ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed
Carriefaith replied to JenD.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome Staches and sugars (including lactose) may be hard to digest for the first few months. Eating gluten results in the destruction of villi in the small intesine. These villi contain enzymes which digest starches and sugars; therefore, if they aren't present, then they go through the digestive tract undigested (I believe this is explained better in... -
I got episods of more than normal hunger for a few months after starting the gluten-free diet. This got better with time. High protein foods may help. Try eating foods such as chili, gluten-free meat pies, steak, chicken, fish, turkey, ect.

Carriefaith replied to acousticmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you are second guessing the flu shot try eating anti viral foods such as garlic and onions. I personally got the flu shot this year, but I also eat lots of garlic! Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link -

ARCHIVED I'm Struggling.........
Carriefaith replied to Mountaineer Josh's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I also get frustrated with all the food I have to avoid. I think it's only normal to have those feelings once in a while. Our world does seem to depend on wheat (and dairy ) and it's hard to avoid. When I start getting depressed about celiac disease and all my allergies I just think that I could have got something worse. -

ARCHIVED Can't Drink Wine Anymore?
Carriefaith replied to kristend's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My guesses are that your body doesn't handle alcohol that well now since you may still be healing or that you are allergic/intolerant to something else in the wine. I can have problems with wine. Certain wines can contain casein (a milk protein) and sulphites. I am allergic to milk and metabisulphite so I'm assuming that was my problem. I have had certain... -

ARCHIVED Growing Pains?
Carriefaith replied to covsooze's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I remember having knee, hip and mild ankle pain in the months leading up to my diagnosis. My knee and hip pain were the worst by far. I had trouble walking sometimes and had a bit of a limp by times because of the knee pain. All this greatly improved after being gluten-free for a few months, the hip pain bothered me for at least 3-4 months after going on... -
ARCHIVED New Here And A Question
Carriefaith replied to melody-m's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You may have a few options. You could put him back on gluten, but I believe he would have to be eating gluten for at least 3 months. Your other option may be to get a gene test done. -

ARCHIVED Hair Loss Part Of Celiac Disease?
Carriefaith replied to BeckyW's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
About 3 years ago I was shedding more than normal hair when I was at my worst (around diagnosis). This improved after being on a gluten-free diet. However, I've noticed recently that I seem to be losing more hair than normal so I've started taking a multivitamin to see if that helps. My hair is also damaged and dry which is very unusual for me. If it doesn... -

ARCHIVED Dan D Pak
Carriefaith replied to Carriefaith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm not sure what isn't gluten-free. From what I saw on the bottle of cashews they seemed gluten-free to me! Maybe they are contaminated with gluten? If they respond to me again I'll ask them if you would like.
