  1. Twinings and Gevalier said that all their teas are gluten free. Celestial Seasonings has several that aren't gluten-free including their Ginseng Energy, Almond, and Vanilla teas. Red Rose tea is gluten free. I guess you can tell I'm an avid tea drinker! Most tea companies use heat to seal their bags but some use glue. Those we have to avoid. So it is best...
  2. Good luck with the Endoscopy celiac3270!
  3. Hi Lisa, Yep! I work in Tysons Corner and as you know, Vienna couldn't get any closer. My husband works in Chantilly. Small world. I think that six degrees of separation theory really works! My husband probably knows your brother, ha ha. I read some more on the goat milk cow milk thing. A lot of people who are allegic to cow's milk are also allegic to goat...
  4. I agree! Amphora is banned from my life! I did have a good experience yesterday. Went to Clydes in Reston for lunch. I wanted the buffalo burger sans bun and french fries. I was so excited when the waiter said they had a dedicated french fry fryer I could hardly contain myself!! Well, then he comes back and said that they bread the trout on the table next...
  5. Hi, Sorry I took so long to reply but 3 days off will do that! No one in my family has ever had diabetes so that's a relief! Goat cheese has casein also but not the alpha casein that cow's milk has. Goat milk is far closer to human milk than cow's milk is. I have had zero reaction to the goat cheese and I've been eating a lot of it! Someone mentioned...
  6. I've been doing the soy free and casein free diet (in addition to gluten-free) for 6 days now. I wouldn't be able to make it without the goat cheese. It doesn't have the bad casein like cow's milk does. It's still hard though, I miss my cottage cheese but already I feel a whole lot better. I should have done this 5 months ago when I went gluten-free, but...
  7. Does anyone have any information on Cornmeal? Are all brands gluten free? I know Quaker makes it and several others, but do we run the same risks of cross contamination from flour as we do with oats that are processed in the same plant as flour? I've looked on the gluten free mall and pantry but haven't found just plain cornmeal. Whole Foods sells Bob's Mill...
  8. Good afternoon. Yes, both our seafood and blackening spices are gluten free. 9. I can't remember what brand as I only sampled them at the Celiac Conference. You can order them from the Gluten Free Pantry and perhaps the Gluten Free Mall as well.
  10. Mission white corn tortillas can be bought in the grocery store. The bagels you'll have to order over the internet. I tasted one at a Celiac fair and couldn't tell the difference! The English muffins on the other hand need some work! Last night I pitted and halved cherries and mixed them with shredded carrots and chopped green onions, a little teriyaki sauce...
  11. I started with the same thing Sunday morning! Only no smell, but other than that, it seems the same. Wonder what it is?
  12. Did you make the recipe on the lasagna box? I'm thinking of trying it. I made the Tinkyada stuffed shells with my pre gluten recipe and they came out great!

    ARCHIVED Soy Reaction?

Thanks Burdee, I had a much better day yesterday without the soy until I had a diet pepsi and bingo uncontrollable gas and indigestion again. So, I'm going to try Diet Rite which is sweetened with Splenda instead of aspertame and see if I get the same reaction. I'm bound and determined to get my body issues down to those of a regular joe! Thanks for your...
  14. Charlotte, The trick is to never tell them you're making a gluten-free meal! They will never know, believe me. Wait for a month or 2 then let them know they've been eating gluten free if you want to. I think just the sound of it scares them. Bake them cookies but use Pamela's mixes and they'll never be the wiser. I served our company homemade bread I made...

    ARCHIVED Soy Reaction?

Thanks Richard. I just can't seem to shake the flatulence and indigestion. I had my gallbladder ultrasound and it's fine so it must be digestive. I'm trying to figure out what could be doing it ...
  16. Whenever I eat the Energyz pretzels I get horrible heartburn and gas. I also have been noticing it when I eat soybeans or other foods containing soy. Is it typical of a Celiac to show sensitivities to soy? The reaction is very similar to a gluten reaction only it is much shorter lived and no diarrhea is involved. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!
  17. Pace mild enchilada sauce is gluten free. The recipe on the back is simple and very tasty! Buy mission corn tortillas. I agree that you should just cook gluten-free for everyone. I do and have never had a complaint yet!
  18. I meant sucralose, not sorbitol, but sorbitol has the laxative effect. I don't know if they are related or not. All I know is Splenda is made from sugar and supposedly has no known side effects and is safer than aspertame. It is pricey though. I have also heard good things about Stevia but never tried it.
  19. I've been using Splenda since it came out and have had no ill effects. I must drink 6 to 8 cups of tea (both herbal and caffenated) and use Splenda for all of them. Plus, I have it in my drink at lunch ( the Sparkling Rain). I'm more afraid of the side effects associated with aspertame although I do drink that in diet pepsi. I measured out one time how much...
  20. Has anyone had any luck at Champps? I called the one in Reston and asked if I could get a gluten free meal there and explained what I needed to the girl who answered the phone. Quite a while elasped before she came back and told me "Sorry, we don't have that here". I'm just wondering if it's worth going over there to talk to someone...
  21. Mine have totally got me stumped. First one on gluten-free diet was heavier than most and early. Second was almost non-existant. Third hasn't come at all! I'm 54 and haven't had any signs of menopause. Maybe Celiac kept it at bay and finally now it's come? I am at a loss and don't know what to think! If it is menopause. bring it on! Just no symptons like...
  22. celiac3270, I'm sorry to hear you have to be on such a restricted diet, but if it works it will be worth it I'm sure. I've been racking my brains to think of what you could eat for snacks. Obviously, meals will be lots of meat and vegetables or soups (homemade), but for snacks, dipping broccoli in hummus is really quite tasty, stuffing pea pods with cream...
  23. I have been searching for a gluten-free Black bean sauce as it's a key ingredient in my Kung Pao Chicken. I finally found one by Sun Luck that looked promising. I wrote them and thought I would share their response. Thank you for your email. The products we have that are made from gluten-free ingredients: Plum Sauce Black Bean Garlic Sauce*...
  24. Alexolua, I use Mission Corn tortillas. They are gluten free and are most likely processed on dedicated lines. Any others I've tried I have had a reaction to but Mission has a gluten free statement, etc. on their website. They are best heated for about 10 seconds each side on an ungreased skillet over medium high heat but being lazy, I just nuke them.
  25. Hi Guys, For breakfast I take 1/4 cup of eggbeaters and add a little chopped onion and hot pepper to it and nuke it for 30 seconds, stir and 25 seconds more. I heat a corn tortilla and put the eggs in there with maybe a little shredded cheese. I also have a piece of bacon. Total calories about 105. I make a big fruit salad every week and nibble on a little...
