ARCHIVED Help With Symptoms + Results
ravenwoodglass replied to DazedAndConfused's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have gotten some good advice already. I just want to add that since you have gone gluten free and seen some improvement that if you do decide to get more testing done do go back on gluten right away and stay on it for a bit before testing to reduce you chances of a false negative. If when you add gluten back in your symptoms become markedly worse that... -
ARCHIVED Severe Pain, Celiac Issue
ravenwoodglass replied to LouiseF's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You say you stay away from meat. Do you consume soy? It may not be the case for you but soy gives me the pain you describe. It took me 5 years to figure it out. Are you eating mostly fresh unprocessed foods? Are you being careful about CC in your home and especially in restaurants? A very few of us are sensitive to distilled gluten in alcohol. Are you someone... -
Do your parents have health insurance? The laws have changed recently and you can be added back onto their policy if you are in college and under 26. If that is not possible do check and see if you qualify for Medicaid. Many qualify but don't realize it. You do not have to take any other assistance if you don't want to.

ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy For Celiac But Symptoms Remain. What Do To Next?
ravenwoodglass replied to tarheel84's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Cream of wheat is a good challenge pick. I used that and triscuits. When you do challenge go with as pure of a form of what you are challenging as possible and do eat the suspect food 3 times a day for a week. If you have celiac or gluten intolerance the reaction can take a few days to hit. If you do react of course drop the item and wait until the reaction... -
ARCHIVED Happy (Re)Birthday To Me!
ravenwoodglass replied to cyberprof's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Happy Birthday!!!!!!! -
I had severe neuro impact. It did take some time to heal but most of my problems did go away with time and being strict with the diet. Some heal more completely than others but many do get a great deal of relief, if not total resolution, from neuro issues. Now that you have had the endo do go strictly gluten free and give it a bit of time. You don't have...

IMHO the best way to see if something is causing you problems is to eliminate it totally for a couple of weeks. If you are then feeling better add back in at least 2 servings a day and see if you react. Intolerances can be delayed so give it a full week before you assume it is okay. With dairy add back hard cheeses and yogurt first as they are lactose free...

ARCHIVED Yet Another "gluten Or Sickness?" Thread
ravenwoodglass replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It may not be the case for you but for me it takes 3 to 4 days for the D to hit. Until you mentioned this I was also thinking flu but the other symptoms you are describing also hit me before the D sets in. One thing you may want to do is pick up a cheap thermometer. I will feel like I have a fever, hot one minute, cold the next but when I take my temp it... -
ARCHIVED Alcohol...why The Issue Now?
ravenwoodglass replied to lucky97's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am one who doesn't tolerate distilled gluten. Next time you want to try a vodka drink go for the potato vodka. You may be able to tolerate those just fine. -
ARCHIVED New To All This
ravenwoodglass replied to haylez's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is overwhelming at first. We are here to try and answer any questions you have. Read as much as you can and know that we do sometimes have ups and downs at first. As the others have stated with the blood results you had you definately need the diet no matter what the results of the biopsy. Hopefully you will soon be feeling much better. -
ARCHIVED Alcohol...why The Issue Now?
ravenwoodglass replied to lucky97's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think you are wise to follow your doctor's advice. If you are still very ill alcohol is something that you can certainly live without. I hope you are soon feeling better. The occasional drink will still be there when you are. -
ARCHIVED Alcohol...why The Issue Now?
ravenwoodglass replied to lucky97's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Without knowing what blood test it was that was slightly abnormal it can't be said for sure, but celiac can impact the liver which would show up in an abnormal liver panel. If that was the case alcohol would be something they would tell you to abstain from for a bit. You might want to ask your doctor for a copy of the lab results. There are some folks that... -
ARCHIVED Hi! New To The Forum!
ravenwoodglass replied to health nut's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board. There are so many things the newly diagnosed have to get used to doing that many in the medical field are not knowledgabe enough about to let them in on. Being celiac yourself you know the 'hoops' we have to jump through to be safe. We will greatly welcome your input and I am sure your patients are already reaping the benefits of your... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Leaching From Egg Noodles Into Broth?
ravenwoodglass replied to DickS's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. Read as much here as you can and ask any questions you needed. The broth from soup with a gluten ingredient is not something we can safely eat. We also can't take a bun off a burger or the toppings off a pizza. It is also unsafe to use the same butter, nut butters, jellies or any other condiment that gluten eaters have used as the... -
ARCHIVED Makeup And Toiletries
ravenwoodglass replied to TLK879's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Personally I avoid it. Since it takes a very small amount of gluten to cause the antibody reaction I feel it is better safe than sorry. -
ARCHIVED One Week So Far, Not Many Changes.
ravenwoodglass replied to Cortney's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hopefully you will be feeling better soon. I had horrible skin from my teen years on I had both DH and acne. My skin did clear up a couple months into being gluten free. I'll keep my fingers crossed yours does too. I also saw a great increase in my mental health. No more depression at all and much more even tempered. Some do get relief from anxiety and... -
ARCHIVED Dr. Says I Don't Have The Celiac Genes?
ravenwoodglass replied to Bubba's Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Perhaps you are one of the (IMHO not so) rare exceptions? -
ARCHIVED WW II Every Night At Dinner
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You have gotten some great advice already. Since you mention your anxiety about the issue could you talk to your doctor and see if you can get a referral to a good child psychologist? Not for your little one but someone to talk to in a couple sessions about how to deal with the issue if the suggestions you have already gotten don't work. Your concerns are... -
ARCHIVED Makeup And Toiletries
ravenwoodglass replied to TLK879's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't use makeup so I am no help there. I use Garneir shampoos, conditioners, face wash and facial products. They label clearly. Dove and Suave also label well. If you don't see gluten ingredients clearly listed they are safe. -
ARCHIVED Finally Have Some Answers...now I Have Even More Questions
ravenwoodglass replied to jcronan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is overwhelming at first and some of us will go through withdrawl that will make us anxious or moody. That does pass. Do start out with mostly whole foods, fruit, veggies, fresh meats and chicken, rice and potatoes. That will help you heal and help keep accidental glutening to a minimum. It is a good idea to drop dairy also for a bit. Most of us can add... -
ARCHIVED Dr. Says I Don't Have The Celiac Genes?
ravenwoodglass replied to Bubba's Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
While I am not good at gene tests interpretation I can say that there are more genes than just DQ2 and DQ8 that are associated with celiac. Those are the most common but there are diagnosed celiacs that don't have either, myself included. -

ARCHIVED Need Celiac Doc For Pregnancy Check Ups!
ravenwoodglass replied to Celiac Ninja's topic in Doctors
If you have no insurance go to your local Social Services office, the criteria for Medicaid is different for women that are pregnant and you may qualify. If nothing else check with your local Planned Parenthood office as they can help you find a doctor or a doctor there can at least check on things. You need to at least have vitamin and mineral panels checked... -
Have you been evaluated to see if you might have picked up any bacterial or parasitic infection or something else while you were there? If your doctor hasn't explored this possibility with blood work and stool testing you should ask the doc to do so.
