  1. My first day of trying the olive oil--it was very successful and very quick. I bought a good quality cold pressed virgin olive oil. Took about a good tablespoon on an empty stomach first thing in the morning and started to sip on a cup of hot water. Within a few minutes it worked very well. Hope it works consistently! For now I'm pleased with an...
  2. Welcome Michelle, Philibuster and bye bye gluten. Intolerance to grains and corn can be discovered many ways. There are various ways to test. The best and cheapest is to do an elimination diet where you go off the food totally for a week to 10 days (no tiny amounts should slip in) then challenge it by eating the food. Monitor your symptoms carefully...
  3. Since there is a relationship between celiac and diabetes this makes sense. I also have weight gain as a symptom of celiac. I agree with the malnourishment comment. Another factor is inflammation response. I also lost weight very gradually and steadily on gluten-free diet even though before I could only lose weight on a very strict low carb diet. After...
  4. Interesting, I also have been unable to now use the same dose of oral magnesium that I have been using all along until starting SCD (wasn't needing it for awhile after starting SCD). After trying it again, I have dropped it because it seemed to making me have more "spastic" type constipation rather than helping like it did before (maybe because before SCD...
  5. Interesting discussion here. I do think there is the potential of "hiding" though, Deb. Over time since going gluten-free what I have realized is that my immune system was repressed, and it has been waking up so to speak. Years ago I had lots of allergic reactions to foods and environmental allergens. Then it got better, and was easier to live with...
  6. I am giving a new thing a try for constipation to see what happens. It is olive oil first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Has anybody tried that before? It would be SCD safe is my thought! It may be that I am just impatient; after all we know that intestinal healing takes 1-2 years. I just wish I could get more regular. My concern about...
  7. Dawn that's good news. On the apples: I'd try without the spices, without the honey, and then try organic apples before you eliminate them totally. Pinto beans are not SCD legal, as I recall but kidney beans are. Glad that salad worked!
  8. Lisa, I agree. I definitely missed something. Donna, oh no!!! You've really had a long haul with this. Colon cleanse: I think this is useful. The only thing is I think one has to really think about their own health and the method they use to make sure you don't overwhelm your system. The other thing is, if you have a lot of parasites, giving...
  9. Christine, if you are supplementing T3, what I understand is that the TSH level goes down very low like that and is no longer valid as a single test (although many docs don't seem to know that which is weird).
  10. It is possible to be celiac. I think you should for sure rule out tropical sprue. Please post your lyme test information. What test was done? Which lab? If it was a western blot, then post all the band numbers and the results. Might be better to post under the lyme disease thread or put that in your post title, so the "lymies" on the forum will spot...
  11. Gluten free is a healthy diet and ultimately you can make your own choice about it. My thought is that you should seek out a sharp pediatrician and explain your discovery. Once she is gluten free no further testing for celiac is possible. Genetic testing only shows propensity, and you already know she likely has that due to family history.
  12. I agree--those tests are too old to base current treatment on. They can however, provide you with some information that might help you know what to pursue. I can't help you with the acid blockers. I was put on those in series in '06, and had horrible side effects to all of them. Anyway, it was the wrong treatment for my nausea because I had h pylori...
  13. I can't remember for sure who was posting with so many food intolerances that wasn't getting better. Might have been you Dawn, but seems like someone else too?? Just wanted to mention to be sure to treat for parasites. Also, there are some folk who are finding out that genetic issues with enzymes can cause major food problems. Rachel24 is really...
  14. Making tomato sauce from scratch: Wash tomatos and take out the stem. Place in a large pot with the spot where the stem was removed toward the bottom of the pot. Continue stacking tomatos as many as you wish to fill the pot. Add just enough water to the bottom of the pot so that it can boil, the tomatos will start adding to the liquid. Simmer until...
  15. Hi Geoff, I think there are a few things I would try before going to Mayo (which also could be a "zero" as far as help goes.) Since you are diagnosed celiac, there are a number of problems pretty common to us. First of all I would try going off dairy, then if that doesn't help, go off soy as well. If no change, then I would try the specific carbohydrate...
  16. Fantastic update Kassandra! I think it is good to finish the lyme treatment and stay on a basic protocol and stuff. We don't get rid of it and stay rid of it that easily. Maybe the Bionic will be the answer for us all though! Meanwhile, I agree that it is so great that facing the emotional stuff has been what helped you turn the corner. Good lessons...
  17. Yes, Jin. For anything that we are uncomfortable about. I posted the link above. The links that Nora posted will work as well I think. The guy that writes this is Gary Craig. But it has bits and pieces of a lot of formal counseling therapies and Chinese medicine principles, etc. With emotions, we have to be willing to "see" the various underlying...
  18. I think it is worth a try. Here's the link for you all. Open Original Shared Link You have to sign up for the newsletter so you can download. Sherry
  19. I think I give some people this impression too, though it isn't intended.
  20. I'm totally on the shy side as well until I get to know people. Its exhausting to be in constant groups of people, even though I function okay if I have a clear role in the group. It's not having a role, just visiting or trying to strike up conversations with people I don' t know is hard. I don't notice physical reactions though.
  21. BTVC book just says black spots on the banana skin. Apparently not ripe ones have too high a carb content, I forget the specific explanation.
  22. Its concerning that this list is growing. Maybe Rachel24 will post about genetic issues about enzymes, this could be what you are dealing with at least partially. I wonder if the SCD (specfic carbohydrate diet) approach would work for you? It eliminates most of what you mention above and is designed to help heal the gut.
  23. Maybe I need to try your mixture, LOL!
  24. Unfortunately there are numerous causes of fatigue. These are all good suggestions so far. How long have you been gluten free? Knowing where you are in the healing process might help. For me, lack of carb digestive enzymes (made in the villi) caused a lot of problems and prevented healing. After 15 mo I went on the SCD and got a lot of relief. But...
  25. Actually you don't have to do it right when it happens in front of anyone. Just later, think of the situation and follow the manual. Keep doing it daily until you notice that the problem stops.
