ARCHIVED Please Read - No Celiacs Can Have Soy!
Carriefaith replied to srokie's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I would be interested in seing research done on the effects of soy on people with celiac disease. You should ask your doctor if any studies have been done where the small intestine has been biopsed in individuals following a strick gluten-free diet while eating soy. Studies like this have been done with pure uncontaminated oats and some people have damage... -

ARCHIVED Allergic To Wheat Vs. Celiac
Carriefaith replied to azmom3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have celiac disease and I've also tested positive for wheat allergy. -
I'm glad that the doctors have made a diagnosis. I hope that you start to feel better soon. I have read that chron's can be put into remission by diet without the medication. Some of those meds like predinose can be really tough on the system (I've been on predinose before and it was a werid little drug). The diet I've read and heard about that works...

I have been in a similar situation. I decided not to mention my problems at work related dinners/lunchs and just eat my own food before/after or at the meal. I did this because I don't like my problems to be the center of attention. However, I have found that if I don't mention that I have celiac disease and/or food allergies from the begginning that people...

ARCHIVED In Tears And Confused
Carriefaith replied to jaysmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am sorry... You can get diagnosed with celiac disease at any age. I would consider changing doctors and/or request a celiac blood test (tissue transglutamase) as soon as possible. If he goes on a gluten-free diet, blood and biopsy tests for celiac disease may be false negative. -

ARCHIVED How Do You Tell The Difference?
Carriefaith replied to hannahsue01's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Some of the symptoms are similar between stomach flu and getting glutened. I can tell when I am glutened because I usually get a rash. I also get depressed and irritable. -

Oh no! I'm sorry That's not good at all that they delayed your bus. There is a storm starting in BC and making it's way across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. It's already started snowing here where I live in Northern Alberta. I hope the storm doesn't start where you are until you get home. Let us know when you get home. -
ARCHIVED Corn Chips
Carriefaith replied to Carriefaith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm guessing they aren't sold in Canada. Ah well. Maybe I'll get someone I know to get some for me. The warning does bother me, but some people don't seem to get a reaction. I have reacted to lays regualar chips and regular stacks before, but I believe it was a dairy reaction (I could be wrong though). -

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed
Carriefaith replied to JenD.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
In the book I read (I think it's the Danna Korn one), I learned that the enzymes that break down the starches are near the bottom/middle?(don't remember) of the villi and the enzymes that break down lactose are near the tips of the villi. The tips would heal last, so that explains why so many people with celiac disease have lactose intolerance for a while... -

Thanks so much for you help Andrea. The article is very interesting. This is interesting because I started getting allergic to foods around the same time I started getting sick with celiac disease.

I don't think that I have ever had the natural Tostitos. Maybe I will try those... -
Thanks everyone for all your help. I really appreciate your responses. Based on your advice, I've decided not to challenge foods unless I am in a controlled environment. I'm highly considering challenging the foods in a controlled setting and/or getting more testing done. I would never go back to eating wheat since I have celiac disease... I guess I just...

I am getting frustrated and I need some advice. I have mulltiple food allegies in addition to having celiac disease (just check out my signature ). One of these allergens causes a severe reaction in which I now carry epi-pens and wear a medical alert bracelet. However, I am not sure which one is the culprit! My suspisions are wheat or milk, but I am...

I wouldn't have eaten them either. I've been in a similar situation, but you have to do what is best for your health, even if it hurts someone's feelings or makes them mad.

ARCHIVED Corn Chips
Carriefaith replied to Carriefaith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks everyone! Seems like most people can tolerate tostitos, I may be brave and try them. Que Pasa chips are good, but they are contaminated with dairy. I'm planning on challenging my milk allergy in the future, so maybe I'll be able to eat them!
