ARCHIVED The Results Are In
ravenwoodglass replied to Buffheart's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In addition to what Mushroom said had you been gluten free before the second scope and blood tests? If you were they should be negative results. If you are gluten free is the diet helping? That's the most important thing. -
ARCHIVED Am I Being Glutened?
ravenwoodglass replied to suziq0805's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My thought was soy also. It isn't uncommon for us to also have issues with soy come to the forfront after we have gone gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Dh And Future Children
ravenwoodglass replied to gunny7's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Celiac disease is genetic and DH is the skin form of celiac. However not everyone who has the genes develops celiac/DH. If you want children don't let having DH/celiac stop you. Not only may they never develop celiac but if you are diagnosed you will be alert for signs and will know to have them screened periodically for celiac. -
ARCHIVED New Here Horrible Left Abdominal Pain
ravenwoodglass replied to matt6965's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you been tested for celiac while you were still eating gluten? You have to be eating a regular gluten filled diet for the tests to be accurate. You mention you notice the pain when eating gluten, soy and dairy. It sounds like you may be intoleant of all of them if they bring on the pain and D. If you want to be tested for celiac then you need to... -
ARCHIVED For Those That Are Gluten Free Oat Intolerent
ravenwoodglass replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for going through the trouble of contacting and posting the results from these companies for us. -
ARCHIVED Duhring Disease - Can You Give Me Some Tips?
ravenwoodglass replied to gunny7's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I will admit that I had to look up Duhring Disease, I didn't know dermatitis herpeformis (DH) had any other names. Yes you do need the diet. A diagnosis of DH is a diagnosis of celiac and it may be impacting you in ways that you are not aware of yet. You can prevent a great deal of future damage to your bodies other organs, including the brain and liver... -
ARCHIVED New- Understanding Labs
ravenwoodglass replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with the others that you are without a doubt in the right place. You may want to call the GI doctor's office and ask if you can get on the cancellation list if your schedule is flexible enough to go in on short notice. In my humble opinion it is up to you whether you want to scope or not as you do need the diet no matter the results. If damage is... -
ARCHIVED So Gassy And Gurgly Even Though Gluten-Free!
ravenwoodglass replied to GFathlete's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What are you typically eating? You may have an additional intolerance showing up and those won't be found with allergy testing. It may also be that you are just still healing or depending on what, where and how prepared your food is you may be getting a bit of CC. -
ARCHIVED Bored Husband (Funny)
ravenwoodglass replied to IrishHeart's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I needed a laugh today. Thanks for providing one. -
ARCHIVED Other Conditions That React To A Gluten Free Diet
ravenwoodglass replied to MrRoper's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The chances of your being misdiagnosed and actually celiac are really pretty high as the other poster mentioned. Your excellent response to the diet followed strictly is the best 'diagnosis'. Glad to hear you are feeling so much better. Sometimes our bodies give us the answer that doctors can't. -
ARCHIVED Bummer...going Dairy Free
ravenwoodglass replied to Metoo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You might want to eat the rice chex dry and see if you still get bloated. Maybe it was the rice chex and not the milk? If it does turn out to be the dairy you will likely still be able to tolerate butter and some of the dairy replacements are not too bad. Just don't go with Rice Dream rice milk. -
ARCHIVED Rice Grains And Popcorn
ravenwoodglass replied to surfer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My guess would be the popcorn. Did you have anything on it like the 'butter'? I don't know about all theaters but my local one the popcorn is safe but I usually get it plain. It could also have been something else you ate in the last day or two and not have anything to do with either the rices or the popcorn. It can be very hard to figure out what 'got... -
ARCHIVED Medical Card
ravenwoodglass replied to ashlee.ream's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That is something you should talk to your doctor about. It could be helpful for some issues but it does have drawbacks when abused. Celiac is one of the diseases that it is approved for in some states. Your doctor will be able to tell you if it could be useful or suitable for you. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Eye Cream Rec Needed
ravenwoodglass replied to Lilychic's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use the Garneir products for skin and for hair. They label clearly and I really like their skin products. -
ARCHIVED Are These Celiac Symptoms?
ravenwoodglass replied to Twitch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Are you sure it was a virus and not a glutening? After we go gluten free and accidently get gluten our reactions can become stronger. That would also account for the increase in neuro symptoms. -
ARCHIVED Should Mental Recovery Take This Long?
ravenwoodglass replied to bbdailey's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
We can have other issues independant of the celiac. It sounds like the diet has helped you a great deal but you may need some additional help. Have you talked to a counselor or your doctor about this? -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Drugs--How To Evaluate
ravenwoodglass replied to margotb's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Is your anxiety what is keeping you from sleeping? If that is the case you might do better with a low dose of an antianxiety med rather than a sleep aid. I have anxiety and use a minimal dose of alprazolam, the generic form of Xanax. The generic made by Sandoz is safe but name brand Xanax wasn't last time I checked. -
ARCHIVED Steps For A True Elimination Diet
ravenwoodglass replied to JonnyD's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You said your allergist tested you for true allergies. Can you go back and have him give you a starting point for your elimination diet? Not all allergists will do this but that is how I did mine and it was what pinpointed my gluten problems. I had the testing for true allergies then he started me with only 5 foods. No beverages other than water, no spices... -
ARCHIVED Cdsa Results Help (New Here With Some Background Info)
ravenwoodglass replied to Bosmina323's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We do need to avoid bulk bins as the risk of cross contamination is too high. If your home is not totally gluten free do take precautions for in home CC risk also like seperate condiments, butter, toasters, strainers etc. Since you are gluten free already testing is out unless you want to do a 3 month gluten challenge. Even then you could have a false negative... -
ARCHIVED Cdsa Results Help (New Here With Some Background Info)
ravenwoodglass replied to Bosmina323's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As long as you are not yet gluten free go to your regular GP and ask for a celiac panel to be run. You do have to be eating gluten for the test to have any chance at being accurate. False negatives do happen even on a full gluten diet though. It is common for women with celiac to become progressively worse with each pregnancy. It might not be a bad idea to... -

ravenwoodglass replied to Aly1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like Pamela's Baking mix. It does have dairy though. I also use Tom Sawyer brand. -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to Cher18's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do go gluten free after all celiac related testing is done. My neuro was also clueless about UBO's and it cost me years of progressively worse neuro symptoms. I will try and find some of the research on UBO's and post a link. They are considered diagnostic of celiac antibodies that have attacked the brain. It is possible to recover, although some may have... -
ARCHIVED Inconclusive Test Results For Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to CJC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Be aware that gene testing is not diagnostic. There are people with the two most common celiac associated genes that never develop celiac and there are folks firmly diagnosed celiac that don't carry either of those two genes. Gene testing can be part of the diagnostic process but we do still have a lot to learn about the associated genes. The endoscopy...
