  1. I will be looking into this.....................take out pizza is something I really miss. I am going to see if they have a site. Barbara
  2. I use BRM all purpose flour in all of my baking with good results. I do find that if you back off a little bit on the amount of flour you use when you are using your own recipes and add about 1 tsp. xanthun gum for each cup of flour, you will have good results. I can't believe you have been eating gluten-free this long and have not experimented with baking...
  3. You will feel so much better when you get going and find all of the food that is gluten-free. For bread, I make mine from Bob's Red Mill Bread Mix, and make it in four small loaves rather than the one large one. As I am the only one in the house that eats it, it lasts a reasonable long time. The other bread thing that I like is Kinninicnick (spelling?...

    ARCHIVED Biaggi's

There is a great restaurant chain, Biaggi's that has a fabulous gluten-free menu with many selections. I ate at the one in Raleigh, NC and I know they are in Illinois and Madison, WI....just go to www.biaggis.com or something close, it will get you there. Their gluten-free pasta is a spincah one. My 10 year old celiac granddaughter is very skeptical of...
  5. Yes, there are a lot of us with celiac or a gluten intolerance that also have problems with thyroid. I was diagnosed with a thyroid problem first, then fibromyalgia and then figured out the gluten thing. I have been away from this site for a long time, but decided to come back and have a look today. Glad I did. I was cheating a little and have been having...
  6. My 10 year old granddaughter is Catholic and serves at mass and she has some 0% gluten wafers that are acceptable to her priest that she carries in a little receptacle around her neck....she goes first at communion so the wine is pure, also. She goes to that church's school and they are all familiar with her. The church they attended before they moved...
  7. Just a quick sharing.......I have very few gastro problems anymore when I get gluten (which I did this last weekend-----what was thinking?????) but gluten makes my fibromyalgia very bad and I sure am paying for that today. Back on the straight and norrow and I know it will go away, for the most part, when I am totally gluten-free again. I feel so much better...
  8. It was pleasing to hear another person say they use Bob's Red Mill All Purpose Flour as I use that exclusively in recipes and for thickening gravy. I have used cornstarch and potato starch to thicken gravies, too. The BRMAPF works so well for me, I just back off some on the amount in all of my favorite recipes and add some xanthun gum. It seems the more...
  9. Here is something really interesting about this thread................although there were only nine additions to it, nearly 800 people went to it and read it. It must be a very touchy subject for many people. There is something to this theory.........the link of depression and eating gluten to supress it. It should be looked into further. I was playing...
  10. Diagnosed with fibro about eight months before being diagnosed with a gluten intolerance. When I get gluten, I really don't get too bad of G I symptoms, but my fibro kicks up and I am exta tired. The better I do on the no-gluten diet, but better off I am with the fibro situation. I also have a thryroid condition which also is closey tied into this whole...
  11. This is what I know for sure................I WAS diagnosed by a rhumatologist with fibromyalgia and take Mobic on a daily basis for it. When I eat gluten free the whole thing is pretty much under control. When I get gluten, I get a bad flare-up of the fibro. LIKE TODAY, I hurt all over and I know it is because I have been abusing gluten, which I thought...
  12. There definitely is something to the sugar thing. I know that I feel better when I do not eat white sugar or anthing with it in it to any amount. Recently I gave it up (again!!!) and am feeling much better.......just attitude and I am so much more in control, not wanting to eat so much and all the time. Also I gave up all foods with flour, even the gluten...
  13. When I go to my own church, which is Lutheran, I have a stash of rice crackers cracked in half and those that prepare the communion table put one of my crackers up for the days communion. If I go to my Luthern church in the hometown that I was born in for a visit, they do the tear off the bread loaf thing, so I take it and don't eat it, I throw it to the...
  14. For what it's worth, I use Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Flour Mixture for everything and it works great for me. I find that you can cut back a tad as it is a little heavier than regular flour and then I use Xanthun gum, probably 1 t. for every cup of flour used. I have subbed this in all of my favorite recipes with delightful results. I just don't make a...
  15. After being diagnosed with fibromyalgia, then I found out that gluten did not agree with me---all within the last five years and I am now 62 with a granddaughter that is 9 who has had celiac since the age of one. The fibro symptoms were much better afte going gluten-free. They say (whoever they are) that people with migraines (that's me too), fibro and...
  16. Just another addition to say I bought two BIG boxes of Rice Chex today.......what a treat to pay $2.88 for each one at WalMart----they don't have them at my local store----, the Rice Twice that I was buying was anywhere from $4.50 to $5.50 for a much smaller box. I did like Rick Twice, though, but oh so expensive and eventually it would have gotten boring...
  17. I just heard him say he has celiac sprue and he was having some bidding thing on his program and he was donating all the proceeds to the celiac sprue association. This was a rerun of an older program, nothing current, but was surprising to me as I listen to his program all the time and it is the first time I have heard him mention this. One more for our...
  18. Imperial Gardens in Middleton, just at the edge of Madison on University drive will make practically anything on their menu gluten-free and they will serve gluten-free soy sauce on the side. It is so nice to be able to go to an oriental food place and get something with a brown sauce instead of always with a white sauce. I love that place and go there everytime...
  19. OHMYGOSH, I just made these brownies and they are so good. Got the recipe from Recipe Czar and made it my own: 2 sticks butter, melted 1 cup cocoa 2 cups sugar 4 eggs 2 t. gluten-free vanilla 1 c. Bob's Gluten Free Flour mixture 1/2 t. salt 1 t. xanthun gum 1 c. nuts (optional) I didn't use 6 oz. mini chocolate chips---I did use I mixed in...
  20. Just be careful of Topomax, it can have some bad side effects, I have been warned by a doctor friend. I still am on a 50 mg. dose daily which is keeping headaches away most all the time and if I do get one, an Imitrex makes it go away totally, thank Heaven. Topomax was originally designed as medicine for epilepsy and apparently the same thing that helps...

    ARCHIVED Dry Eyes

Ya know.............you learn something every time you come to this site and poke around. I don't come here every day, and maybe I should. I have been having dry eyes here and there and my nose is so bad in the winter, it drives me crazy. I live in very northern Wisconsin where the air is very dry anyway (you wouldn't think it would be with this many lakes...
  22. I wanted to make the Turtle Pumpkin Pie recipe that was in the magazines this month for our Thanksgiving dinner. I bought a package of Pamela's Pecan cookies, crumbled them up and added about 2/3 of a stick of melted butter and baked it in a 350 degree oven for about 8 minutes and when it cooled, proceeded with the recipe which is gluten free. It was wonderful...
  23. I have the 300 watt one and I agree, it does not do double batches of bread, but it will do a double batch of cookies or cake pretty well. I think if I were to re-purchase, I might consider a larger one, but I am very happy just to have the one I have. It beats up my gluten-free bread so nicely. If I knew how good a Kitchen Aid was, I sure would have had...
  24. I just love it too when companies include the fact that their product is gluten-free. When shopping at Wal-Mart there are many things that say gluten-free, I love that store. It is so reassuring to see it and to know that companies recognize the fact that they will gain customers immediately if they just put those two little words on their packaging. Barbara
  25. How could you go wrong with a salad/no croutons, a filet or any steak cooked on the char-grill/no sauce, and a baked potato or baked sweet potato? The food at Texas Road House is superb and so you should go there happily. I ate their caesar dressing with no problem too, kind of winged it on that one. Barbara
