ARCHIVED Confused
gfgypsyqueen replied to bendano's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter is 2.5 yrs old. I had a hard time getting a dr to consider Celiacs even though I have it. In the end, the biopsy was inconclusive. Sounds like the same answer you got "abnormal". Mine is also allergic to dairy. I find Dairy to be harder to eliminate than Gluten. Maybe it is becasue I have gluten-free for so long. Anyway, initially she was made... -
ARCHIVED Freezing Gluten Free Pasta
gfgypsyqueen replied to sammers1's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I haven't had any luck freezing gluten-free pasta. Maybe others have had better luck? -
ARCHIVED Packing A Lunch Vs. School Lunches?
gfgypsyqueen replied to darkmindead's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well sounds like you have a house full of Celiacs! That makes it easier. Please ignore my previous post about getting tested and not forcing the diet on someone. I've had to do battles with the school system over severe food allergies. Call the School District Office and find out who is in charge of policies regarding food allergies and see if they have... -

ARCHIVED Packing A Lunch Vs. School Lunches?
gfgypsyqueen replied to darkmindead's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Couple of things: I personally don't think the county school district will be able to make 100% gluten-free non-CC'd food. From our experience, asking a school that in our case feeds close to 2000 kids adn teachers to feed my kid a perfectly safe meal is pretty risky. I pack my daughter's meals every day. They requested "cool" lunches, so we do that.... -
ARCHIVED Horrible Reaction & Thanksgiving Is Coming
gfgypsyqueen replied to seaking's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Seaking, I have terrible reactions too. I am very sensitive and so is my kid. It's a entire body reaction and it SUCKS! The residual reaction stuff lasts the week. My "mild" reactions involve terrible mood swings which last for days. So much fun!! I get contact reactions too. The full reaction has me dizzy, vommiting, passing out, along with the standard... -
Since you have had celiac disease for so long and knowingly cheat, it's time to take a hard look at why. When do you knowingly cheat? With family, friends, on a date, or just hungry and no other choices available? Do you cheat over a certain food? Pizza and beer? Pizza would be my downfall. But I get so sick it is not an option to cheat. I think many of us...

ARCHIVED Need Non-food Ideas For A Birthday With The School Class
gfgypsyqueen replied to cruelshoes's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Although the teacher may hate you, go with the Whoopie Cushions in a goodie bag of candy (main stream candy of course). The kids will love it...even the girls. It'll be a huge hit and lots of laughing and fun. If you want a really cool bday at school, that's it! (Maybe a sympathy present for the teacher...a few really good chocolates) Hope he has a great... -

ARCHIVED How Was Your Halloween?
gfgypsyqueen replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
They were Ariel and a butterfly princess. Too cute! They had a blast!!! The only sad faces came when we sorted the candy. So much candy went to the office!!! But I refilled the bags with safe treats so all is good in the world again!! School parties went well. Allergy and gluten safe snacks sent in to share. No reactions and lots of fun. Life is good! -
ARCHIVED Communion
gfgypsyqueen replied to Virgie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You may want to start talking to the pastor or priest now for communion in May. Chances are high that they have never heard of Celiacs and they will have to push back to the head all churches in the area for an answer. This may take a while and many conversations. I would NOT accept the low gluten host under any circumstances, but that is just me You can... -
ARCHIVED New To A Gluten Free Diet
gfgypsyqueen replied to mommy2Evyandalex's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Great to try the diet before giving meds. I've seen improvements in behavior, but I don't have a diagnosed ADD child yet. What is ODD? For the gluten-free/CF diet you will need to check everything that your child consumes or has contact with. That sounds horrible, but it is not. Start small with the easy items and just work through it slowly. FYI: Play Dough... -
ARCHIVED Husband Sort Of Gets It
gfgypsyqueen replied to wowzer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
LOL...been there. I've been given the lectures too. Like that is going to change my opinion! Those arguments are not fun. Bottom line is it is your health. If it is not safe, don't eat it. He needs to respect that certain pans and utensils need to be handled differently now. End of story and not open for debate! The compromise we finally came up with was... -
ARCHIVED 9 Yr Old Daughter Having Biopsy On Friday To Confirm Celiac
gfgypsyqueen replied to Kara'sMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The diet really does get easier pretty quickly. And you will feel better once you see the positive changes in her. She'll feel better pretty soon. The best way to start is with naturally gluten-free foods like the previous posters mentioned. But here are some of our favorites that are always stocked in the pantry! My kids like Van's Frozen waffles. They... -
ARCHIVED Hello, I Am New But I Have A Question
gfgypsyqueen replied to jnessa055's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've had two happy, healthy, smart kids. One when I didn't know about celiacs and then the second when I had celiacs for a few years. Both of my kids have food allergies and one has celiacs, so I doubt I am the norm. The first pregnancy was pretty much text book except for the fact that my face and arms were thinning during the pregnancy. After the... -
ARCHIVED Silent Celiac Disease?
gfgypsyqueen replied to dolly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since you mentioned an argument with your husband over Celiacs and basically how strict you have to be on this diet, I would say absolutely get a diagnosis. At minimum use EnteroLabs for testing. Your husband sounds like he might NEED you to have a diagnosis. It is a way of being sure that all this effort to keep you healthy is really doing something and... -

