ARCHIVED Gluten-free Dining In Northern Virginia
terri replied to terri's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks Angel! I ate at PF Changs yesterday at Tysons and came equipped with my gluten free menu. What a great experience! I asked her if they honored it and she said all their restaurants across the country do. She didn't even have to take my card to the kitchen. It was no big deal just brought out wonderful lemon scallops and I was delighted! I had diet... -
Just wanted to share with anyone in the Fairfax County or Loudoun County some positive and negative experiences I've had recently. Take today, went to Amphora Restaurant with 2 friends and presented my dining card to the waiter and told him I was only going to have a salad but felt better if the Chef saw my card. The Manager comes over and refused to serve...

ARCHIVED Trying To Figure This Out/getting Sick
terri replied to j9n's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Speaking of fake butter stuff, Smartbeat is gluten free. I like their squeeze stuff. It's only 5 calories! Of course as I don't eat bread, I just use it on potatoes and veggies. The only bread I eat is the Buthanese Red Rice and it lasts me months. I'd rather have my sandwich on a Lundberg wild rice cake spead with cream cheese and topped with meat, tomatoes... -

He also added 2 types of cheese, artichokes and sour cream. He used Daisy Sour Cream so that's okay. All the lists I have say Kraft Mayo- regular only is gluten free but you have a great point about cross contamination! I bet there were tons of bread crumbs in there. I have never personally read the label of any Kraft Mayo as I'm a Hellman's fan. Who knows... -

Here is the response I got from Pantene. I think it should be fine, don't you? (My question) Are your products gluten and wheat free? I need to know before I purchase any... Discussion Thread --------------------------------------------------------------- Response (Monika) - 07/02/2004 02:21 PM Thanks for contacting Pantene, Terri. We know... -

One little bit of gluten can make you feel ill for quite a long time. My son-in-law made the artichoke dip for Sunday and rather than use the ingredients my daughter had laid out for him (like Hellman's mayo) he decided to use the Kraft light that was already opened. Well, that's not safe for us (their regular is tho') and I still feel awful! Burping, expelling... -
ARCHIVED Reactions To Wine
terri replied to j9n's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you haven't reacted to the sulfites in wine before (which I understand give you a terrible headache if you're sensitive to them) then I don't think you would be now. You might have eaten something or gotten cross contamination from another source which made you ill, not the wine. It's almost impossible to tell sometimes what exactly it is. I had a 24 hour... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Make-up?
terri replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here is the reply I got from Estee Lauder: Dear Ms. Terri, Thank you for contacting us regarding the ingredients in our products that might be unsuitable for you to use because of your specific condition. We are attaching a list of grain-derived ingredients, found on our labels, which will be helpful in providing you direction. This information... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Make-up?
terri replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I contacted Lancome and they told me all their products are gluten free but of course they're not responsible for any cross contamination of their products. I use them all the time. I also use eyeliner, both Elizabeth Arden and Estee Lauder. I have a printout Estee Lauder sent me that lists all their gluten containing ingredients and check with the eyeliner... -
I've always loved to cook but never could bake. I've found that I've had to make only a few modifications on my cooking. Sure, there are some recipes I chucked (for example all those Bisquick easy ones) but for the most part I've always made most things from scratch which works well for us. Now, though, I am going to learn to bake because I WILL have my cookies...

Thanks for all the encouragement. This board is my lifeline. celiac3270, I want you to know that I am eating crow! The people called me Friday night to ask what kind of mayo and catsup I could eat and then when I got there, showed me that they had deep fried a turkey and made a dip of real cream cheese and fresh chives and served it with fresh veggies, they...

