break open and bleed. When I have used hair products containing... -
ARCHIVED Public School Lunch And Celiac
gfgypsyqueen replied to LuvMySon's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If the Principal is new, schedule a meeting. Bring in all of the paperwork. Explain Celiacs. Explain the bread is AWFUL unless heated. Explain and educate. Explain how it worked in the past. Then start talking about how the Principal wants to handle things. Maybe some legal reason has changed so that your kid cannot have his lunch heated in the lunch room... -
ARCHIVED 9 Month Old - Horrible Rashes
gfgypsyqueen replied to jaimek's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter started having problems at 9mths too. How is your child doing on the growth charts? Still going upward or at least maintaining in the height and weight percentages? Keep an eye on these. For my daughter we knew almost immedately that she couldn't tolerate any dairy. It took until her second bday to realize she can't handle trace levels of...
