  1. I think a lot of people just don't know what to do with difference. I think people don't have any idea how we manage not eating conveniently all the time and they don't get the dedication to this diet. It is a hard diet, and it takes a lot of convenience out of our lives. No more lets "drive thru McDonald's." I can relate to this a little bit, but a lot of...
  2. They're good. I like them...I don't LOVE them but they're good to keep in my purse in a pinch. I like them more than Lara Bars. Their snickerdoodle cookies are to die for! My friends who eat gluten LOVE them, more than "regular (gluten) Kassandra
  3. I would say avocado. Add it to as much as you can. Guacamole, slices in salads, anywhere that is appetizing to you. I don't need to gain weight, but I know someone who did and she did it by eating a lot of avocado. It is really reasonably priced at Trader Joe's if that is a concern because sometimes they are really expensive. Also, do you cook with olive...
  4. I never had Blood transfusions...too risky. I had Iron IV's. It was called Ferrlicet (the iron.) Since I was still eating gluten at the time of the IV's, my body still wasn't absorbing the iron because the blunted villi from Celiac. My body wasn't able to absorb. If she needs IV help, I would try the Iron first before blood because there are risks, unless...
  5. My only concern is that I went to a chiropractor for a while and he never noticed my "hunchback and swayback." When you look at me it is fairly noticeable. So, I am afraid to go to another one. I am in PT and that is helping, but the pain was so bad I was in the hospital for 6 days and ugh! I am just so annoyed and the dr. is saying if the PT and epidural...
  6. I bought one of the fit-fresh containers. I didn't want to invest in a real bento box so I got one of those instead figuring if I don't want to take forever to make my lunch...I wont waste money. Kassandra
  7. The only thing with the IV's is that if celiac is the problem, she needs to be gluten-free when she gets them. In my experience I had them while I was still eating gluten, and my numbers went down REALLLY fast after having the IV's. Once I went gluten-free, they came up. My hematologist told me I would need another set of them. You can also try to make sure...
  8. Hm, that's interesting. I have Schuermann's Disease which is a curve of your spine...different than scoliosis. It is the curve when you look at someone's profile...it should be 20 degrees....mine is 67 both upper and lower. So apparently it has shifted my pelvis and it has shifted. Ugh, I don't know. This just sucks! Kassandra
  9. Ugh! I'm so sorry you're going through all of this! I am 17 and I am having a lot of physical problems also. Doctors have no idea what is wrong with me. They say it's one thing, but then they treat that problem and it doesn't work! I may have to have back/ SI joint surgery in a few months and am very worried! If you ever want to talk, you can email me knshore...
  10. Thanks for the replies. I am in PT and have been for about 5 weeks. The way my Orthopedic Surgeon explained it is that the sciatic nerve runs through the pelvic area and lower back, so a lot of the times SI Joint problems imitate sciatica. I also have a disc bulge, but we don't know which one is really causing the problems. The doctors are so confused also...
  11. I can totally relate to this! I am 17 also and my anemia was so low I had to have iron IV treatments because the same thing happened to me, except I had problematic periods. Does she...are they heavy? That was a problem at first, but then it was just unexplained anemia because I hadn't had me period for 6 months and was still really anemic. Longggggg story...
  12. I made some Bob's Red Mill cookies yesterday. They were so GROSS! I am wondering if anyone has a recipe for a gooey Gluten-free Casein-free chocolate chip cookie? I would like to be able to use the Bob's Red Mill gluten-free Flour Mix so I don't have to make my own mix. Kassandra
  13. I don't know if this is Celiac related at all because it is a joint problem. I was told by my dr. the other day that I have a problem with my SI joint when they had thought it was a disc bulge that was causing all the problems. It turns out I have to have ANOTHER cortisone epidural for it (I had 2 for the disc bulge which they thought was the problem.) Since...
  14. About the diuretic, I called my gyno concerned about the thirst and she said that the pill's have a diuretic affect. I guess maybe they aren't actual diuretics, but they have the affects of them. This is why some people lose weight when they go on the pill, they lose water weight. (Or they're so nauseous they stop eating the same amount ) Kassandra
  15. I think the reason I am getting cramps is because I'm really bad about taking it the same time every night, and since it's a really low dose of hormones, I read that you can get breakthrough bleeding easily. I haven't, but I wonder if my body thinks it's getting my period, so I am getting cramps. I don't have the cramps for almost the whole day and they're...
  16. No problem. I plan to have meetings every couple months. One again before the holidays that you may be able to go to? Kassandra
  17. That's really cool! I hope more schools will follow suit and do things like this. I am so nervous about going to college food-wise! Kassandra
  18. If you know anybody who is interested, let me know. I have a long list from a celiac place with lots of names, so I will be contacting them. I am thinking of having a meeting in the first week of september. I'll let you know. Kassandra BTW, do you have an email?
  19. I am about to finish my first pack of Yaz. I also took Yasmin about a year ago, and I hated it! I was under the impression that they are a little different. I could be wrong, but I thought that's what my dr. told me. The only reason I would even try the Yaz was because it was different. I have had a few side effects, but not weight gain, no break outs, etc...
  20. I am on Yaz and I am Gluten-free Casein-free. I didn't know it has casein until just now when I looked. Have you taken a pill with casein in it? I am really sensitive, but it doesn't bother me. But you have to do what's right for you. It is gluten free though. Kassandra
  21. Hello, I am 17 and I am obviously in High School. I live in Studio City which is not that far from UCLA...about 25 minutes. I am in the process of starting a support group for Celiac Teens. I don't know if you'd be interested...it will be for kids/teens 12-20? If you want, I will keep you posted. My email is knshore@hotmail.com if you ever want to talk...
  22. I really like the idea of a spa party! They have a pool, so that may be fun! She is a REALLY mature 11 year old, so most of the ideas I tell her she looks at me like...DUH! LOL! She is great, but coming up with a theme that she likes is almost impossible. Also, since we live in L.A. and a lot of her friends are kids of actors/producers, they all have totally...
  23. I just wanted to say that my mom recently went to a Health Institute which is completely raw and she came back with terrible stomach problems. When I went to my dr. before we knew about Celiac, he told me to AVOID raw foods because they are harder to digest. That's just what I was told. Kassandra
  24. I think sugar products are making me really nauseous. I haven't been this nauseous since I was pre-gluten-free. Ugh!! Does anyone else have this? Kassandra
  25. Can you post the link so I can find it? Thanks!! Kassandra
