ARCHIVED Dr. Says I Don't Have Celiac
Carriefaith replied to Katerific's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm sorry you got sick, that is no fun The doctor did not have any evidence to back up his assumption. He should have pursued a gene test for you since any other tests could be false negative. Regardless, your dietary test was positive and celiac disease runs in your family. I would say that your chances of having celiac disease are high. -
ARCHIVED Which gluten-free Moisturizers Do You Use On Your Face?
Carriefaith replied to Carriefaith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hopefully I will find some of these lip balms. I'll see if I can find them at a health food store I know about the next time I'm in the city. Thanks for all your help. -
ARCHIVED Gas, Gas, Gas - Is This Celiac's?
Carriefaith replied to laglut's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Some people don't get any symptoms (or very few) and still have villi damage. Everyone is different. Eating cereal with malt could cause some major gas. Other foods can casue problems while the villi in the small intestines are healing. When the villi in the small intestine are damaged due to gluten, certain foods may pass undigested. The enzymes that... -

ARCHIVED Second Opinion?!
Carriefaith replied to cajun celiac's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Which test(s) did you have done. A false positive is rare... I know that the gluten-free diet seems really overwhelming at first, so many labels to read, so much research, so long at the grocery store, need to modify recipes. But after a while these things won't seem so difficult. Now I just fly through the grocery stores, I know where everything is and... -
ARCHIVED Some Urgent Questions.. Please Help
Carriefaith replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sure most of us struggle with eating out at other places. I know I do. It is really hard sometimes. People sometimes seem hurt or offended if you don't eat something they touched or made. I don't eat anywhere now unless my mom has made the food or the restaurant is really strict on making gluten-free foods. I usually take food with me went I need to eat... -
I really like your new haircut! Your cousins seem happy. Someone lives in a nice place with all those trees on the property! Cute kitty!

Thanks Tiffany! I'll look for those products. Can you find them in pharmacies or do you have to go to elsewhere. -
ARCHIVED Bad Endoscopy Results :(
Carriefaith replied to Emme999's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm really sorry that you aren't feeling well and that your villi aren't healing I hope that your doctor can help find a solution for you. Have the villi improved since the last time you had a biopsy? -
ARCHIVED Which gluten-free Moisturizers Do You Use On Your Face?
Carriefaith replied to Carriefaith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bought a Dove product, not sure if it is meant for the face, but it seems to work! Thanks for your suggestions. I have another question... What brand of lip gloss do you use because mine obviously doesn't work very well. I find that my lips are almost always peeling and/or dry. My lip gloss leaves chunks of gloss all over my lips and I think it's mixed... -
ARCHIVED Trip To Wisconsin Dells
Carriefaith replied to angelsmom's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I don't know any specific places there, but like Viola suggested, plain foods are probably the safest. I once ordered a salmon dinner which was plain salmon cooked on tin foil (my request), plain rice, and vegetables (which I didn't eat becaue it looked like there was something else in them). I also ordered lobster and plain salad once. I suggest to avoid... -
I was officially diagnosed around my 23rd birthday. I think it was several days before my birthday!

ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed
Carriefaith replied to shutterbugnv's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm not a huge fan of cooking baked goods and I also don't have the time and/or motivation every week to make bread on top of cooking meals. I don't even have a breadmaker. That is why I mainly eat Kinnikinnick bread. Sterk's bread is also quite good, but harder to find. -

Carriefaith replied to shutterbugnv's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There are people with little or no symptoms and the gluten-free diet can be harder for them. I know it can be tempting to eat something "illegal". I am tempted sometimes, and I'm sure most people are. But I have to remind myself of the consequences. My advice would be to think of some of your favorite foods and start finding recipes or modifying recipes... -
ARCHIVED What Are You Craving?
Carriefaith replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That sounds good! I'm still craving nachos and now I'm craving pudding. I was a chipaholic so I crave chips as well, especially all dressed and ketchup. -
ARCHIVED Random Acts Of Kindness
Carriefaith replied to angel-jd1's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
There are so many kind, loving, and caring people on this message board. I won't mention names because I know I'll forget someone. There is usually always someone that offers advice or trys to help someone who has a question. Many of you put a lot of time into helping others on the board, which is very much appreciated. People will sometimes have a response... -
ARCHIVED Research On Tolerable Amounts Of Gluten
Carriefaith replied to Azzie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I personally would not eat a salad that had croutons picked out. I get sick every few months from the "invisible particle", whether it is gluten or something I am allergic to. -
That is weird. Probably just a bunch of kids who were bored. Once someone stole the top of the toilet tank at the Tim Horton's I worked at years ago. That was funny. We wondered how they got out of the store without anyone noticing.

ARCHIVED How You Stay Healthy...
Carriefaith replied to AmandaD's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That is a long time on the diet and it is possible that you need more time. Have you been tested for food allergies? You may have an intolerance or an allergy to something that is preventing you from feeling well. -
ARCHIVED Is There Anything That Can Be Done To Speed Up
Carriefaith replied to ami27's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I usually just wait it out. There are foods that may help. Blueberries may help with diarrhea and/or constipation. "Blueberries can help relieve both diarrhea and constipation. In addition to soluble and insoluble fiber, blueberries also contain tannins, which act as astringents in the digestive system to reduce inflammation." Open Original Shared Link -
I think I may request the ELISA tests. I would just like to know for sure which food it is because I'm tired of guessing. And to be honest, I worry when I try new or different products for fear of a severe reaction. If I knew for sure what the food was, then I be less worried all the time (I hope).

I have another question and I was wondering if any of you have heard anything like this before. Could a combination of two allergens result in an anaphylactic reaction? More specifiically, the allergen by itself doesn't produce a severe reaction, but when combined with another allergen the reaction is severe.
