  1. Upper abdominal pain is one of my main symptoms of a gluten injestion. I think that it would be a good idea to get your son tested.
  2. The spicy food that you are eating may have gluten in it, or you may just be sensitive to it for a while. I use McCormick a lot for my spices since they will clearly indicate gluten in their ingredient lists.
  3. wow... I did not know that. Thanks for the info.
  4. I usually try and buy organic food as well. It is expensive but in my opinion it is worth it. If you are concerned with potential gluten on apples, just buy organic or call the company. I have eaten non-organic apples and have never had a reaction.
  5. When I have a gluten accident I get mild to severe upper abdominal pain. The pain is right where the stomach/upper small intestine might be. I almost wonder if it is a sign that damage is occuring.
  6. After my last gluten reaction, which was unfourtunatley last week-end I wanted meat, which is very rare for me.
  7. Thanks! It seems like they are very accomodating. Which is great!

    ARCHIVED Rash

I have developed little rashy spots on my skin during my last 2 gluten accidents. The first time they appeared on my elbow, leg, upper arm, and neck. The second time I only had 2 on my left leg. I also have not been diagnosed with dh, but I believe that this could be dh or a skin reaction to wheat (since I also have a wheat allergy).
  9. Actually, I just realized that I got heart palpitations during my recent gluten reaction, so maybe it is celiac disease related? I also wasn't faithful in taking my supplements so that may have been part of the problem.

    ARCHIVED Rash

Are you on the gluten-free diet? If not, then the rash could come at anytime. If the rash it kinda itchy and red then it is most likely dh. I think that if you are having diarrhea and a dh like rash then you should be tesed for celiac disease. You can also get the rashes biopsied to see if it is dh.
  11. I know, I was confused at first as well. They all appear to have "Gluten-, lactose- and tartrazine-free." near the end of the description. So tylenol is fine
  12. Sorry, you may not have caught that edit, all the tylenols appear to be gluten free!
  13. If you plan to get an official diagnosis then going gluten free may result in a false negative test result. However, some people decide to go on the diet without an official diagnosis. I use garnier fructis shampoo... Dove products will clearly indicate gluten This website says that tylenol is gluten free. Check under "Availability And Storage" and look...
  14. It should be easy to tell if the fry was contaminated. If you ate it from a restaurant, you could ask the staff if they have dedicated friers for the their fries and if you bought them at a store, you could call the company. From my experience, I think that one small contamination may cause intestinal damage. I don't have proof or anything, but I get...
  15. I actually like seeing the older posts. I've replied to old posts. For example, if I need gluten-free make-up, shampoo, suncreen, ect. I usually look through the old posts first and then I will post my question in the old post. jenvan, I think that is a very good suggestion.
  16. Welcome back! I am glad that you had a good time and didn't get sick! The staff seem very accommodating. That is amazing that you can go on a cruise and not get sick! I will definately consider Royal Caribbean when I plan my cruise. Do you think that they would also accommodate a gluten and dairy free diet? or is that asking too much?
  17. I use Imagine broths, they usually have gluten free right on the label. I also use McCormick bouillon cubes and spices, since they will clearly indicate gluten if present. What can be in it? I am not very familiar with MSG.
  18. That is interesting... are heart palpitations a common symptom in graves disease? I have had my thyroid checked but it was over a year ago now.
  19. I get heart palpitations and I once went to the emergeny room with them because they were so bad. I did some research on them and I have found that calcium, magnesium, and potassium help prevent the palpitations. I started taking a Calcium Magnesium supplement and eating lots of bananas (potassium) and found that the palpitations stopped. However, I haven...
  20. Toothpaste could have gluten in it, but the major brands like colgate and crest are gluten-free.
  21. It depends on the doctor. My doctor had to do the biopsy, but others are satisified with the positive blood test(s).
  22. I heat up food all the time while I'm at university and have never been made fun of. Actually, people usually comment on how good my food looks and smells. However, I know what you mean though... some kids in grade school can be very mean. If people make fun of you for trying to eat, than that is their problem and they are very immature. I don't think anyone...
  23. Glutamine is a non essential amino acid that is used to make proteins in the body. You could probably get your glutamine levels checked to see if they are low and if you need supplements.
  24. I think those neverending bread crumbs have glutened me yet AGAIN I was glutened on the weekend but don't know how... I had a little talk with everyone in my family and there are going to be some changes around the house. Big bright lables on everything that it mine! It's really scary though... I mean I didn't see bread crumbs (obviously) and I didn't eat...

    ARCHIVED How Do I Start?

When I got sick my general practitionar referred me to a GI specalist. If you want an official diagnosis make sure that you stay on the diet until after the bloodwork or biopsy or you may get false negative results.
