ARCHIVED The "I'm Not So Happy Today"- Topic
ravenwoodglass replied to Ellie84's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I used to have a brick and mortar store and since I also had a studio in a seperate section I bought them so I could see when someone came into the store. I got them off Ebay and spent less than a hundred dollars. -
ARCHIVED Yet Another Doctor's Opinion
ravenwoodglass replied to researchmomma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
One thing that needs to be kept in mind is the high false negative rate for blood and biopsies. Someone can still be celiac and have negatives for both. Someone can also be celiac without one of those 2 most common celiac associated genes. I am sorry RM that you are having so much trouble with the doctors. They almost killed me because I am a sero-negative... -

Time to buy or rent some cameras set up aimed at your driveway and yard and set to record. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Alcohol

That is my experience also and the reason why I tell folks to avoid distilled grains until well healed. -
ARCHIVED Help With Blood Result
ravenwoodglass replied to timbalou's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your serum IGA is your total IGA. Yours is low so that would cause a false negative on the other IGA test. Did your doctor run any of the other tests on the celiac panel? -
ARCHIVED Stress Or Arguments Gives Me A Severe Celiac Flare Up!
ravenwoodglass replied to heidi g.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What you experienced I don't think is real uncommon and most likely had nothing to do with gluten. During an arguement or when badly frightened having a 'gut' reaction isn't unusual. It's where we came by saying like 'follow your gut instincts' and a 'gut wrenching experience'. I hope you were able to settle your differences. -
ARCHIVED Is The Ema Test Enough
ravenwoodglass replied to plumbago's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wheat flour remains airborne for up to 2 days so it may have been inhaling gluten particles that got him. We are advised not to cook with wheat flour for others. It is likely eating anything in that home would get a sensitive celiac. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Alcohol
ravenwoodglass replied to alucard4545's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yep. Should have made that clear in my response. If your drinking distilled with no issues then there is no reason not to. IMHO it is something to avoid while still healing though so that there is no confusion about 'what have I eaten or drank that got me or do I have another intolerance' if someone is one of the rather rare celiacs who do react. -

You must be incredibly relieved. So happy for this result. Are they having you taper off the med? Some meds will have less of a withdrawl when tapered but I don't know if that is the case with the one you are taking. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge
ravenwoodglass replied to Hailiesmom08's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do you get up before her? If you do cram in a couple of slices of bread before she wakes up. If not maybe make her some cream of buckwheat for breakfast and you could have cream of wheat. At snack time you could give her some gluten free Snyders pretzels while eating a handful of gluten stick pretzels. Then when she goes to bed or naps you could down another... -

Don't worry about trying to figure out how many grams of gluten is in a food. Just eat a regular gluten filled diet, cereals, bread, pasta, cookies, etc. Just have a gluten ingredient in each meal and snacks. -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to Cher18's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It could be celiac. If your doctors absolutely refuse to test for celiac then you do have the option of doing at least 3 months on the diet to see if it helps. -

Not all of us tolerate distilled gluten. Best to stick with potato vodkas when you are new to the diet. -

Posts like yours are one of the reasons I have stuck around here for so long. We have a lot in common. Boy can I identify with the 'diagnosing based on their specialties'!!!! Many of us have been put through the ringer by doctors that only look at the symptoms that fit their specialty rather than taking in the whole picture. Ask any questions you need to... -
ARCHIVED Can Someone Please Interpret These Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to glutenbatch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You actually have 2 positive. Stay on gluten until the day the endo is done then get on the diet. You don't need to wait on the biopsy results as with a positive on the blood tests you need the gluten free diet no matter what the endo results are. You're in the right place for info and support. -

I used them 5 years after diagnosis and I think the $369 figure includes the gene test and the stool antibody testing. -
ARCHIVED Hoping For Negative Biopsy
ravenwoodglass replied to Daisy227's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
False negative rates are pretty high for biopsies and for blood work. Your doctor is a good one for telling you to try the diet. You say you are feeling better on the diet so do keep with it even if the tests are negative. It is common for us not to be able to digest dairy at first. After you have healed a bit you will most likely be able to add it back in... -
ARCHIVED Aim Toothpaste Gluten Free?
ravenwoodglass replied to redensen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know for sure about the toothpaste. Do you mean Garneir shampoo and conditioner? If so then just read the label as they will clearly label gluten ingredients. I use their products daily. Suave and Dove will also clearly label gluten ingredients. -

ARCHIVED How Much Gluten To Eat Before Blood Test?
ravenwoodglass replied to Mary07's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just eat a regular diet. Most folks on a normal diet eat at least the 4 slice of bread worth of gluten in a day and then some. Have a gluten cereal for breakfast, a sandwich or sub or a soup with noodles or barley for lunch and something with gluten for dinner and snacks. I wouldn't worry about 'adding up the protein count' since many foods have more than... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Alcohol
ravenwoodglass replied to alucard4545's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Redbridge is truly gluten free it is made from sorghum and has no barley at all. The Estrella is made with barley but it is 'processed out' and personally I wouldn't touch it any more than I would drink a regular Budweiser. -

You should talk to your child's ped. Tell him what the GI doctor said and about the improvements you have so far seen for both your child and yourself. Chances are the ped has seen your child's health issues on gluten and may give you a 'diagnosis' to keep her safe at school without either of you having to go back on gluten when it is clear her problems are... -
If you haven't already do get the sublingual B12. Glad to hear the tummy issues have cleared up but be aware that it does take a bit longer for the neuro issues to resolve. Do get copies of the B12 levels. Doctors used to have the cut off at 250 but now they are saying the cut off before suppelements should be 500 but not all doctors are up on that. In addition...

If you have a scanner scan the packaging and send the pics to them. If it was missed in the printing of the package then they need to know about it.
