Also new to this thread, but it is exactly what I have been wanting to weigh in on. I was dx with fibro first and then celiac six months later (through Enterolab). I guess I had been doing so well, that I had been thinking that maybe I don't have fibro anymore (taking Mobic for pain daily)..........SO (SILLY ME) I got careless with the gluten intake, which...

Noticed that at least a couple of you have fibromyalgia and I think mine gets worse when I get into the sugar. I try to not eat it at all, but buckled last week, got into the sugar (and gluten a little which I thought I would NEVER do) and my hands and knees are killing me. It is all connected..........gluten, fibro, thyroid.....wish my doctor "got it"...

Whenever I get the chance I eat at Noodles and Co. and order buttered rice noodles with chicken, tomatoes, broccoli and extra cheese. I have never had a problem. My granddaughter, who is very sensitive eats there and has pretty much the same thing and she does well too. Try changing your order and see what happens. Barbara

ARCHIVED Anyone Else With Surgar Allergy And Celiac?
sixtytwo replied to GFDahlia's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Is there actually a test for an allergy to white sugar? I decided to not eat white sugar and flour so as to lose some undesired weight. It worked, I lost 5# the first month, eating meat, fruit and veggies. I do eat potatoes and rice occasionally. Lots of gluten-free products are high in calories such as the baked goods and anything that is regular,not... -
ARCHIVED Weight Gain With Celiac
sixtytwo replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What an excellent article. All gluten-free goods are very high in calories, there is no "light" version, thus it is very easy to put on the pounds. For instance...........only regular maple syrup is gluten-free, not the light version---and the bread is very hight calorie too. I have found that if I give up things with flour and white sugar, than I can... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Costs?
sixtytwo replied to mama2two's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Paid for it myself, have a high deductible, best money I ever spent. Doctors do not know squat about this, and they may not even recognize the results when you show them. Do it anyway for your own peace of mind. Have the full panel as you need to know what other things you might be sensitive to and if you have the gene. Barbara -
ARCHIVED A Tribute To Bette Hagman 08/24/2007
sixtytwo replied to dewinged-pixie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you don't think it is too rude of me to ask, what disease did she die from? I must have missed discussions regarding her on this board. Was she ill a long time, or was this something that came on recently? Thanks for filling me in. Barbara -
Have lost weight several times in my life and the two times I did the best is with Weight Watchers. I am overweight now and I swear that I will not pay anyone again, so I am doing a modified version of one of their plans and it seems to be working. I just feel that I need to find something that works for me and that I can live with over time. Leaving white...

ARCHIVED Can Anyone Give Advice, help Or Even Relate With Gluten Free Weight Gain And Health Problems
sixtytwo replied to Tarrenae's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
There's another thread going now regarding sugar and flour that you should read. There are those of us that feel we are addicted to them and so we avoid them for the most part. I, for one, have eliminated flour and sugar for the time being and I am losing weight and am so in control, the cravings are gone. I have been yo-yoing all of my life and so who... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Feel Addicted To Sugar And Flour?
sixtytwo replied to Cris's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
WOW, this is so interesting...............back to see what others have written. I have actually had episodes where I have had (this was before going gluten-free) a major sub sandwich (lots of gluten) and then maybe a dessert or a big ice cream cone and I have gotten so sick. I had to lie down as I could not hold my head up and just sleep it off for the... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Feel Addicted To Sugar And Flour?
sixtytwo replied to Cris's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
OHMYGOSH.........I was going on today to talk about this very subject and thought I would have to start a thread myself. I went totally sugar/carb free (other than a few red potatoes occasionally) a couple of weeks ago and I feel so in control and am dropping weight. I think that the carbs that are gluten-free cakes/cookies etc. are really not all that... -
ARCHIVED Great Value Scalloped Potatoes & Au Gratin Potatoes
sixtytwo replied to home-based-mom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Have to agree with the other people.........I was one that has been bragging about the GV gluten-free potatoes from a box that WalMart has now. I love them, eat them and am fine every time. Can't imagine why you would be reacting to them this way. I trust that WalMart is right when they say their products are gluten-free, or they could be in a lot of trouble... -
Julie--------you are so lucky to get doctors that GET IT!!!!!!! So far my rhumatologist and my GP just cannot tune in to the fact that thyroid and fibromyalgia tie into the gluten thing. They will eventually and then........will they admit it???????? We will see. Barbara