ARCHIVED Why to be careful with Lotions, makeup, shampoos etc.
terri replied to kalo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow, that is strange about the Garnier Fructis. The lady told me in early June that all their products are gluten-free. And, if you read the label, it appear so. I guess you never know! As for face cream, when I called Lancome they said all their products are gluten-free but of course there is always a risk of cross contamination from somewhere (I think they... -
ARCHIVED Planters Nuts
terri replied to beelzebubble's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Bridget! I have a pack here at work in my drawer and now I won't be nervous munching them! -
I have an anniversary party to go to tomorrow where there will be tons of food. I am bringing mexican cheese dip and tortilla chips but when I asked if I could bring my own dinner the answer was no. So, I will eat heartily at lunch and hide a tuna & rice cake sandwich in my car that I can sneak out and eat. But, I can see me doing the same thing tomorrow...

Sorry to hear you're feeling ill. If the cashews were dry roasted then they could have been dusted with flour. That might have caused your reaction. Terri -
I checked out the menu of the Bonefish Grill and ascertained that they do have a flame grill. Looks very promising! Also if you have a Ned Devines Irish restaurant, they are the ultimate gluten friendly! They make their own potatoes and mash them with milk and butter and their steaks and meats are not pre-marinated and they bend over backwards to please....

ARCHIVED Got Some Questions About Gf Living.
terri replied to Alexolua's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the information! My reaction to latex is a severe rash where contact occured. For example if I wear platex gloves or use a bandaid my skin will break out in a nasty rash. I've never had any other type of symptoms so I must have the chemical allergy you mentioned. The problem with root beer as I understand it is the malt. Hence the name root beer... -
I contacted TCBY about their frozen yogurt and would like to share their response. Dear Terri, Thank you for your recent e-mail message. Below is a list of TCBY flavors that do not specifically contain wheat, oats, barley, or rye. However, please keep in mind that all frozen yogurt and sorbet items contain natural flavors that may be derived from...

ARCHIVED Got Some Questions About Gf Living.
terri replied to Alexolua's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi! Bigapplekathleen you mentioned you were latex free (no bananas). What do you mean by that? I am allergic to latex. How do bananas figure into that? I have one in my bag for a snack later on! Yikes, should I avoid them? Thanking you in advance. Terri -

I bought Retrohair shampoo and conditioner at the salon after reading every ingredient. NO WHERE did they mention gluten or wheat. Today, I called them just to make sure and guess what? All their products contain wheat protein! This really drives home the importance of contacting the manufacturers to me! I was curious as my hands are breaking out. Now I know... -
ARCHIVED Shampoos/conditioners
terri replied to Donna F's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I went round and round with them and finally they said that the Color Vive was gluten-free but not necessarily the other Vive shampoos. So, be sure to double check. I talked to Garnier Fructus and they said ALL their products are gluten free. So, they are a pretty safe bet. I think the Dove Products are okay. At least the color treated ones are. Someone said... -
ARCHIVED Marshmellows
terri replied to terri's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks! I'd appreciate it. I just called Kitchen Bouquet who makes a gravy aid and they told me all their products contain gluten. So, guess I'll get creative with my gravies! -
I'm thinking of making Ambrosia (or 5 cup salad) and am curious if Marshmellows are gluten-free? I have the Daisy sour cream which is gluten-free, the angel flake coconut which is, and the canned fruit (in juice, of course) so I'd be set if the marshmellow are. Has anyone checked on them? Thanks! Terri in Virginia

ARCHIVED California Rolls
terri replied to j9n's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well. I guess I could. Am doing great with stir frys! Maybe I should try to make gluten-free egg rolls and wontons. I wonder if there's already a website that sells that? Maybe I could quit work and become a gluten-free oriental supplier! (Just kidding). -
ARCHIVED California Rolls
terri replied to j9n's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I went to Whole Foods and picked up a package of their Sushi rolls and wheat flour was listed. Trader Joes however, says their veggie rolls are gluten-free but their soy sauce packet isn't. What I want to know is, is the Wasabi paste gluten-free? I want the wasabi with my veggie roll. ( I know, picky, picky). Does anyone have any ideas? Has anyone ordered...