ARCHIVED Help With Family Over Holidays
gfgypsyqueen replied to tgrand's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Newsweek had an article...I think September. My family told me about it, so it must help coming from a main stream source. I have had Celiacs for almost 5 yrs and this is the first time they told me about an article. I would research other main stream magazines and news papers. FYI be sure to read the article first and only send the ones that give the right... -
ARCHIVED Toddlers And Putting Hands In The Mouth
gfgypsyqueen replied to tbakins's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Is your 18 mth old gluten-free and dairy/casein free? Yes it takes time to heal. But my toddler had a bigger problem with dairy than we thought. She has always had Soy formula but I never worried about trace milk. After long battles with pediatricians and gastro she was made Dairy free down to the trace levels and that made a big difference, but making her... -
ARCHIVED Silent Celiac Disease?
gfgypsyqueen replied to dolly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Dolly, Getting an official diagnosis can be a hot topic around here. Some consider an official diagnosis a requirement and others don't want to go through the head ache. Personally, I would get a diagnosis, if at all possible. The Dr can rule out other diseases and check you for other issues. Look into Entero labs if you want the least invasive test... -
ARCHIVED Son With Wheat Allergy Possible Celiac Developmentally Delayed Help!
gfgypsyqueen replied to Tripletmomtx's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi and welcome aboard! I'd just like to add that some kids are really just late talkers. Is it possible that your son could be one of those? Does he make non-verbal jestures? What other issues does he have? weight and height growth charts are going in a positive direction? Does he have sleep, poop, behavior problems. In short, fill us in on the details... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Ready To Eat Meals From Hormel
gfgypsyqueen replied to gfgypsyqueen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I actually talked to Red Cross recently because I wanted to hear the offical response...and officially we fit into the group called "Special needs". The emergency shelters are not able to make gluten-free meals or other allergy/diet specific meals. You are not able to bring a camping propane stove either. So in short, all of us Celiacs and severly allergic... -
ARCHIVED Isn't It Great When Mom Accuses You Of Making Celiac Up?
gfgypsyqueen replied to aeshlea's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Isn't family grand! I finally decided that the parents get insulted in some way that you being a celiac means that either the parents did something wrong to make you like this or somehow or another you blame them for crappy genes. Either way its not good. Family seems to take the longest to see that the diet is helping you. Don't argue, don't debate,... -
ARCHIVED Toddler With Celiac And Food Allergies
gfgypsyqueen replied to mom with gf toddler's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
FYI for the nut allergy celiacs. Be very careful of dog toys. The dog bones frequently come in peanut butter flavor. But the Kong and other marrow bones are frequently filled with peanut butter either at the factory or by the owners. I for one used to fill the Kong with kibble covered in peanut butter and frozen - great for puppy. Horrific now. I regularly... -
ARCHIVED Making The Whole Family gluten-free?
gfgypsyqueen replied to moonlitemama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think the bottom line has to be the health issue. If the family can follow strict rules about food and prevent you from getting sick from gluten then a mixed house works. But if you regularly get glutened in your home, then it is clearly not working. You aren't hurting them by making the house gluten-free, but they are hurting you by leaving gluten around...
