  1. before going gluten-free i used to have night terrors that would leave my husband in a panic because he thought i was going to kill myself one night. he even made me sleep on the side of the bed against the wall because i would try to get up and run (downstairs and outside) while half asleep and screaming. once i was awake my heart would be practically pounding...
  2. has any one tried to make these into rolls/biscuits? i didn't even think of offering bread at thanksgiving dinner but realized that's only because i never eat bread but the rest of the world does....i have a box of this mix and thought i could try dropping in onto a cookie sheet but i don't want to waste a whole box of mix if it isn't going to work....
  3. if you are really concerned about it talk to your doctor and ask specific questions about why you are not gaining weight/if there could be an underlying condition etc.. some women gain weight during pregnancy at different rates. my first trimester i didn't put on an ounce and lost weight, at 14 weeks the pounds starting packing on and i've now gained 10 at...
  4. I think it depends on where they do the baking in relation to where you will have to work and if you would come into direct contact with the products or not. if by the time they reach you they are all boxed up and there is no chance you would have to touch anything but the forklift you may be okay if you wear gloves and a face mask.. if you are next to the...
  5. Congratulations on your pregnancy and I'm sorry to hear about your test results. That being said, as I understand it, those tests have a high rate of false positive results. The tests don't diagnose a problem, they can only uncover the risk for the problems since they are screening tests. Your doctor is right to do the ultrasound and continue to monitor...
  6. my husband eats there a lot and swears it's fine but he tends to be more careless and not care if he gets sick/is "symptomless". i refuse to eat there because of your experience. not only do the employees not speak english but the restaurants by me keep the music so loud you can't even hear accross that little half window in addition to not understanding...
  7. Does any one have a recipe for gluten-free kolaches? My MIL makes them every xmas and we'd like to attempt a gluten-free version. She also uses cream cheese in the dough but I'm CF and SF so I'm not sure I'd be able to get around those. However, if I just find something that is gluten-free I may have to cheat and have one or two with the cream cheese in them...
  8. Before going gluten-free, anytime I became anxious or stressed I had explosive D. Before being DX'ed I also had horrible anxiety. Since being gluten-free/CF/SF I don't get as anxious as I used to (stressed still but not high anxiety like before) and I only occasionally have the tummy trouble to go with it. Now, I'll *think* I'm going to have trouble because...
  9. fellow member lonewolf gave me this recipe when i was first dx'ed. they come out pretty good and i've been able to pass them off to non-gluten-free'ers. Gooey Brownies 1 C Br. Rice flour 1/8 tsp. xanthan gum 1 Tbs. Egg Replacer 1/3 C Cocoa Powder 2 Tbs Sugar 1-1/2 tsp. Baking Powder 1/4 tsp. Salt Sift all dry ingredients 2-3 times. Then add...
  10. Congratulations! I take the Twin Labs Multi - in the first trimester I did the one without iron and I've now switched to the ones with Iron. They are supposed to be very allergy friendly. I had a hard time finding a prenatal I could tolerate so my nutritioinist has me on these. I also take the Cal/Mag. from Twin Labs.
  11. Yesterday I heard a great story, and a true one. Two businessmen came in to the same restaurant a few times a month for meetings. Every time they were there they ordered the club sandwhich. The chef noticed the one gentleman always picked off the bread or tried to eat around it. Finally, he went over to ask the guy what was wrong with the bread and the...
  12. I don't know about the prenatal vitamins but most doctors recommend waiting 6 months to a year before getting pregnant to help your body heal. I was DX'ed in February and got pregnant in August and to be honest with you, the cravings have been a little harder than I thought they would be. It's doubly hard to drive past a restaurant that's piping out good...
  13. K-Too's have soy lecithin in them. I can tolerate soy lecithin, some people can't As I understand it, soy lecithin and soy bean oil are okay because the protein that causes the reaction is removed during processing. I don't trust soybean oil but the soy lecithin i've challenged and am fine with.
  14. Hi Paula - are you looking for snack foods or meal stuff? I really like the things below: Jennie's Macaroons (Whole Foods) Oskri Coconut Bars (Amazon) Lara Bars (Costco) Rice Crackers (Edwards & Sons) (Amazon) K-too's (Amazon) If you have a Trader Joe's their rice noodle soup bowls are soy free (Thai Kitchens are not) Can you tolerate Soy...
  15. Sunday night my mother in law wanted to make my husband a gluten-free birthday dinner. She went as far as to ask me what to buy and also used new pots and pans. Something got me still (probably CC from her kitchen) and I had a migraine before we left her house. I thought the next few days would be miserable but Monday wasn't all that bad. Then on Tuesday...
  16. have you tried taking him off dairy? i get exzema on my hands when i eat dairy. you could try that first since it's easier than being gluten-free and see what happens. if it doesn't help him, then try him on gluten-free. Have you all been tested since your daughters diagnosis? it's a good idea for the whole fam. to be tested before going gluten-free to see...

my mission last weekend was to order thai for the first time. i took my dining card which is written in english and thai and went to several restaurants to ask them if they could make something. and i went early - 4pm or so. one place was wishy washy so i walked out and finally found a place where the girl i spoke with couldn't have been nicer or more accomodating...

    ARCHIVED Chicago Derm Or Doctor?

Rush University has an adult celiac program. If you go on the rush website and search for celiac it should pull it up. the past few weeks it was highlighted on the main page because they are having some conference on the 7th. good luck!
  19. I went in around 4pm to my local thai food place and spoke with the woman there with my dining card in hand and had the best meal. she highlighted what would be able to be modified on the menu (anything with rice or rice noodles really but not a lot of appetizers). i had to eat an early dinner but i plan on going in there a few more times early evening so...
  20. i've been following a gluten-free, casein free, soy free diet since March and my PN is just now noticably gone. I've been taking magnesium and sublingual B12 in addition to a multi, folic acid and B6. I also had restless leg syndrome and found the magnesium to be the most help with that. Have you considered seeing a knowledgable nutritionist? of course, make...
  21. thanks! cranberry and herb turkey burgers here we come! amy
  22. Made in Nature Organic Dried Cranberries - dried organic cranberries and organic sugar or organic maple syrup, sunflower oil i just question the maple syrup. there is no allergen statement and the website is no help. i'd like to use these in tonights dinner.... Amt
  23. You are not alone. I think every one goes through some period where they feel like they got a raw deal. I know for me it lasted a long time and I still think there is a small amount of it there but it doesn't come out until I'm in a situation where some one makes a comment. I just the "bet you wish you could have these, they are delicious" comments I get...
  24. hmm, I saw the Say Cheeze and didn't read the label because I figured it would have casein in it....I'll have to check that out next time I'm at the store. I can't believe hemp shows up in drug tests! that would be a bummer to find that out the hard way
  25. There is a vegan product called Chreese that is okay. I bought the Chreese Nacho Dip yesterday and it actually wasn't that bad, even my picky goat cheese eating husband thought it was pretty good. I eat the Mac & Chreese occassionally but I'm pregnant and real Mac & Cheese used to be my fav. meal soooooooooooo...... I like the alfredo style better...
