  1. D'you know what's really been bothering me? MLK said his dream was of a day when his children would be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin. And yet ALLLLL the freakin media coverage I see of Obama is about the color of his skin. I'd like to hear more about the content of his character, I don't care what color his skin...
  2. The skin biopsy means your mother has Dermatitis Herpetiformis, due to Celiac Disease. It's a definitive diagnosis, and she can go gluten free as soon as possible, there's no need to wait for any other tests. Since you live together, I can tell you that I think it will be easiest for you to make the entire kitchen gluten free. You'll still be able to eat...
  3. Ever seen that commercial for Stanley Steemer with the dog Toby? I watched that and thought the lady was crazy, nobody freaks out like that at the doggie butt scoot! The doggie butt scoot is too cute!!! K, I'll stop rhyming now. (bow chicka bow wow....)
  4. If you get a chance, my local health food store has tinctures and oils, one of which is mullein oil in olive oil, it's an infusion. Ask at the counter if they have it. It works very well to clear ears of clogs and infection, just work a little drop in there twice a day. Absolutely saved my life a couple years ago, I was ready to drill my ears out I'd gone...
  5. Yes, there could be a social breakdown here at the board, rife with misunderstandings and miscommunication ensuing from the loss of our 'Picture is worth a thousand nicer words' emoticons. This is serious!
  6. Sorry I been away ever'body. Went to Maine for three days with my Mum, relaxed and walked on the beach. It were totally wunnerful. Her cousins have a cabin, it's so quiet and you can see so many stars at night. I'm still stuck on barkbark obama. SNORT. How bout Bunnily? Think that works? Hope yer Dad's holding up Amanda. I do know exactly how...
  7. Spectrum shortening has worked well for me in biscuits and light pastry like danish, anything that has a lot of starch to soak up the oily taste you're getting. I can use it in any light (texture) bakery recipe that calles for at least 1/2 starch.
  8. You may just be detoxing, it may be a new dairy thing. For now, try using a neti pot with sea salt warm water solution, it should help clear the passages quite well. You might think about an eyebright tincture from the store as well, helps clear mucus.
  9. She does have symptoms. She has diabetes. That's why the doctor at your hospital screened for Celiac. I know your daughter seems to be handling the diabetes fairly well, but you might want to have a chat with her about how many other autoimmune disorders she's willing to put herself at risk for so that she can continue to eat junk food for lunch. Why doesn...
  10. How about that ricemellow cream? Or make a hard shell, one bag Enjoy Life choc chips, one Tbsp shortening, melt mix and pour. If you don't want that much cut both in half. Or use the other half to dip random stuff, it works really well for chocolate covered strawberries.
  11. My reply to that is always that I refuse to play the cancer game with myself, I've seen what happens firsthand. I elaborate if they ask, my father died of leukemia 2 yrs ago. Then they understand that what the other person is doing is wrong, and sometimes they start giving the other person a hard time! It's kinda cool.
  12. I'm so sorry. I think it's time to have the hotel discussion. Where do you live? I can help you find a cheap one!
  13. Never before have I been a legitimizing factor. I feel so warm and fuzzy! (I'm just a good faker, I'm sillier in real life than you could ever imagine!)
  14. So, how ya doin, what's going on.... We're worried!
  15. See, this has always worried me, because I'm afraid if I squeak too much, I'll get replaced!
  16. Adding to the good fats list: Organic poultry skin (you can boil in soup), eggs, organic beef fat, avocado's, if you can find RAW milk that would be good. Try to avoid as much pasteurized dairy as possible, your poor little crushed villi need a break.
  17. Awww, pattycake. My mother does that, I'm convinced her stomach has the capacity of a two year old. We have to remind her not to overeat, or she'll regret it!
  18. Yeah, as in, "Take this wheat stalk and head 'em off at the pass!"
  19. That would make me very upset! Off the top of my head: Sorghum can replace rice in any baking recipe. There's also millet, buckwheat, teff, amaranth, the starches. Quinoa pilaf. Kasha (buckwheat porridge). Cornmeal and parmesan for breading. Against the Grain products, made from tapioca and mozzarella.
  20. To answer your title question, YES! I get stressed out and whoooosh goes my tummy. Some people get normal stuff, like heart palpitations, or headaches, or a rash, but nooooo...... Not me. I get to spend half my day on the toilet.
  21. I would say, if anything, contact the site of the reception, and find out if they can make you gluten free food. If necessary, tell them your needs require that you bring your own food and ask if they'll plate it for you and serve it like normal, without actually touching the food itself, blah blah blah....
  22. So what do all these mean, and what results mean positive?