ARCHIVED Always Gluten-free Eating Out?
sixtytwo replied to 7-cody's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Gotta go with dragonmom.......steak, baked potato and a salad works for me. Steak is usually cooked on a charcoal grill which self cleans from the heat and I carry my own salad dressing packed in individual packets so that if I am not happy with the salad dressing selection at the restaurant, then there is not problem there. If you are super sensitive,... -
ARCHIVED New Diagnosed In Chicago
sixtytwo replied to GFinChicago's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Maybe your Chicago friends could help you with your boss...............by actually doing what the former person says and encouraging your bakery to add gluten-free items. If he thought that it would bring in new customers that would make his business grow, how could he say no? I think the idea of presenting some items to him, also would be good. Nothing... -
ARCHIVED Gooey Chocolate Chip Cookies
sixtytwo replied to confusedks's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Make the recipe on the back of the Gihardelli chocolate chip (they are gluten-free) package, they are so good. When you make them regular, they are too thin, but if you use Bob's Red Mill flour mix, they are just right. I am salivating now just thinking about them. Gihardelli chocolate is all gluten-free and yummy. Barbara -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Doesn't Seem So Bad
sixtytwo replied to amberleigh's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
WOW, what a nice thread........I, too, agree that this is not all that hard and appreciate hearing it from others. Once a person finds out what works and what doesn't it really isn't all that hard. Agreed.......eating out isn't quite as much fun as before, but it should be about the company you keep as much as the food. If you choose the place wisely then... -
ARCHIVED Really Worried About My Dad
sixtytwo replied to Renth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can get this at any stage in life, however, it probably was in your system for some time---I can go back on certain incidents in my life when I was so sick after eating a major sub sandwich or something like that---never put it together, though. My granddaughter who is nine now, has had it since she was one, I got diagnosed when I was 58 (I am now ... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free At Walmart
sixtytwo replied to tabdegner's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just have to reinforce what a former person said about the Great Valu brand at WalMart........their boxed potatoes are superb (my husband even remarked that they were good and potatoes aren't his thing) and so much cheaper than the name brand with gluten free marked right on the box. We sure have come a long way. I was there today and bought three muffin... -
ARCHIVED Sweet Baby Ray's Barbecue Sauce
sixtytwo replied to JennyC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
WOW, that sounds good..........I have a tavern and restaurant and fall-off-the-bones tender BBQ baby back ribs is our specialty. I serve ONLY Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce and I buy it in the case by the gallon. I just did a Taste of our town today and they were wildly popular. I would not let any other sauce touch my ribs. I could work for that company and... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Pantry
sixtytwo replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This isn't about brownies or cake mixes, but WalMart's boxed potatoes (scalloped and au gratins) are gluten-free and are just as good as the name brand ones.......says gluten-free right on the box........and so much cheaper. I try to keep them on the shelf all the time. I am a huge fan of WalMart, I don't care what anyone says and I sure wish one was closer... -
ARCHIVED Just A Little Bit Celiac?
sixtytwo replied to SunnyDyRain's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So totally in agreement with DarkIvy..........I had negative bloodwork, but positive with Enterolab and boy, when I eat gluten, do I get sick now. I think it is getting worse and I am 62 and just started eating gluten-free three years ago. I have a granddaughter who was diagnosed with celiac at age one--she was classic and blood tested plus the biopsy ... -
ARCHIVED Organic Oatmenl
sixtytwo replied to maw3687's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I tried oats again after being gluten-free for a long time and I got such pains. The gal that runs our health food store got me on cream of buckwheat and I LOVE it.......very similar to cream of wheat, but toally gluten-free. It has fiber too. It is a great start to my day. Barbara -
When I go to a place like Cracker Barrell that are on the fence like this, I order a steak, baked potato and veggie that are pretty safe, and then I wing it on something like their apples, which I have seen on their list as being gluten-free. Lots of places offer a steak and a baked or boiled potato and veggie or salad (I carry packets of gluten-free dressing...

ARCHIVED Why I Chose Enterolabs
sixtytwo replied to Lemonsieur's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sure do hope that lots of people read your story, it is a good one. Although not as dramatic, I ended up finding out that I should not be eating gluten through Enterolab and feel it was the best money I could have spent. There still are people out there that are stuck on the standard medical people and will not think outside the box and use Enterolab. ...
