  1. I would say to stick it out. Some people say it can take up to 6 months! So, hang in there. Also have you made sure to get rid of nonstick pots/pans, plastic strainer, plastic cooking utensils? You may still be getting glutened. Also, a lot of people go on a rice chicken fruits and vegetables diet for awhile until they feel better. Finally, dairy may be problematic...
  2. I just wanted to say, you have the right to get a hold of the gluten tests and if you want to post them here, we'll help you interpret them. Now, I don't know why your doctor is sending you for an ultrasound. Mine did that and I found out later they can't do anything with the results unless you have a tumor (they basically send you for one when they don't...
  3. Thanks for all the suggestions. She is not a total girly-girl. We live in L.A. so it is almost 100 degrees right now. They also have a pool in their backyard. I will have to talk to her and see what she says. Kassandra
  4. I live in L.A. and babysit an 11 year old girl. We are struggling to come up with ideas. Last year we did a Willy Wonka theme and everything was candy...it was great! But, we have no idea what to do this year? Btw, no dietary restrictions, so that won't be a concern. Kassandra
  5. I dont know if you have ever made a Pavlova, but they are amazing! If you look it up on google, you'll find recipes and then you could easily color it pink. The only thing is that usually you put whipped cream on top, so I don't know exactly how you'd substitute that, but I'm sure there is a way. Also, if you want me to I can post a really good recipe for...
  6. I just wanted to say you should be careful with Aveeno because a lot of their stuff has oats, etc. in it. Just wanted to give you a head's up! Kassandra
  7. I have a really hard time digesting fatty foods. They are just too "heavy" for my stomach to break down. Kassandra
  8. Thanks for the reply! I went tonite and got a few cookie cutters so I could try experimenting with foods. I am going to a support group for teens soon and I thought it would be a neat idea to bring some pics of my experimentations. I am really artsy and crafty so this is RIGHT up my alley! Thanks again. Kassandra
  9. I must say, I am 17 and am always looking for ideas for lunch and this is such a great way to be really healthy and not feel totally different because the foods are just healthy...you can't even tell they're Gluten-free Casein-free! I am Gluten-free Casein-free also, so this is GREAT! My one question, does the tuna "contaminate" the strawberries if packed...
  10. I just wanted to say...I used to be DEATHLY afraid of being put out or in any altered state. Then a month ago I was hospitalized and had to have a procedure and they put me in the twilight state and it was not a big deal at all! I promise...it's not that scary at all. I don't remember anything other than the oxygen mask (was only oxygen...no laughing gas...
  11. I have been researching extreme thirst! I am SO THIRSTY!!! I have been gluten-free for about 2 1/2 months. This is a new thing that is going on. I have NEVER had this before. I am so thirsty I am waking up numerous times in the middle of the night to get water. I also don't want ANYTHING but water which is new because I usually never want any water; only...
  12. Meg44, The blood tests are NOT 100% accurate. I can understand how hard it is when one is in High School because I am in it myself. The only reason I am able to do it and stay strong about it is because I was SO ill for such a long time, I could never really go to school for a whole day! So, being gluten free is the best thing for me. Is she still eating...
  13. EllieKate, The only thing that I would have to say is do YOU want a diagnosis? I went gluten free and now am stuck without a formal diagnosis. I started a thread kind of about this. Here's the link... click here The suggestion I would make to you would be stay on gluten, but that's just IMO. It's really up to you, but as you'll see an official diagnosis...
  14. If you want to find out if you have celiac...make SURE you don't take gluten out of your diet! Kassandra
  15. This sounds really good...but do you think we could make substitutions for all dairy products? Kassandra
  16. I am not pregnant and have never been, but I have experience of being in the hospital while on a gluten-free diet. If I were you, try to see if you can call ahead and talk to a nutritionist because when I was hospitalized I did get glutened a lot!!! It was ridiculous how they didn't know how to keep a sick patient from getting sicker! I believe all hospitals...
  17. I just wanted to say that if you go gluten free, it will be really hard to get a good diagnosis. It is totally up to you, but just keep that in mind. One must be ingesting gluten in order for the tests to come out correctly. Kassandra
  18. My hematologist told me you definitely can take in too much iron. I had iron IV's and he checked my blood every day after one IV treatment to make sure I didn't get too much iron. Kassandra
  19. Here is the phone number if you want to call and ask. This is what it said under the FAQ's for food allergies... Who do I call with food allergy questions? If you have certain allergy concerns, please feel free to call our Food and Beverage Department at 310-342-5000. Kassandra
  20. dmack, I'm glad you didn't have the ice cream either!! It is possible to develop it quickly. There are some threads on this site that talk about what you think triggered your celiac. As far as the gluten reaction getting worse, that's not what really happens. When you get "glutened" after being gluten free, the reactions are much worse! When you have...
  21. dmack, If you do have a gluten problem, you can't take the food out of the inside of a sandwich. It will be "contaminated" with gluten. Food must never TOUCH gluten otherwise it is contaminated. That may be the reason you were feeling symptomatic. Kassandra
  22. Just thought I'd add that In-N-Out's fries are made in Cottonseed Oil. Kassandra
  23. Wow! I totally relate! I am a very small waisted person. My usually 26 inch waist "expands" to about 31-2 inches when I get glutened. I also LOVE empire waisted tops because they hide my "pregnant looking tummy" It is also really hard for me because I am so small, so it REALLY looks like I'm pregnant! Now what I'm dealing with is my dr. took a Celiac panel...
  24. I don't know if the list is still around. Could someone who maybe receieved the list email it if the original person can't? knshore@hotmail.com Kassandra
  25. MLynn, I just wanted to say that I completely understand. I was "gluten lite" for a while and then I had so many health problems, I had to go completely gluten FREE! There is a definite mourning process. I still do get frustrated (I have been gluten-free for only about 2 1/2 months) but it is really a much healthier lifestyle. I have embraced this and...
