  1. It can take up to two weeks to come back. Do keep eating gluten until after all celiac related testing is finished including the endoscopy if you are having one.
  2. Please don't risk the wheat, oat and barley grass stuff. I don't understand why she would give this to someone who is so ill that she has restricted their diet to the extent that she is telling you to restrict. How much coffee do you usually drink? If it is more than one cup in the morning you may need to taper it off a bit to avoid a caffine withdrawl headache...
  3. I just looked them up and yes they do say Gluten Free in big letters on the package. They do have wheat based ones also. They must be a new product. I will be looking for them.
  4. I'm sorry your having such a hard time. Do realize if you go gluten free before testing that you would have to do a lenghty gluten challenge if you decide later you want testing. Being gluten free will not have any effect on testing for any other health issues though. I agree it might not be a bad idea to just get a general checkup. What you are eating...
  5. Because labeling regs are different for drugs than for food. Besides if they clearly labeled the drugs then you wouldn't have to keep taking them to medicate the symptoms that the drugs are causing and look at the money they would lose. Look at all the drugs that used to be script drugs that are now OTC. They allow doctors to just refer us to the drug store...
  6. It did absolutely nothing for me.
  7. Since you noticed it seems to happen after having something with soy you could try dropping soy from you diet and see if it stops happening.
  8. Eliminate the dairy first and see if that helps. Also eliminate carbonated beverages for now. If that doesn't work after a couple weeks then try eliminating some of the other things. Rice is well tolerated by most of us. Be sure you haven't got gluten sneaking in somewhere. The best way to do that is to go with whole unprocessed foods for a bit.
  9. Gee he sounds just like the Naturopathic doctor I saw that I spent hundreds of dollars for visits and 'supplements' with who poisoned me with everything he gave me. Cause 'just a little bit won't hurt'. Tell him you can't take them and ask if he will let you return them. If he won't find a new doctor and tell him why you won't be seeing him anymore.
  10. If it will make you feel better to see something on paper then go ahead with Enterolab. I didn't use them before diagnosis but got tested for everything other than gluten and got the gene tests. I got the gene tests because my biopsy and blood test diagnosed DD had her genes tested and was told she was falsely diagnosed and never was or would be celiac. That...
  11. Can you at least get him to run the antigliadin IGA? I think you are correct that the only IgA he did was the total IgA. He really did a very incomplete test. You may want to see if you can change doctors to one that is a bit more knowledgeable about celiac while you are doing your challenge.
  12. Yes you can be glutened by inhaling gluten. You shouldn't bake with wheat flour for others for this reason and we can't work in bakeries. If you can't get someone else to do the feeding, your DH or other family members or a kid you can hire for a couple bucks from down the street then you do need to take precautions. A mask is helpful and it would be a...
  13. It depends on whether you are reacting to the lactose or the casien. If it is the lactose give it at least a month or so or until your symptoms have resolved well. Then try hard cheeses like cheddar and yogurt and see if you tolerate them. If you have casien intolerance that may not go away with healing. Think positive though cause there are many of us that...
  14. Go with as much whole unprocessed food as you can as that will speed healing. If you live near a Wegmans they mark all their gluten-free stuff with a circle G if not Unilever and Kraft are two mainstream companies that will clearly label gluten and there are others. Do be sure to get a new toaster for just gluten free bread, a new strainer for gluten-free...
  15. Welcome to the board. IMHO the doctor was right and hopefully you will be feeling much better very soon. Do read as much as you can here and ask any questions you need to.
  16. The only issue that I could think of with the Clauseen pickles would be if you are one of the very rare folks that don't handle distilled gluten. You also have to keep in mind that it isn't always the last thing we ate that got us. Gluten reactions can be delayed and that at times makes it very hard to figure out what got us.
  17. You mention going through 'years of agony'. Has your doctor been seeing you during that time? If you have been seen regularly, pehaps diagnosed with IBS, known by us as 'I be stumped', anemia, or other health issues go to your doctor and let him know that you had gotten great relief from the diet. Let him know you are doing a challenge and what your reaction...
  18. That is the brand I go with also. I have never had a CC issue with any of their products.
  19. The antigliadin IGA is specific to celiac. It, however, is not the most sensitive test and has a pretty high rate of false negatives. When it is positive it is positive though. The TTG is the one that can, as I understand it, in some rare occurences, be positive in other disorders.
  20. Not always. You also have to factor in celiacs who show up with a false negative on blood tests, they are usually labeled NCGI. I am a celiac who had years of false negative blood tests so some might consider me NCGI (my doctors consider me diagnosed as celiac) and you can see the damage that was done in my signature.
  21. Well you are having symptoms since you have deficiencies. It does look like they caught it early which is a good thing. Celiac doesn't just affect the gut it can show up in mood and nerve issues, thyroid problems, inflammation of the joints and muscles and much more. IMHO it is better that they catch it early rather than waiting till you get to the point...
  22. I would think that was the case. Also this may not be the case where you are but in the US you can only deduct the difference of the amount of gluten free food over the same food in gluten form and it needs to come to a certain percentage of your total income. You may want to contact a knowledgeable tax person to find out if it is worth your time to even...
  23. Just keep in mind that gene testing is only a part of the picture. Commonly only 2 celiac associated genes are looked for when there may be at least 9 or more. People can have the associated genes and not be celiac and they can be celiac and not have the associated genes. If you do decide to do a challenge make sure you are consuming at least 3 slices of...
  24. Celiac is autoimmune rather than an allergy and doesn't show up on allergy tests. If you really feel that you need a definate diagnosis then you do need to load up on gluten for about 3 months and you may still have false negative on tests. It seems like your body is clearly telling you that gluten is the enemy. Whether you want to consume it for the length...
  25. I had fecal impaction as a child and the poor guy must be in incredible pain. If his antibodies were positive then he needs the diet. The GI doctor may want to do an endoscopy, which does have a chance at a false negative, and if you are going to have that done then you do need to keep him on gluten until that is done. Regardless of the results of the endo...
