ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
mftnchn replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Pele, looks like you are from my home area... A couple of things I have gleaned from reading some emails and answers by Elaine. It seems that some things are eliminated because there wasn't enough information on the food's composition (including changes by genetic engineering) to be sure it was safe. Some have clear reasons to eliminate but complex explanations... -
ARCHIVED New Here - Need Help With Labs And Questions
mftnchn replied to leeirons's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I want to mention that it sounds like you are very lucky in your choice of gastroenterologist, most would write it off from what I pick up here. I'd do the biopsy, it could make the determination without a question. From there I'd say the blood work is suspicious. Enterolab could help but I'd wait until after the biopsy, you can do Enterolab any time... -

April, be sure to look over www.pecanbread.com as well. Then there are questions and answers by the author of the book posted that cover a lot of odds and ends. All helpful in addition to the book. I am feeling much better on this diet. Sherry -

Carla, it is going to be so amazing if getting rid of the mattress is the final answer! On the mold theme--I think this may have gotten me good yesterday. I have been making and using goat milk yogurt just fine in the US; made my first batch here this week, and my first cupful with a little honey and I became so ill. All day yesterday and still today... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
mftnchn replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I know what you mean. I do have a glimmer of hope that I realized this morning. I *think* I gave my mold allergy shot around the same time, and this reaction would be typical for that. I could very well suddenly not be able to handle the shot--its happened many times before with my shots, and this year especially. So I will still test the components... -
ARCHIVED No Grains, Nightshades, Legumes And Dairy, Sounds Familiar?
mftnchn replied to Aleksa's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I've taken a little different tack though I too had few digestive symptoms, but the testing showed a serious problem. So I have done the SCD intro and kept the adding of foods very slow. I notice that I feel better on the foods closer to the intro side of the spectrum. My symptoms that have improved hugely have been fatigue, brain fog, plus better quality... -
I've struggled with weight too and I don't think I have all the answers but...I am one who lost weight after going gluten-free and SF. What I have learned is that the malabsorption I had from the celiac put my body in starvation mode, and it just would soak up everything I ate and turn it to fat. I have still been losing but slowed down a lot, and still...

ARCHIVED I Have The Gene....
mftnchn replied to givenupgluten's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I say I am celiac. If I am asked further questions, such as by a knowledgeable health care provider, I lay out all the evidence I have. I was overseas and unable to get the blood tests and biopsy before going gluten-free so I don't have the typical gold standard diagnosis. However this summer I saw a new PCP who takes only celiac or gluten intolerant... -
ARCHIVED No Grains, Nightshades, Legumes And Dairy, Sounds Familiar?
mftnchn replied to Aleksa's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I'd have to second the suggestion to try SCD as it does eliminate your problem foods and there is a structured approach to the diet with recipes and stuff. Also if you follow the intro, there are only a few foods for 5 days and then if you add one at a time you pretty much have a very good elimination diet. The food intolerance combinations seem to be pretty... -

Good advice here. Enterolab results will take about 3 weeks probably. Hope things are better soon. For travel ideas there are TONS of posts here. Start to learn how to search this forum and almost any question you have you'll find some responses already here for you to read. -
ARCHIVED What's Best For Constipation?
mftnchn replied to mama2two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I take the Natural Calm and it helps me. You've had some good advice here. I'll add two ideas: My own celiac symptom is the big C. I've tried a lot of things and fiber really didn't help other than increase stool volume. I could eat 2-3 cups of prunes and it wouldn't faze me except I might have gas. It was because I was looking for more ideas that... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
mftnchn replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Oh I became so very ill today! I came back to Asia (I work here) in the last several days, made my goat milk yogurt with Kirkman lactobacillus acidophilus (SCD safe), added a little honey and drank a cup for breakfast today. This is something I have been having regularly in the USA. Immediate reaction and very ill all day. Now I have to trace each component... -

Carla, how appalling! Boy do you have a case for the lawsuit! Kassandra, I am so sorry to hear this. Don't lose hope, maybe one of the doctors will really do some research that will find an answer. Sherry -
ARCHIVED New Here. Not Sure If It's Celiac Or Gluten Intolerance
mftnchn replied to Abbizzy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome Ann, and lucky you to get in on free testing! Hopefully having tasted of the better life, you'll be back regardless of your test results. You need to know that there are a significant number of false negatives, but a positive is for sure. If you don't eat gluten up until your test you are more likely to test negative. Let us know how this... -
Just a comment that it appears like I'm going to have major improvement with this since my switch to SCD diet. It is gluten-free of course, but also free of most of the things you just mentioned, CMCM. Bloating and good BM evacuation are really improving. I am still a bit overweight and not so young so I am not sure yet to what degree this will improve...

Ali, are you using dairy in the SCD yogurt? You mention it in your signature, I'm just not remembering what you said about it in the posts. -

Further comments on the SCD: I'm also really pleased with my weight loss on this diet; it continues what started on gluten-free but has been quicker on SCD. I'm down a whole size or more from when I went to the US the end of June. Not that everyone would lose on this, but I am very carbohydrate sensitive as far as weight goes. Donna, I was thinking... -

Yes things have been quiet. I've been glad because I have been too busy to get here to read very much. I had to reinstall everything again on my computer due to a software problem, so am still getting it up and working. I am finally home and am over my herx today, so am feeling quite well. The muscle and joint soreness is also better. While traveling... -

Just caught up reading, have arrived on this side and travel home by bus tomorrow; I restarted Zith on Saturday (had to pick it up because I had put my supply in storage at my son"s) and whoah! Feels like a mjor herx, I feel totally wiped and low grade fever. My son and family had the flu last week so I was exposed but all of the and my son's MIL had... -

mftnchn replied to A&Z'S MOM's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I had some gradual improvement in stools after gluten-free but after 15 months my doctor rescently put me on the SCD. I have had a significant response to this diet. You could check out the stories on www.pecanbread.com -

I've heard that you can have someone else bounce, even sit on it and bounce, and put your feet on it while they are doing it, and it is very beneficial for you--just even doing that much. Sherry
